    Default Birth control pill advice

I'm looking for some advice on birth control pills, because I feel like the one I'm on right now isn't the right one for me and my doctor is not helpful at all with it. I was off the pill for about a year and recently decided to get back on it, and since I don't have insurance I went to Planned Parenthood. I told the doctor there that previously I'd be on Loestrin 24 fe for a few years and that I wanted that one, but she insisted on giving me one called Sronyx. I was wary because I've never heard of it, but apparently it's the one they push on people at all county healthcare places. I've been getting a lot of headaches and sleepiness since I started it, and I'm on my period right now and the cramps are killing me. I looked it up online and apparently a lot of people go through these side-effects.

I think I'm going to go back and ask for something different, and I was wondering what ones you ladies have tried that you liked, with minimal side effects? Are there other ones out there like Loestrin, in case she refuses to give me that?

    Thanks!!

Mircette is a low dose one I was on for 5 years. It was the only pill i like 14 years of taking them that I didn't gain alot of weight from and had hardly any side effects. I liked it better than loestrin too.

IUD! I could not recommend them more. I have the plastic one, Mirena, and it is amazing. No matter how low the estrogen was, birth control made me miserable and crazy. Plus I always forgot to take it!

Mirena's waaaay less hormones and directly to the source, I haven't had any negative side effects and I don't have to remember to take a pill all the time. I love it

I've been googling various pills for most of the afternoon, and I feel like I'm not getting anywhere. I think the ultra-low dose ones are too low and it would explain why I'm still spotting and cramping a lot. But all of the "Lo" varieties are expensive, and there's a lot of bad reviews out there for all the generics in terms of side effects. Ortho TriCylen and Loestrin are both about $100 a month, and it seems like Mircette is about $80. The only one I could find that seems semi-ok is TriSprintec.

An IUD sounds good but the idea of something floating around my uterus (I think that's what it does... I'm pretty un-informed about IUDs) kind of weirds me out. I also don't have insurance at the moment to go and get it fitted and things.

It doesn't float, it just sits up in there all snug, you don't feel a thing except for the 30 seconds when they put it in and then it lasts for 5 years There's no getting it fitted, it's a one size fits all kind of deal!

I absolutely LOVE the Nuva Ring! I get it from planned parenthood. You just insert the ring yourself into your vagina and leave it in for 3 weeks and take it out for 1 week to have your period then put a new one in. (you can just leave it in for 4 weeks and put a new one in right after that if you don't want to have a period). I can't feel it at all, my boyfriend feels it during sex but doesn't mind at all. If it does bother you or your partner during sex, you can take it out for up to 3 hours without any problems. I take mine out if I'm going to be doing a cam show with penetration using a toy because there's a risk of the toy pulling it out and that would be embarrassing! But yeah, I haven't had any negative side effects with it.

I liked ortho try-cyclen, the generic of it is Tri-Sprintec but I don't think it's a "lo" one. I'm going to ask my doc if there's a low generic version. My fave one I've been on was probably Loestrin Fe, and I found a generic called Junel Fe that's meant to be pretty good, and it comes in a low dose so there's less side effects, so that's the one I'm going to ask for I think. I've had my period for over a week now and I'm always in a pissy mood, so I need to get in to see her as soon as I can i think, before I drive my bf insane.

My friend was on the Nuva ring, and she liked it until it fell out one day without her noticing and she was having unprotected sex for about two weeks. She didn't realize it had fallen out until she went to take it out/put in a new one. That kinda freaked me out, and I don't like putting my fingers inside myself. The ParaGuard thing sounds really interesting, i"m going to look into that.

I want this but I had an odd ball fear that it would make me not come as strong or even hurt when I come. No ?
( really it's a fear , so reassurance that it doesn't would be awesome )

OP : Can't you specifically ask for the pill you want ? Is it cost ? You are the customer so tell them what pill you want. Call and ask her why she put you on that one and tell her you want your other one back.

I was on TriSprintec for several years. No problems what so ever. It is the generic of Orthro. I filled at Target and it cost me about 14.00 a month. It's a pretty common one with low side effects. Orthro/Trisprin is lo... but, IMO is better than a straight low because it mocks a natural hormonal cycle. The first week is higher, second a bit lower in hormones, the third week is the lowest.... so it is just like what your body does. Also, I am someone that emotionally flips out off the pill, and can really freak out on them, so I have to get just the right one.

Mirena -- I personally tried this and it came out. Same thing with my sister. And you do NOT want that to happen because it can cause untold damage. Note that if you have any inverted uterus issues or they also call it a "tipped" uterus, this is not a good option.

I have Yasmin. I got it because it's supposed to not make you put on weight, give you clear skin and give you a 'sense of wellbeing'.
The last pill I tried made me pms constantly, but this one is so far so good.

^It goes to show how everyones body varies, I hated Yasmin. Instant cellulite and weight gain like never before...well OK not instant but within a few months. Stopped taking it after 6 months and a few months later things have improved. I'm scared to go on any pill at the moment as I really can't face playing trial and error with something new.

I know how you feel, it was really tough for me to decide which one to get because hormonal birth control made me crazy, but I also have really bad cramps and incredibly heavy bleeding which the copper IUD makes much worse.

I ended up deciding to get the mirena though and I'm glad I did, I have incredibly light periods and no crazy's

I am worried that I will see side effects a little further along. I get my pill off the Internet, not through a doctor so I go by what I read online and just try different ones.

Did I mention you can leave the ParaGard in for 10 years?

I have fantastic insurance--mine cost $20 including placement and followup appointment. But even if you don't have great insurance, the cost of the PG over 10 years kind of makes up for a seemingly-expensive device. Consider what you pay for hormonal birth control, calculate what you spend on it per year, then multiply that by ten...odds are the PG is less expensive.
