I heard something about high-lift blond, is there a way to bleach your brunette hair (fine hair) blond without damaging it? You would think they would have a way to bleach your hair with a laser or intense pulsed light by now.. or something?

At this time, no. What I choose to do is the top third of my hair though, leaving the underneath alone.
Proper high-lifts do about the same level of damage as PROPERLY bleaching your hair. Improper high-lifts do the same level of damage as improperly bleaching your hair.
Which is to say there will always be SOME level of damage from chemically treating your hair... how much depends on whether or not the person doing it knows what they're doing.
There is always damage when you dye your hair. Go only 2 levels higher of your shade if you're doing your whole head.. if you want to go lighter, I'd suggest highlights by a professional. Either way little hair dye or too much whether its one strand or the whole head there is still some form of damage.

my hair is dark choclate brown, i bleach my hair platinum blonde and do the roots every 3 weeks. my hair is completely healthy and in the same condition as when my hair wasn't chemically treated.
i use quick blue bleach and 20 volume developer (both from sally's). any higher volume peroxide and your hair will fall out. I leave it in for about 40-45 mins. I do get my hair to a white, platinum color. I have my bf apply the bleach for it
Some tips for better success:
1. don't do it on freshly washed hair. your hair has less natural oils that protect your hair when you bleach it.
2. make sure you don't have any products in it when you bleach it, which may be hard if you aren't doing it on freshly washed hair. i bleach my hair after not washing it for 2-3 days. chemicals in mouse/hairspray/etc may combine funny with the bleach and make it stronger or more damaging.
i'll post my before and after pix of brown to blonde hair... THAT I DO 100% AT HOME... i'll edit the post if i think of any other good tips...

Thank you for the great responses!
Has anyone noticed their revenue went up when they went blond?
I always use Sally Beauty Supply products but I have never bleached my hair before. I normally use the Clairol 5NN Lightest Rich Neutral Brown and my hair is actually a little darker than that O_o The lady at the shop likes to tell me that color won't remove color but I think it does to a degree. I have a whole bunch of quick blue, I didn't realize I was stocking up on it but I have a drawer full. And I use 20 developer so maybe I should give it a shot but trying to do the roots seems like a nightmare to me.

for me it did because half the time i'm the only blonde at my club. i dont stand out as much as brunette.
here's my favorite youtube video on how to do your roots, you have to be logged in to view it though...

When I went blonde it made me the only blonde in my club. It's not the case anymore but I do get customers sometimes just for the colour of my hair.
Take the other girls advice and just be carfull. 4 years ago I did it wrong and had to re bleach it. This resulted in extreme damage and I had to chop my 22" locks off. Once you blech the hair don't re bleach it, only do the roots and you should be fine.
Like others have said, just be careful. I did my own hair blonde for 2 years, and by the end of it, it was just a hot mess. Even when I dyed it back to dark brown, it was so fried that it wouldn't look good until I chopped a bunch off. Now I want to go back to blonde but can't do it unless I chop even more off.Only touch-up the roots after they've grown out enough and apply the touch-up carefully to avoid overlap... both things I didn't really care enough to do properly. Honestly, if you don't have the patience to do it right every time (like me) then the money for a good colorist may be worth it. I'd rather spend more than have to chop my hair off again next time.

If u r worried about damaged hair just get a human hair or human hair mix wig. They make some nice ones that are cute and realistic looking with long hair. U can get a good one off ebay for $60. Shops I recommend are jennys hairsense and another one... ill edit when I remember the name. Get the look without the mes the time or the risk.

What she said exactly! The night before I slather on coconut oil. Also I don't leave mine on for 40 minutes. Check it every 10. Depending on your hair and your body temp as well as the actual temp....processing time will vary!
And see my post in the "overbleached" thread about keratin treatments. Good luck.

i started highlighting my hair a few years ago, and it has mostly been a success. however, one time i went too long without touching up and got a little overaggressive. the damage was pretty bad. luckily, my hair grew a couple inches before it started to break off. it's only the front and the top of my part. at this point, the hair is past my chin and the lower inches are still damaged. some of the longer hairs that didn't break off are weak too. i'm thinking of cutting bangs in front, but the other damage is probably gonna stick around.
but i really want to go lighter. obviously, i want to get a professional to do it. can they? am i just totally fucked?
btw...i didn't think that going lighter helped with my money. it did make it easier for me to get hired, and when i got fat i didn't get put on the fat list. i like how i look with lighter hair more. i think it looks better with my skintone. but i wouldn't say it helped my income at all. men like brunettes too. maybe if i go light blonde, it'll make a difference.
-love everyone but keep them far from your soul-
Im a hairdresser-the high lift series are for if your hair is already a lighter colour to begin with.
As long as you get your hair professionally done in STAGES (key word) it will be fine ie start with highlights and continue adding more untill you can just straight up do bleach and tone root retouches. You will also need to 1-lay off hot tools, make sure your not constantly using daily and when you do use a heat protectant and 2-invest in a good professional deep conditioning product...do treatments on yourself every 2 weeks ( put the cond on, put a plastic cap over and use a blow dryer over top for 5 minutes)
You have beautiful hair! My hair is a little bit longer than yours, about the same color, and somewhat prone to dryness and I've been hesitant to go blonde because I had this fear it would all break off.
My main question: what in the world do you do to keep it in such perfect condition? Products, washing schedule, silk pillowcase(?), etc

I'm lucky because I don't really get greasy roots (never have) so I only wash my hair twice a week. Once every 2 weeks or so (so every 4 or 5 washes) I use this keratin treatment by aphogee, its only like 8 bucks and it completely repairs my hair. I only use heat products and hair products like hairspray when I work (2 to 3 x a week) and I just sleep on a regular pillow case.
I'm lucky, I have naturally healthy hair, which is why I think I can bleach it with basically no damage. I went to a hairdresser a few months ago for a trim and she couldn't believe how healthy my hair is.
