Default Becoming Rich by Dave Ramsey??

Have any of you read any books by him or did his "kit"? <-wasn't sure what else to call it lol Anyways I probably bought the kit like 2 or 3 yrs ago but haven't even opened it up. But just lastnight, I decided to read his book "More Than Enough"..so far it is very interesting. I've seen him a million times on tv and I absolutely LOVE his attitude and personality. So have any of you done this or even heard of him??

Don't know the kit you're talking about, but I'm in the process of my 'total money makeover' and have a paid subscription to the mytotalmoneymakeover dot com site. Very motivational! Yes, it's working for me, get to it girl!! Dave's philosophies are fantastic, schools should be teaching what he's preaching. If only I stumbled across him years ago. Thanks for mentioning him, I've kind of fallen off the financial planning wagon, this is the reminder I need to get back to budgeting. If you get into his teachings it'll not only motivate you to get debt free and money saved, but it'll also motivate you to work your ass off and get that money rolling in. Go for it!

yes, What the plan boils down to is.........

Make a budget, know what your expenses are. Then stick to that budget absolutely. The budget needs to be reasonable as well. Sure you could budget for a daily intake of Belgian, chocolate, Champagne, and Russian caviar. Is that a reasonable budget not really.

Every single cent left over builds an emergency fund that can cover all of your expenses 100% for as long as it makes you comfortable. Be that three weeks, three months, or three years.

Once you have an emergency fund, then you tackle debt.

You pay down your debts from highest interest rate to lowest. This can be credit, mortgage, car loans.

The goal is to be debt free, then to have a significant retirement put away.

It requires a lot of will and sacrifice. Thats is why some fail. They can't stay on budget, can't give up expensive vacations, or their mistress.

I listen to his radio show sometimes while driving, and think he gives really good advice. I'd love to hear what his reaction would be if someone were to call in and say, "I'm debt free, thanks to stripping!" lol

Part of this makes sense, the other part doesn't take time/value of money or opportunity cost into account.

It makes as much sense as saying eating well and exercising are the keys to being thin. Well, duh. It's still not going to stop 75% of the country from being fatties. People spend too much, spending less is the solution obviously.

From the description above, this is just common sense, no? Live within your means. Save money.

You'll get reasonably rich but only by the time you retire. That's a good goal, but this won't make you rich in your youth, or even middle age.

The live within your means part does get extreme.

People pay off mortgage in 7-10 years.
