Angry Music at my club is TOO LOUD!

Im not sure if this has been covered or not but I just have sort of a rant.

I started working at this new club. The money is good and consistent but my only complaint is that they play the music WAY too loud. It makes it hard to sound sexy when I am talking to customers because I always have to talk above the music so they can hear me. Also I find that I am suffering minor hearing loss as well, lol.

The loudest parts of the club are around the stage and near the lap dance room (which is where most of the spenders are located). Does anyone else have this problem, or have a solution as to how to get around it?

Thanks- not sure they are discrete enough for work!
The ones I heard about cut out backgroung noise and still allow you to have a conversation with the person speaking to you.

One dancer told me she buys earplugs and cuts them in half so they're less visible.

Earplugs are a good idea. Who is REALLY listening to what the customer is saying anyways. Most times all I hear is blah blah blah "uh huh" bla bla bla "really" blah blah "that's so interesting!". So ya If I could find ones discreet enough that is a definite option! Thanks

just use it as an excuse to get up really close and say dirty things in their ear then look them in the eye, smile and make a gesture towards the lap rooms. Body language speaks volumes

^ This is most club. I haven't worked in many that I didn't have to scream over the music all night. It seems it starts out fine and then the djs crank it up after a few hours( because mot djs are hard of hearing). Alot of times they do this to create are more party, busier atmosphere. I find I lose my voice after a few days and it tires me out yelling every damn night maybe I'll try the earplugs(even though I hate the feeling of things in my ears).

Cripes that would drive me nuts! I went to a cheapie little fashion store I shop at & at like 11am the music was CRANKED UP (w/barely anyone shopping in the store at the time!) I even asked one of the sales ladies to turn it down a bit, & she's like no, everyone likes it this way!
I guess it's not an option to ask about turning it down?

I use Hearos when I go to clubs that are loud.

    http://www.hearos.com/ear-plug-hearos

They're skin colored and you can cut them down so they're not sticking out.

Can you keep your ears covered with your hair so nobody can see if you're wearing ear plugs?

That's a club-by-club problem. Not all of them are like that. I've worked at clubs that owners want so loud you can't hear yourself talk. Others where you can almost hear people talking across the room.

Bottom line is that if it's all the DJ's across the board, find another club unless you make a ton of money there. Money-to-bullshit ratio in full effect (the more money you make the more bullshit you can tolerate).

Typically on the weekends EVERY club will be louder, week day nights it'll be reasonable, and during the day it will be a very comfortable volume. A lot of times the volume actually affects the energy on the floor. Other times it's just too damn loud regardless.

Sometimes the managers don't have a choice, but other times they don't have a clue

LOL at the Money to Bullshit ratio, that is so true.
I make good money at this club i'm at and honestly I don't mind the loud music when i'm doing lapdances or when I am on stage. It's just the talking loudly over the music that bothers me, it feels unsexy. I've politely asked the DJ to turn it down and he declined. He said people at this club like the loud music, which I can understand because it is located downtown and does have a party atmosphere.

Time to get myself a pair of those ear plugs I guess!

What club is it ? (I work in Ont too... @ BR)

Anyway, Ive worked from dives to the higher end clubs. I have noticed I make more money when the music is louder. Customers talk to each other less, then they have no choice but to watch girls, which makes me get dances! If you're into talking with the custy.. sit on their lap and talk to their ear.. I have to do that if the client wants to chit-chat. At best, I'd go with ear plugs, cut in half and your hair will cover your ears.

    Solid Gold in London.
It never used to be bad until they put in a new stereo system a short while ago. (It was the first club I ever worked at & I recently returned to find the club WAY louder).
I have been to BR as well and found it to be very loud too!
    Have u worked at Solids?

I would be careful if you work around loud music. I have a relative who used to go to loads of gigs when he was younger and now he suffers from Tinitus, which is constant ringing in the ears and can't hear very well. He was told it was probably because of the damage caused by the loud noises when he was younger but theres no way to repair it.

I love going to night clubs but I have since become more aware of just how loud music is played. Nothing is worth risking your health for no matter how much you get paid!

^I do notice that some nights after working 2nights in a row I come home and my ears are ringing!!! But then it goes away by bedtime. I also notice that sometimes it's hard to hear what ppl are saying the day after work.

I switched back to my old club last night where they play the music a lot quieter.

That sounds like a smart move. It's not worth damaging your hearing, no matter how good a club is.

Use this as a selling point.
Especially if your VIP area or the actual LD rooms are quieter.
I used to work at a painfully loud club... and I used to sell VIP's to customers who just wanted a quiet place to chat all the time.

The earplugs you want are Etymotics. They are designed to only filter a range of frequencies and protect your hearing. Foam earplugs like the hearos muffle everything and get disgusting quick. Not trying to be insulting to the person who suggested them, but seriously try the Etymotics, they make the hearos sound like garbage.

Now that thats been said, its been proven that people drink more and interact less when the music is louder, and they arent "killing business" by having the music loud, they are increasing the drink average per person. They may be killing your business of selling dances, but to be blunt, most clubs dont really give a shit if you are making money as long as they are making money at the bar and off house fees.

I work for tips too and I know how irritating it can be for it to be too loud, but when management says to crank it up thats exactly what I do.

I wear plugs if I go to a club. You can just take one out if you need to understand what someone is saying. That doesn't happen very often in a club. Just smile a lot. Besides that, why care if anyone knows you are wearing them?

Music is too loud everywhere, even the gas station where I fuel up the trucks! It is even loud when there is not a wine tasting. So much for selling drinks.
