Default "found out" about your cam job?!

Anyone had this happen to them or know of anyone who was found out doing cam work?

I live in a small town, in UK and I often wonder about this - what the mums at the school gates would say, how it would affect my friendships etc ...

This is one of the reasons I don't sell clips or pics at the moment - how likely is it to be "caught" I am not ashamed of what I do, i earn money to provide for my family, however I worry that if I got found out it would have a negative impact on my children who are 9 and 7 ....

    Any thoughts ??? XXXXXXXX

When I first started webcamming I was terrified about being discovered. I used to list myself in a different region so that I wouldnt show up in a local search.

I wore makeup so thick that even *I* had trouble recognising myself lol... I also never used to show my face fully either.

I guess you could try these out and maybe invest in a wig too?

I don't mind so much about showing my face on Cam - it's more being banded over the Internet on sites other than the ones I am registered to - if I sell videos / pics .. But I know all of these things earn you extra money !!! Catch 22 .....

Just wondered what other peoples reactions are to your job as a Cam Girl ? Xxxx

I tell pretty much everyone what I do and haven't had any negative reactions so far. Most people are like "Wow... I wish I had the balls to do something like that" lol.

In fact it's so appealing that my mother made me set her up an account somewhere after I told her.. and now she's on DP. It was Handholding Hell for the first month or so but she's on her own now. /sigh they grow up so fast

This is the main reason I do not tell everyone.

Wearing a wig and looking nothing like myself on cam is one way I protect my family.

It's easy to say how you don't mind telling everyone but it can and does affect kids when something like that gets out because you have to face the fact that most of the world is stupidly repressed about anything concerning sex. You really can not trust most people and I feel it's none of their business so why would I want to put my family at risk?

I won't tell anyone. I don't have kids or things like that to worry about. However, my "vanilla job" may fire me if they found out :s ... let's hope they don't. It's a huge corporation ... and I love my job ... so I am hoping nothing happens! However, my theory is, IF they find out, then I should be a good enough camgirl to make it on my own without that other job. Let's hope it works out that way.

But anyway, my boyfriend knows, I tell my friends and family about my vanilla job, so that works. Umm, if my parents found out, they'd hate it for sure, but like I don't rely on them anymore so it's not a big deal, right? I just hope they wouldn't disown me or anything. But if they are like that ... well ... things happen. I have a feeling most of my friends would be cool with it BUT I don't want to risk it, or have the "wrong" person find out.

What I've noticed is... in regards to dancing or camming, the people I thought would be bothered by it were NOT bothered by it at all... and the people I thought would never be bothered by it, were REALLY bothered by it. Most are indifferent.

But then again, I don't care if I get found out. I feel like you have just as big of a risk of being found out with a disguise on unless you naturally look really generic (baby face, etc.) Even if I wore a disguise, you could still tell it was me.

I've been reading so much here, and if I could start caming completely anonymously I'd sign up tonight. I go to school full time and work 30 hours a week and it's stressing me out having so much to deal with. The money is so so tempting and part of me wants to take advantage of my looks/youth while this industry is still lucrative. It just the idea of being secretly recorded and having those cam videos on the internet forever that's giving me pause. I could handle it if my friends and even family knew but I'd sure rather they never ever found out. I've thought of using wigs, makeup, filming (most of the time) from just the nose down ect.

I'm glad I stumbled onto this forum because I had no idea it was so common or even possible for guys to film you during cam sessions. Logically it makes sense that they would/could but it's not something I think every girl is automatically aware of when they sign to do this.

lol @ Krystle can't believe you told your mum and you set her an account up! I would cringe if any of my family found out what I do let alone help them get into it! Last thing I would want was to be teaching my mum how to perform on webcam

tara1245 that was also my concern at first (and still is to a certain extent) that somebody would record me performing and it ending up on a different site. But the longer you do this the more you realise that it's just a numbers game. There are thousands of cam sites and countless more performers online that the chances of someone you know recognising you is pretty unlikely. Plus I block out the country I live in just in case.

It's funny, I only joint this forum yday and being around so many like minded people makes me forget what I was so afraid of getting started in the first place. Of course the real world can be a little bit more narrow minded than most people on here.

^ same here. I have told the people who are closest to me, and they have accepted it. If aquaintences find out I could really care less.

The only way to avoid this risk, is to not take it and not get into webcamming. You can disguise yourself, not show your face but and you could still be found out, even by the person you least expect (like the mums outside of schoolgates)

I really could care less wether these sites record me for not. I agreed to this when i signed up, but the fact of the matter is, at least on streamate...we NEVER know when we are being RECORDED. So you can hide your face in free chat but be recorded showing your face and STILL have your face plastered all over the net in recordings after trying to protect yourself. I am not an expert but I believe it would be this way on a majority of sites???

What I think about is the fact that my family does know.....but god knows how they would really REACT if they did see one of my recordings out there. This could change the way they feel entirely. Although my family knows, friends know, I would never pull up my homemade porn collection for them, and I would not want anyone to pull it up in their own searches.

Wigs and makeup wouldn't make a bit of difference for me since I've got tattoos on my body that people who know me would recognize. I freaked out about the possibility of people recording me and putting me all over the web, but i had to sit myself down and really weigh out the pros and cons of this business. The pros of "I really love doing this and have always wanted to get into the adult industry" far outweighed the cons of "some douchebags are gonna do some dumb shit".

I told my dad because I knew he would be cool with it, he's actually quite proud of me that I'm using my looks and talent to my benefit and getting paid for it. He just had to make sure that he wasn't going to be accidentally bumping into me while cruising for porn lol. My mom thinks I'm a PSO which she's cool with and is considering doing herself but if she knew I was a webcam model she would be upset, mostly because she doesn't want it to come back to haunt me and badly affect me if others find out. A few of my friends from school know as well and they're like "you go girl!" I really have to hide it from my boyfriend's family though because they're pretty dang conservative. Oh, and of course my boyfriend knows and he's very supportive.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go for it. I do need look for a one bedroom apt bc I would more comfortable doing this living alone rather than w/roommates. It's just that there is a possibility of being found out, however I think it's incredibly unlikely. If it happened it wouldn't wreck my life or anything. I'd be upset but I could handle it.

That's not really the case. You can block states/cities on most cam sites, but it doesn't always work. Also, there are easy IP masking sites & software (some men even use this to hide all evidence of looking at porn from wives, etc.) that bypass that block system altogether.

Also, these cam sites (especially Streamate) record your private shows and distribute them all over the internet, as well as to tube sites. This is done for free, randomly, and without your knowledge. You consent to this when you send in your signed paperwork that you must turn in to even get your account activated. You cannot opt out of it.

Combine that with tons of guys who record your shows and post them all over the internet on free porn tube sites, as well as on pirating torrent sites (and keep in mind they probably won't put your name in the title so you'll never find these except for by random chance), and odds are that you will be outed.

In addition, you may not know if someone has found you or not because they probably won't tell you. After all, its awkward to tell someone they've "discovered" them, and most men don't want it to be known that they were looking at porn in the first place. All it takes is one person to discover you and run their mouth, and then your whole family, friends, coworkers, everyone will know. A friend's dad, a teacher, an ex-coworker, a cousin, a younger brother's friend, a distant relative, an old schoolmate... The stories I've heard of how women have gotten "discovered" are completely random and ridiculous.

If you get into this industry, you should believe the phrase: its not IF you will be discovered, but WHEN. So my advice is not to get into this industry unless you're okay with being outed (which you said is fine), and unless you plan to be self-employed forever or work in a really open-minded job field forever.

    Just saying.

This is so true. Yes our work can be very lucrative but the downside can be devasting.

Like GlamourRouge said; if you want to work in this industry then you must be prepared for the likely consequences... one of them being outed.

Someone told me he was from my city last night in free chat, so of course, I was thinking Oh no. Is he getting so specific about where he's from because he recognizes me? I'm pretty sure on the outside I just kept smiling and didn't betray myself.

I don't really care, and I was more afraid that he was going to tell the rest of the room where I'm from, but still it was sort of weird. I mean, I tell people straight up about camming, but it would just be weird if it were some random guy.

Try blocking the city you work in. I know you may not be all that bothered and think it's potentially more customers, but it will stop this from happening in future and allow you to perform a little more at ease knowing that you are less likely bumping into someone in the street that recognises you! I know I sleep a little better at night because of that.

Ahhh on this particular site, I can only block my state, which would include NYC.

Banning the entire market of NYC is just out of the question.

I am, however, planning on focusing less on this particular site though, after sticking it out through my first month.

That has happened to several times, and I have my entire state blocked. Its really easy to get around that "block"...

Hmm, yeah, if I can't do this anonymously that *is* a huge downside for me. I don't think there's anything wrong with doing this and if people found out about and judged me for it I'd just think they were idiots. That's how I feel about it w/regards to my personal life though. I'm more concerned about how I would deal with it in a future work environment.

So, the guy I was talking about came back tonight and took me for a private, and well, he had a cam, but I didn't exactly get to see his face.

Now I'm pretty much going to be thinking he's every guy who checks me out or gives me an odd look until I forget...and then I'm going to hear my camming name called out in a public place.

Its such a shame that w e have to worry about this. I could swear we're living in 2011 lol. Get with the times people. We're not hurting anyone....oh wait....we're "breaking families apart." Please go feed your bullshit to someone as simple minded as you are. I was disappointed by how many of my friends and family were literally disgusted with me. A lot of them to this day dont look at me the same. Its like whatever to me but it still hurts to think people that you though loved you regardless of what and who you are dont feel that way. You find out who your real friends are that's for sure.

Anyways enough negative Nancy talk. Make sure you are very sure of yourself with whatever decision you make. Its a great job and I wouldnt trade it for anything!

OP the decision to not sell content is a good idea, about 1/5 (probably less) of DMCA take down notices I've sent were of my live cam being recorded. And I check a bunch of tube sites and forums regularly. Selling clips is selling an already neatly prepackaged transmittable file to trade, upload, forward, etc. Recording a cam takes a bit more work for the average wanker. That decision doesn't eliminate the risk, but it can reduce it.
