One thing that is difficult to get used to is how the clubs here take advantage of the customers, particularly those who go into the VIP room. Already customers are paying exorbinent prices for drinks, $10 a piece (even if it bottled water), but in the VIP is the where the real damage takes place. The VIP hosts rely on the intoxication of the customer and the persuasion of the dancers to get huge tips for the VIP host, the VIP bartending/wait staff, and the dancer. Then, once the half hour or hour is over the VIP host expects a cut of the dancer’s money, 20%. Pay them and they will help you out getting clients in the future, don’t pay them and they will do their best to freeze you out.
Last night at Olympic Gardens I had a man do a 30 minute VIP with me, ordinarily $300. At the front of the VIP the host checks us in and asks if he will pay with cash or credit. He says credit. They instantly charge him $375 instead of the $300 because that will help offset the 10% hit dancers pay to change in funny money at the end of the night. For ½ an hour with a dancer there is a mandatory $100 bar tab. For an hour it is $200. When the time is up that’s when the real overcharging begins. The bartender wants 20%= $20. The VIP host wants $100 tip. I want a $100 tip (shit, if the host is gonna get that tip for doing NOTHING then I want $100 too). Total = $700 for ½ an hour. Even in his drunken stupor the customer knows he’s been hustled.
Perhaps it’s because it was my first time but it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Ultimately I know these men come into the club willingly and the girls do their best to show them a good time, but it just seems so greedy. I actually felt bad after the man had finished paying out, but of course I have to act as if it’s all normal. The reality is that in Vegas, it is normal. Everyone has their hand out here because they know folks come to town ready to spend money, be it on gambling, food, strippers, or other entertainment, and they have no problem insisting on their share. It doesn’t bother me enough not to continue, but it’s just a real eye opener as to what I need to become accustomed to in order to be the money-maker I want to be.
