    Default Not allowed on stage

So my manager told me I cant go on stage or work weekends until I lose weight. Im losing out on alot of money this way and Im still paying the same house fees as other dancers.

Are managers allowed to tell a dancer she cant go on stage beacuse of her appearance i.e. weight? Or can they forbid her from working the good nights? I know this goes on, but is it LEGAL? I know for a fact that clubs cant take money out of money made from lap dances.

i'm honestly in shock. its one of those things that doesn't seem like it should be allowed but probably happens often. if i were you i'd try to find another club. it's certainly not right for you to have to pay out the same if your being told not to dance on stage (which is normally required correct?)

Yes, they can. I was pulled off stage because the owner prob would have fired me if he spotted me & the GM does not wanna lose me (so it was his way of saving my ass. I am by no means skinny, but I ain't big or fat either. My measurements are 38 -30 -40 (latins, blacks & arabs love me, so do older blue coller guys), but the owner wants skinny minnys. This shit happens (I actually don't mind missing stage anymore), although I do get to work whatever days I want.

This is just the way the industry works -sux, but oh well.

It's a strip club. You're hired for your looks.
If you gain weight... they can fire you/limit your shifts/not let you on stage. Just like they can fire you for dying your hair a stupid color, or shaving your head, or piercing something they don't like, or getting a giant tattoo, or dancing like a fool.

Whether or not it's legal... doesn't matte much for the time being. You can try and take legal actions against them... but for the years your ongoing lawsuit makes... if you're still too fat to dance... you're still not going to have a job/have to work less desirable shifts.

I would not fuss to them about it. You dont want to give them a reason to get rid of you.

A girlfriend of mine was fired over her weight. She's not even big...but she's had 4 kids and isn't exactly toned either. She was also rejected by a few other clubs. Yes, it's sad, but not worth fighting over. There are plenty of clubs that appreciate a variety of women and will welcome you. These are also the clubs that tend to be more laid back and you'd likely be happier there anyway. Sorry this happened to you, hon. it's bad enough when you get it from customers....then management just has to chime in too

I disagree....when I worked at one of my all time favorite clubs, there were several bigger girls, one of which had purple hair and every part of her face pierced. Hell, I had rainbow hair for a minute.

    You disagree with what?
Management can fire you for whatever the fuck they care to fire you for. I provided a list of random examples. I never said "these are all things that will get you fired." Sooo. Unless you're disagreeing with the fact that management can fire you for a variety of reasons (which would just be stupid)... I don't really see what there is to disagree with.
Even if that's what you ARE disagreeing with... I don't see where you having rainbow hair or knowing a purple-haired fat girl with a disgusting number of piercings is related.

I think this depends entirely on the club and what type of customer they cater too. A lot of clubs don't have a market for bigger girls and/or girls with tattoos and/or girls with shaved heads etc. In these cases good management will cater not to the taste of every possible customer that ever existed for every club out there...they will cater to the customer they actually get or the type of customer they are trying to attract.

What I was saying is it's not typical to get fired for gaining weight, unless you work in a VERY upscale club. Can they fire you? Yes. Will it happen? Only if they're douchebags. Your post seemed very nonchalant, as if all dancers are counting every calorie out of fear of unemployment and getting fired for weight gain isn't surprising at all.

Not to mention, "if you're too fat to dance." Really? Just going by her measurements, she is no where NEAR the size of some of the dancers I've seen, including one I work with now. So yeah, I don't see a whole lot of empathetic yet honest advice, so, I disagree.

And if I read it wrong, or misinterpreted your intention, geez, no need to get so uptight about it. I said "I disagree," not "well, if you WERE implying this, that would be stupid."....you know, like you just did to me.

Anyway I'm not going to take over this thread.

...If you work in an appearance based industry... shouldn't you be concerned about your weight?
Shouldn't you care enough to keep trim and maximize your income?

And I've worked at a good number of mediocre clubs that still fired girls/restricted girls shifts if they've gained weight.
I'd say out of 20 clubs I've worked at... 15 or more of them did this. So I'd say it's pretty common.

Not to mention, "if you're too fat to dance." Really? Just going by her measurements, she is no where NEAR the size of some of the dancers I've seen, including one I work with now. So yeah, I don't see a whole lot of empathetic yet honest advice, so, I disagree.
vixenluv, the person who posted this thread, didn't post her measurements. That was someone else.
All I have to go by is that she's big enough to not be allowed to work the shifts she wants now. ...which makes her too fat to dance the shifts she wants at the club she works at.
Again. I'm not sure what you're disagreeing with. Is it my lack of empathetic advice? She didn't ask for advice, she asked if it was legal for clubs to do what hers is doing and are they allowed to do it. To which I replied honestly.

And if I read it wrong, or misinterpreted your intention, geez, no need to get so uptight about it. I said "I disagree," not "well, if you WERE implying this, that would be stupid."....you know, like you just did to me.
I wasn't being uptight about anything.
And just as there's no need for me to be 'uptight' there's no need for me to be overly polite to someone who can't even bother to read what's been posted before replying to it. ...you know, like you just did.

Yes they can and do this. Years ago I worked at a midlevel club and had gained weight the three weeks I was off. Not much, about 5 pounds, but they told me to lose the weight but stay off the stage. I lost the weight in a week and a half, and was back to stage dancing. I've known many dancers fired for gaining.

Not to change the subject, but I noticed you worked at the Admiral and I experienced something like you mentioned there. I auditioned during the amateur night, the one manager (an older guy I believe)wanted to hire me but turns out the owner was there the night I auditioned and thought I was too fat at 5'7 and 125 pounds. The one manager even apologized for this but said the owner likes thin and I noticed all the girls on stage were very thin, like size 4 and under. He told me to come back after I lost 10 pounds but I went to another club instead. I kind of felt humiliated that the owner thought I was fat.

I have a good friend who is older, 36 or so, but you would never know it by looking at her, she's looks about 29 or 30. The girl has the most amazing boobs and butt. She isn't skinny, and maybe a little bigger, but she's blonde haired, big boobed, curvaceous and GORGEOUS. She looks like Stiffler's mom from Amercan Pie. I worked with her at the first club I worked at (A rat hole I left after the first two weeks.) and she danced on stage there, but when she wanted to come work at the club I work at now (A nice upscale gentleman's club.) They told her she'd have to waitress and couldn't dance on stage, the customers would have to buy her off the floor for 75 bucks. The same thing happened at her other club. I don't get it, when she was dancing you couldn't take your eyes OFF OF HER. She is sexy, and gorgeous, and just because she isn't a size 5, they won't let her dance. It's ridiculous! Men like women of all sizes. Some may prefer the tiny girls, and some prefer girls who are curvier. It seems to me they are losing money by pigeon holing "Beauty" or " Sexiness" into one catagory!

THIS. I will most definitely get reamed for this but...
I'm tired of hearing girls whine and cry about not getting hired here or getting fired there for being overweight, not looking ideal or otherwise letting herself go.

I work out, take care of my hair, nails, skin, spend time and money on make up, perfume, etc and so on so when I see a girl jump on stage with her hair thrown up on her head, no makeup and a pouch it irritates me to NO END!

If anyone could be a brilliant investor and make millions then the pretty girls wouldn't be strippers!

If you want to keep your job then you must do your job and part of being a dancer is keeping up on your looks. And if you are at your ideal weight but at a club that likes the "skinnies" it's prob time to move on and find a club where you can do better.

If you like your club and you do well, I'd say your lucky to just be pulled off stage and not fired. The industry is saturated with girls just waiting to take your place. Take it as constructive advice, tone up and get back in there girl!!

Yes, this happens. At the place I stripped most often in 2010, it was brutal. Girls would just be told to go home or that they couldn't go on stage. To be honest, I was told one day that I wasn't allowed on stage .... and then the manager changed her mind and put me up there the next day. It's a super weird place though that plays mind games with the dancers ect.

I've often seen heavier girls kept off stage at clubs. However, it makes no sense in your case. If you're allowed on stage during weekdays, you should be allowed on stage during weekends. You said you pay the same house fees as the other dancers. I sure hope this means he's not charging you extra to stay off stage on weekends. Only girls who voluntarily avoid stage pay a fee to remain off in addition to their house fee. A good club won't hit you with an off stage fee if you have a doctor's note or are pregnant.

A lot of clubs hold their week-day girls to a lower set of standards than the weekend girls... as it's a more desireable shift and they often have more girls to choose from/more than enough attractive girls to go on stage.

So a girl who is allowed to on stage during a weekday shift where there are only 10-15 girls there... could easy be told she can't go on stage during the weekend where there are twice as many girls to fill stage rotations.

Weekend crowd normally means more volume than weekday crowd in most cases. So being allowed to be on stage Sun - Wed but not Thurs - Sat actually makes sense. There are generally less girls working on weeknights than weekends as well, which is more incentive for management to allow all girls to go onstage.

Honestly I've never worked in a club where there wasn't a list of girls who couldn't go onstage. If you just make the improvements, things should be back to normal in no time.

I flat out ask my boss to fire fat or ugly girls... not that he gives a shit what I think, but sorry my club is known for having the hottest girls in the city. If a customer walks in and sees someone overweight, ugly or not put together on the stage they are going to turn around and walk out and I've lost my business. Id rather work in a club full of 10s then one that embraces purple hair and overweight girls because "customers have varied tastes".

If a model gains weight she loses her contract so I really don't even think it would be illegal to fire someone in a strip club for it.

Its sucky that it happened to you though. I mean no one wants to be told they are fat. I would just focus on being healthy and hustling the floor. I personally don't like doing stages.. Im lazy and old... its too much effort haha.
