    Default shoe repair question :(

So I just recently ordered a pair of heels off ebay, and when I got them I noticed that the where the platform and the part where your foot goes (insole?) seemed to be coming apart... I wore them at work last night for less than an hour, and noticed it getting worse... they are definitely coming apart.
Normally I would just try and get my money back and buy new ones, but I'm pretty sure this particular style has been discontinued. I've never seen them for sale anywhere and was super excited when I saw them in my size on ebay.

I LOVE THEM and want to fix them, and I was hoping someone would have advice on how to best do that.
They are pretty much just like the shoe in the picture (and I marked where they are coming apart) but instead of being clear clear they are a like a bright pink clear and they glow pink in under the blacklight (both the platform/heel and the strap).

I was thinking of using Gorilla Glue, but wasn't sure if it is possible to do that without it dripping down the inside. Maybe if I'm really careful? Or would a shoe repair place be able to do anything? I did a search and didn't find anything super helpful, but I did see some shoe repair place horror stories...

That is do-able. Use the blue painters tape from the painting section (house paint) to cover any area you do not want glue to stick. In really difficult to reach areas use a light coat of Vaseline. The glue won't stick to those areas and can be wiped off. Clean any areas you do want to stick together, with rubbing alcohol removing all oils and solvents.

Better than gorilla glue would be a two part epoxy. Comes in two tubes, squeeze out on to a paper plate, equal amounts from tube one and two. Mix together with a Popsicle stick.

Wedge open the crack where the two shoe parts are separating with Popsicle sticks temporarily. This will keep it open, so you can get the epoxy or glue deep inside, and make a better bond.

After the glue is in, remove the wedges. You my need to clamp the parts together. String tied tight, a tourniquets type knot wound tight, stood up right with weight on them, a commercial clamp.

Just can not move around once it is setting up.

Better to use 10 minute or 30 minute setting glue versus instant bond stuff. You want to be sure the pieces line up before the glue sticks them forever.

^ My big concern is the glue dripping down the platform on the inside, where I can't tape it off or will be able to get to afterwards (I can't get to it now really, it's not that broken, only just starting to come apart). I'm thinking if I work with the shoe upside down this won't be an issue...

A quick question about the epoxy... I have never used anything like that, but I read that it dries really stiff. I'm wondering if that will be problematic because I'm going to be wearing these and moving around, and even though they don't need to move THAT much I'm worried if the hold is too stiff the bond will just break again...

Thank you for all the info, that was very very helpful!

Exactly. With the shoe upside down as it dries any adhesive would run with gravity to where you want it.

Don’t know. I think the shoe would be more likely to break than the epoxy. You may see it named as two part resin too. Some epoxies are clear, some come in colors, some is very thin like water, and some are almost a paste when mixed.

BTW this is a good way to make custom shoes out of cheap hollow platforms. Separating the platform from the rest of the heel, the inside can be painted; or stuff like dice, smurf dolls, glitter, candy, etc inserted . Then reattach carefully with epoxy.

Super glue. Though I've never had shoes break in that particular place I have broken them just about everywhere else and always keep superglue in my locker now. Dries quick, clear, and holds together. Trust me, I have broken and fixed and broken and fixed (repeat x1000) nearly every pair of stripper shoes I've had.

I feel for you...I've had this happen on plenty of my clear platforms...I model high heels and the wear and tear is probably the same as dancing overall. This problem is REALLY difficult to fix without a disaster, because the inner sock is so thin...and the base is hollow, so the risk of glue dripping down is very high. When they are manufactured, they are stuck with a thin impact adhesive, and then clamped in lasting machines that put massive pressure on them to stick.

In all honesty, this is what I would do:

    1) Contact the seller and see if they will replace them with another pair...or find them somewhere else as a back up.

    2) If you want to repair them - get a professional repair shop to do it.

    3) If the repair shop screws up...they are duty bound to replace them...and you can point them in the direction of your seller...or, you can have them refund you the cost of a replacement.

Either way....get a professional to do the repair.

(PS: Regarding replacements - from the shape of the spike heel they look like older 'Pleasers', and you should be able to find them online at any good heel store. I can give you some links if you want).

Contacting the seller is a good idea. I was going to anyway to request a partial refund but maybe they can replace them for me...

But if they can't I think I might be SOL. Honestly I've looked all over the internet for these and I can't find them anywhere. I even searched through completed ebay listings and the only one there was the one I bought. That's why I'm afraid of taking them somewhere. The money isn't an issue, I just don't know if I'd be able to find a replacement. But I think I will ask around at one of the clubs I work as it's in a city with lots of stripclubs. Maybe someone can point me in the direction of a place with stripper-heel experience.

The picture I posted is actually of a pair of Pleasers... I just wanted to make a pic real quick of where they are breaking and don't have a picture of the actual heel at that angle. The brand of the shoes I have is Jante, and like I said I can't find them anywhere. But I would appreciate it if you could share those links with me, can't hurt to keep looking!

'Jante' heels ARE hard to find now....but I think that I know a couple of places that might be of help. Hang in there and I'll PM you in a day or so....

I'm looking for a clear slide, with a totally clear and 'see-thru' base.....yes..?

Yes, they are clear but are pink, if that makes any sense. Thank you for your help.

It makes total sense. If I can't find 'Jante'....do you want any alternatives to look at if the seller refunds your money...?

I had this happen to me a while back. Same shoes as in the picture but a higher heel.
Take them to a repair shop and they can fix you right up.

I use Shoe Goo for mine. Walmart has it for $5. It's kinda tacky, so it doesn't drip when you apply it. Tightly tie a shoelace around the area after glueing.

Well....sadly I haven't had any luck finding more 'Jante's', however I have several sources of really nice, all-clear 'Pleaser's'....(some with pink inner socks...!) I'll post them up later today.

Repair shop!!! Some of these places work miracles. If you live in a place where Yelp is useful, go to the place with the best reviews.

Honestly, don't bother fucking around with epoxy on your own... just send your shoesies to the repair place, and get some rest in the meantime to be fresh for your next shift. It's the financially responsible thing to do. :-)
