Default I need a computer tech!

I have a dell built for gaming, I used to cam on it , and it was POWERFUL! But then something weird happened, and it went into sleep mode , and i turned it off, and it hasnt been back on since... The light stays amber color, and the fans are all on...
Anywho, i was wondering if i could test a mobo from another computer, a acer.... my husbands , just to see if thats what it is? I ordered a brand new cam , and really dont want to use it on the HP laptop... lol

It won't turn back on at all ? Have you checked the power supply to eliminate PCU Fail, does it make any beeps when you try starting it up / closing it down , does the fan kick in like normal or not at all now ?

    What's the model ?

Open it up and re-seat all the cables and cards and try again. Doesn't sound like a power issue as it's powering up and posting.

More than likely it's the GFX card or RAM if a re-seat doesn't sort you out.

You can try switching out the planar but you need to make sure it's compatible with your CPU etc first, otherwise you'd be disassembling your system for nothing, heh.

How many beeps are you getting when it posts? And are they long/short?

Its the main beep that you get when you first power it up...
I considered myself a computer genius untill this...
I bet its the Mobo... Uhgg. I was hoping it was something simple like
    the power supply...
Ive reseated everything.. no change, it all happened after i acedently unplugged it from
    the wall one day.

Unplug it from the wall AND remove the battery if its a laptop, wait 1-2 mins, reconnect and try again.

That's the easy fix, not likely to help but worth a try just in case.

The Ram is a possibility , try booting up with each piece removed in turn - Your mother board assumption may well be correct , the problem you're experiencing is not uncommon with dels , but unfortunately not always an effect of the same cause. If all the wiring is good, the flashing light is most likely a motherboard problem if the power is consistent.

What's the model ? Del actually had a recall with one of their models, with a mother board fault resulting in similar problem .

I'm sorry that I don't really have anything helpful to add. But I just wanted to let you ladies know that anytime you have to go without your computer (and believe me...it SUCKS!), I'd recommend checking out Rent-A-Center. I used them once last year after my son had messed up my laptop's screen. Their cheapest renting option was $65 for two-week rental of a BRAND NEW Toshiba laptop with Windows 7. ALSO, they even provide free delivery of your rental item, and they even offer free pickup of the item on the day that it's due.

When you sign the agreement to rent items, you just give them your info and provide them with a few references (I don't even know if they called any of my references).

Buffy, I hope that you get your computer issue resolved soon!

The next easiest step would be to check and see if it's the hard drive that has crashed. Since you have another computer pull the hard drive out of both and hook the good hard drive up, boot and see if it goes. If not, move on to the harder things like the mobo cpu or memory.
