Default Getting used to the Vegas super hustle

One thing that is difficult to get used to is how the clubs here take advantage of the customers, particularly those who go into the VIP room. Already customers are paying exorbinent prices for drinks, $10 a piece (even if it bottled water), but in the VIP is the where the real damage takes place. The VIP hosts rely on the intoxication of the customer and the persuasion of the dancers to get huge tips for the VIP host, the VIP bartending/wait staff, and the dancer. Then, once the half hour or hour is over the VIP host expects a cut of the dancer’s money, 20%. Pay them and they will help you out getting clients in the future, don’t pay them and they will do their best to freeze you out.

Last night at Olympic Gardens I had a man do a 30 minute VIP with me, ordinarily $300. At the front of the VIP the host checks us in and asks if he will pay with cash or credit. He says credit. They instantly charge him $375 instead of the $300 because that will help offset the 10% hit dancers pay to change in funny money at the end of the night. For ½ an hour with a dancer there is a mandatory $100 bar tab. For an hour it is $200. When the time is up that’s when the real overcharging begins. The bartender wants 20%= $20. The VIP host wants $100 tip. I want a $100 tip (shit, if the host is gonna get that tip for doing NOTHING then I want $100 too). Total = $700 for ½ an hour. Even in his drunken stupor the customer knows he’s been hustled.

Perhaps it’s because it was my first time but it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Ultimately I know these men come into the club willingly and the girls do their best to show them a good time, but it just seems so greedy. I actually felt bad after the man had finished paying out, but of course I have to act as if it’s all normal. The reality is that in Vegas, it is normal. Everyone has their hand out here because they know folks come to town ready to spend money, be it on gambling, food, strippers, or other entertainment, and they have no problem insisting on their share. It doesn’t bother me enough not to continue, but it’s just a real eye opener as to what I need to become accustomed to in order to be the money-maker I want to be.

You don't HAVE to tip that big of an amount for the bouncers doing nothing.
And what the hell are you tipping the bartender for? That I don't understand.
I only tip bouncers if they help me get the customer, if they're not helping me get dances, aren't really protecting me, just sitting at the front of VIP writing down names, why should I give him my money when he gets a salary and I don't?
I do tip when I feel they've helped in some kind of way.

Damn. Just reading that made me stressed! That is ridiculous. I don't see why the customer is expected to tip the VIP host the same amount he's tipping you. All the VIP host does is stand around with a thumb up their ass. You're the one who actually has to entertain for 30 minutes. And then....after all is said and done....YOU'RE expected to hand over another 20% of the money you just earned?! I am floored. It seems likes there's no way around it either

I never feel bad about it. If they were nice guys they wouldn't be in a strip club in the first place. How many of those guys will jump at the chance to take advantage of you when you get drunk. They're adults and they know what they're getting themselves into. I really think everyone who goes to Vegas strip clubs knows how it works even if they think they're too smart to let it happen to them.

It was the customer that was expected to tip the bar, thankfully not me. I've never seen anything like the VIP racket they have going at OG. Even the VIP hosts at Rhino just want you to throw em a twenty or so...:/

Wait a second...so is it typical for the VIP host to get enormous tips for just standing there? It sounds like she could potentially make more money than dancers on some nights, wow..

That really sounds like a tough act to swallow!

I don't think that is exactly fair to say. Its almost like saying "if you were a nice girl you wouldn't be a stripper anyway."

But as far as the hustle that goes on there.... WOW is all I can say too. I'm especially flabbergasted at the VIP hostess getting $100.

Yeah, you're probably right. I shouldn't be so judgmental. I felt exactly the way you do a few months ago when I was in a room with a seemingly decent guy who was being raked over the coals by everyone in the room. I didn't think he deserved it & one of the girls kept feeding him drugs to get him to lose track of time & money and the host & waitress were encouraging it and he kept asking me to get rid of all of them because he thought I was the only one he could trust. I felt awful because I obviously have no power in a situation like that & of course the host just told me to shut my mouth.
On the other hand in my town it's usually me getting screwed over when I don't want to have sex in a private room & the host makes me give the money back so he can bring in a girl who will, so I'm developing a very bad opinion of the men in these places.
I don't condone getting a guy fucked up to take advantage of him, but I also don't have a problem with asking him for as much as he's willing to give because he can say no at any point. Especially in Vegas where you'll see these guys lose $20,000 in a sitting while they gamble. At least with us they're having a great experience for their money. I do get what you're saying though, those guys are walking into a shark tank and the girls are literally circling the room for prey. And everyone else is circling the girls for some castoffs.

Here's something even crazier though. In new York, at least where I work, the private rooms are $650+ for 1/2 hour, the cheapest bottle of champagne is $420, the host expects a 25% tip from both the customer and the dancer, the waitress wants a 25% tip from the customer, AND there's a separate security guy outside the rooms who expects to be tipped as well. The rooms start at $1200 an hour for the base price and go up depending on the size of the room & the amount of privacy it offers + the tipping on top of that. This place gives me ulcers thinking I'll never find anyone to spend that on me each night and simultaneously makes my crazy with jealousy that there are so many people in here every night who can afford that.

Out of that the dancer gets 1/2 the room charge - tips & the fee to turn in your funny money. The girls who are doing extras have the most expensive pimps ever. If I ever decide to break down and say yes to sex I'm just going to buy a website because the money is clearly out there and I'd be happy to keep it all.

I think most of the workers in the club make more than the dancers every night. They have the best job ever. If I had known about this a long time ago I would've found one of the clubs that promotes the VIP waitresses to VIP hosts when they build up a clientele of their own. Not only do the hosts get tips from the customers being seated on the floor, the dancers hoping to get hooked up later in the night, and the customers and dancers in VIP, but they get a percentage of the bottle sales in some places too. Even the djs will sometimes make more than us if we have a bad night. Think about it, $20 from 40-60 girls, or more in places like Vegas & Dallas, and don't we all usually tip more than the minimum? After shelling out hundreds in tips to the hosts $40-60 to the dj still seems like a bargain.

If you look at it another way though it doesn't have to be bad, it's like making an investment. All of these hosts have relationships with high rollers who will call ahead to have the "best" girls provided for them. If you're known as being good with the customers and the host knows he'll get a kickback then he can pick you to be the best girl that night and you make a lot of money without the sales pitch. And the hosts aren't patient like us, they won't bother with a customer who isn't going to spend at least a few hours, and usually with clients and several dancers, so you end up making it back anyway. They seem to be doing nothing but they do a lot of work keeping contact with good customers & inviting them back in, just like we do with our regulars. Vegas hosts are really good about this, especially if you're forward about saying your tips are quid pro quo. Almost all my $5,000+ nights there were hooked up by hosts I tipped well.

I've worked at OG for a year and a half and I've never heard of these tip outs. Usually the customer is expected to tip the waitress and about 10%-20% to the hostess. The only time I've ever considered tipping someone over $100 is if I'm making $1,000+

That's how it's suppose to be if you made that much, not under. That's just a rip off. I think Piper meant the host wants $100 from the customer for the half hour, not from her. He wants a 20% cut of her earning, which is ridiculous if he didn't hook her up.

At my club I tip 10% if they helped me get a tip on top of my earning. I'll do 20% if they hooked me up with a spender. Seems fair.

If he is trying to take advantage of you, fuck that shit. Def reverse the roles.

I also think I know which club you're talking about. lol. It will make you feel like that! Don't be sorry.

Yup I've worked there for about a year and a half also and I've never given them that much. For the most part I tip about 10-15%. In the beginning I tipped big in hopes of getting 'hooked up', but that never happened, so I'll keep as much money as I can. Don't believe the hype of having to over tip to keep people happy at that club.

I even had one girl tell me that she tipped 50% to Salsa and still never got hooked up and she tipped her that much more than once. I told her that she was crazy.

Oh and always try to get them to pay you cash. Otherwise Salsa WILL get her $100 tip and you'll get barely anything. Let them know they are gonna be charged 20% surcharge on the credit card and that you highly recommend they get cash from the ATM. At least that way they know up front and if they still wanna use their credit card, you did warn them. I always try to avoid guys using credit, because sometimes the card doesn't go through, and then u just spent almost 20 min that you aren't getting paid for. Plus, I always tend to get tipped better when they pay cash.

Its typical for them, yes. They know that those who want to make the good money are willing to pay & those who will not pay are not willing to make good money. There difference in Vegas versus other cities though, IT PAYS OFF. If it didn't pay off, no one would be tipping anyway. It takes money to make money in this case. And you need that opinionated, bubbly, overconfident personality to make it work with the customer.

Yes, it was Salsa! She was the one who demanded $100 from the customer! Then I tipped her $60 myself (too much in retrospect) and when she put the money in her drawer, it went right on top a HUGE stack of other twenties. That woman makes more than most of the dancers ins the club.

In the orientation they try to push the tipping aspect, but I really don't see the point past 10-15% if they did not get you that customer. Thank you to the OG girls for letting me know that both me AND the customer got hustled by Salsa and that it's not the norm to have to tip that much.

Wow, your story is even crazier than mine! Certain places are simply not shy about charging the absolute maximum they can get away with, and so long as men don't mind paying, there's really no problem. It makes me mad that the establishments want so much in tip-outs. It's like extortion kind of because if you don't pay you are on your own regarding finding customers. One girl I heard of on this board even got pushed off a premium shift at Sapphires for not tipping out enough to the VIP hots. :/

In normal circumstances I wouldn't agree with this but people that go to Vegas go with the intention of blowing lots of money. Also customer service isn't that big of a deal in a place like Vegas because so many people are going in and out of the city. You may never have repeat customers there so I say go for it! This business is getting harder so we have to change up how we operate some times.

As for tipping the host/esses-- I may approach some of the hosts here with a sort of rewards tip plan:

For the first 2 dances they hook me up with, they get 7.5 or 10% of what I get (so like $40-50). The next two, 15 or 20% (so $60-90). Incentivizing. Hoping it works!
