    Default MasterCleanse time again!

I'm on my second day of this.

I hate the salt water flushes more than I used to but it might just be because it's only the first couple of days.

Feeling good though. Not hungry. I'm already at the 40 hour mark, and the first couple of times, the 36 hour was the hump mark to get over, not from being hungry but wanting to go out to a restaurant.

It's a little bit easier since I'm travelling so I'm not with my boyfriend who would just bitch about "oh my god-- that smells bad!" or "how can you drink that! it's nasty!" Ugh. I love him, but for a man who did two tours and saw a lot of shit go down, he is a fucking PANSY when it comes to trying alternative health type stuff, especially swallowing pills or drinking stuff like black strap molasses or diatomaceous earth.

So! I'm on my own and I'm doing it and I'm hoping to go longer than the longest time I've gone (16 days.) I'm not holding myself to that, as I tend to think anytime I'm cleansing is a good thing and once I start stressing about doing it for x amount of time, then I start to hate doing it.

Whole Foods by me is selling fresh squeezed unpasteurized lime and lemon juice with no additives, so I got that. It's a nice change to not have to squeeze the limes or lemons, though there is some pulp in it and that's technically a no-no.

I am also excited because I didn't know that diabetics can use blackstrap molasses-- and while the taste sucks, I'll take anything that I can change up with the maple syrup since after awhile it's tiresome to drink the same thing over and over again-- same thing with doing limes this time, which I think I only tried once during my first and second times and stuck mainly to lemons. Plus I think there's tons of good stuff in BSM. I was using it a couple of weeks ago to counteract the clogging affects of Diatomaceous earth, and found when my period rolled around five days ago, it was a lot lighter. I'm curious to see how this next period will be if I supplement with it nearly daily, rather than just a week before my period.

Anyway, if anyone else wants to do the master cleanse, holler! Otherwise I'm sure no one's going to want to hear the gross, disgusting or otherwise banal details of bowel movements, detox symptoms, and calorie and ounces of water counting.

I started this 3 days ago.

Do you put the same amount of molasses as you would syrup?

Do you miss chewing things...for some reason I do.

    I
was chewing on ice last night which I know is bad for your.teeth but i like it.

Natasha...what happened? Two thoughts--cayenne kind of sucks so you can make a shot of syrup and cayenne, do that then have lemon and MS water. also, if you're not taking like 1200 calories, you're going to be hungry.

LA: when I take bsm regularly, it's 2-3 tablespoons. I've taken it atraight and it' better in water.

I use a tablespoon or two in each serving since it's only like ten calories more than MS. I'm trying to calorie load throughout the day so by nightime I can have some lemon water on ice.

haveyou played with the temperatures? You don't want it hot but warm is okay, and playing with that and ice cold changed things up for me before.

Some people mutate the MS with raw honey or apple cider vinegar. I think if I get really desperate, I might allow a substitution of ACV and raw honey just so long as I go back to MS or BSM.

my SWflush failed last night. worked today though. My stomach has been gurgling when I roll over and I have to keep reminding myself not to fart :p

I found a cool new master cleanse site, which I'll post later on. supposedly this guy wrote a book and has been helping master cleansers for like 20 years and did a more.complete write up of what to expect than stanleboroughs.did.

otherwise I depend on curezone and earthclinic.

how long are you trying for this time LA? Wanna be MC buddies?

LA-- I don't advocate this as I still think it counts as a solid but I thought it was an ingenious cheat--
One chick wrote about eating maple candy which I guess is dehydrated maple syrup and supposedly solid MS
    with no additives?

You'd have to brush like a mofo after but that could work.

I do find if my tastebuds are burning I just want liquid. so maybe up your cayenne when you get a munchie urge?

I've been wanting to try this. I've been really stressed and drinking too much. I feel like I need to shed some skin after this semester is over and fasts/meditation are always a favorite of mine. I vote for sharing the gross, disgusting, or otherwise banal details.

I don't think so, but then again, I'm pretty lazy so if I need to take a nap, time-wise, most days I can.

You should read testimonials or people's experiences on various websites about it. A lot of it depends on what shape your body is in. A lot of it also depends on you taking in enough calories AND flushing out your colon.

I didn't really work out my first time, and the second time was just for a few days. I want to work out this time.

As far as tests and stuff....I think people recommend that you start on a three day weekend so you're over a lot of the worst parts-- getting most of the most recent food out of your system, getting the hang of withdrawal if you're, say, a caffeine junkie. I guess being a sugar junkie doesn't matter since maple syrup is mostly sugar.

Try it and see. Go easy on yourself. Take in enough calories. Make sure you're flushing your system. And you'll probably find that there'll be a specific time that's tough to get through but after that, it's relatively easy sailing. And unless your systems all gunked up, it's mostly going to be mental issues-- like you really do have a lot of kind of depressing realizations about you and food. I think almost everyone who tries Master Cleanse, even the people who think they eat healthy, realize they come at the topic of eating all wrong.

And I'm totally there too-- Don't get me wrong-- I'm looking forward to a pizza and a burger, but if I can get off this, keep off, say, half the weight I've lost (seems to be the average so long as you don't completely go back to binging on food), and find it easier to avoid sugar and fat because I'll be concentrating on stuff with actual nutrition in it...well, I'll try to balance out the bad eating with that.

darn...even talking about this makes me want to go pick up something to eat. *sigh*

You just have to take it one day at a time. And sometimes an hour at a time.

I'm not going to say I'm going to make x days because who knows what's going to happen tomorrow. But I'm trying my best

Edit: well here's some banal details-- I'm at maybe 800 calories today and I need to go pick up some maple syrup. For some reason, I like my MC drinks cold and cold MC with Blackstrap molasses is not pleasing, though I could see doing a warm drink with that.

Oh, and mason jars for the win. I bought a mason jar today that I think holds around 60+ ounces.

I need to make myself another drink. I'm starting to daydream about food. And I find if I'm full calorie-wise, I'm not tempted.

The only thing I will say is watch the salt flushes. If done too often, they can seriously hurt your kidneys and intestines.

The first time I did the MC I went for 30 days and last time I did 35, losing 22lbs, then 25. Unfortunately, last time after the Cleanse I went back to eating crap, so that ruined a months worth of not eating. *facepalm* I plan on doing a two week Cleanse after I finish Insanity, which will be the beginning of January. So if anyone wants to kick off their New Year's weight loss goals with me, it's time to prepare! ^_^

How long did you keep off the weight the first time?
I kept off the eight pounds I lost from doing sixteen days for
maybe 8-12 months. it's only in the last two or so months
(3+ years after my longest cleanse that I've been the heaviest I've
Ever been at a smidge over 171 (normally163ish.)

How long before you stop forgetting that you can't eat?

Last night I was a the bookstore and none of the books interested
me and I swear in quick suggestion my thoughts were,

    "I'm bored"
    ...
    "I should get a cookie."

I know I'll stil eat meat and cheese and bread when I'm done
but if I can appreciate raw foods more and cut down on the mindless
eating when I'm bored, r lonely, or want to reward myself, then that will
be a big enough positive step for me.

I kept off 20lbs from the first time and have still kept it off. I just used that first Cleanse to kickstart my journey through P90X and the Abs Diet, so that helped alot. I got in good shape, but didn't lose anymore weight which discouraged me, so I ended up not exercising again until now. >_< I didn't realize how awesome it made me feel to be healthy, so after the second MC I went back to bad habits. I missed the sweet and salty foods I hadn't been eating, which packed on the weight I'd lost, which sucks soooo much. I always miss eating when I'm on the Cleanse, but I still cook for the fam which actually helped me through it alot. The smells were extremely satisfying.

You really do have to take it one day at a time and my advice is... make sure you're coming up with a healthy eating plan while you're on it, or all that weight you dropped from not eating will just come right back, making it a wasted effort.

FG- I will totally be your buddy. I only want to do it for tops 2 weeks...I like to go out to eat and drink too much to do it for longer than that. Once I am done with the cleanse, I am going to start a hardcore pilates regiment. I have been doing 3 hours of cardio a day. I am really determined to get back in shape!!

I went to whole foods. i can get grade b but google says technically there's not a grade c anymore???

Ugh. My boyfriend and I had a sight disagreement about something PTSD related and it made me feel like shit
because I'm never going to know what he's going through. I also feel like shit and feel like he changed the rules on me.

so, along with calorie fuck uppedness, I've been emotionally wanting to eat.

I'm not really hungry. I just want to lose my sorrow in the joys of stuffingmy face
GOSHDAMNIT!!! I WANT SOME CHEESE FRIES!!!!

and the whole foods can't order grade c for me even if it does exist; I asked.

I'm going to fight the ghost of cheese fry past, but if I fll off the wagon, I'll get back on.

I'm tracing my difficulties to the fact that my SWF failed today so I haven't eliminated.

First time I did the Master Cleanse, I was working a desk job. Didn't read carefully about the Salt water flush. Drank and went to work. Oh, yea, big mistake. Won't go into details but it was a horrible experience and very embarressing. Anyways, be CLOSE TO A TOILET FOR HOURS AFTER DRINKING IT-LIKE A FEW FEET CLOSE! But, after that ONE TIME flushing, I just drank the cleanse and lost 21 pounds in 3 weeks-and it stayed off! However, I have discovered Herbs And Prunes pills that do just as "cleansing" as the salt water minus the emergency to the toilet issue. Also, I find GREAT fasting inspiration on the Fitnessthroughfasting.com website-master cleanse info on it and all over motivation!

^ the weird thing is, sometimes I actually really enjoy the salt water flush. I find the warm water with pink himalayan salt soothing. Othertimes, yeah, I go gag getting it down.

However, I've used epsom salt loads of times before when I was constantly constipated, which changed with drinking spring water instead of distilled, and got better as I focused on less bread, and also added BSM to my routine when I felt blocked up.

If people haven't used a salt water flush before, yeah, they should definitely exercise caution.

Cbrandy-- How much did you change your eating before and after the mastercleanse? I know when I did mine, I wanted to vomit at the smell of bacon, and really loved fresh vegetables. Granted, my eating did go downhill but I do think I still managed to stay away from a ton of processed crap. The past couple of months it seems has been a struggle for me, and I'll admit I've dealt with depression by seeking the highs that come from a nice fatty meal, or some sugar via soda and pastries.

I don't have the guts to try it yet. For one thing my bf would probably kick up a fuss a) because he thinks I look fine already, and b) because we always eat dinner together either out in town or if I cook.
I also reckon I'd fail miserably when confronted with snacks and treats.
And I never don't drink during a week. I either have a social life or make money drinking champagne at work.

I thought the point of the master cleanse was little calories? so if you're consuming all these calories couldn't you just have a salad or something and get the same effect?

No-- it's not about little calories--so many of us eat more calories than we need to maintain our weight, so yes, people lose weight.

Really, it's about giving your body a chance to rest because of the amount of energy our body spends on digesting stuff. Plus, we tax our liver and kidneys and other organs with toxins and chemicals and sugar spikes and such-- so being about to do a cleanse allows our body to redirect it's energy towards healing stuff that's been on the backburner. In the meantime, yes, having more control over your calories does help your body lose weight, but also, as your fat is burned (you have to exercise to burn the fat, otherwise your body will eat up muscle first) fat-soluable toxins come out and so it helps that your organs can help expedite processing them out of the body.

It also helps regulate digestion in the large and small intestine as over several days (and even after a week) one will still see matter coming out despite not eating solids. The idea there is that there's mucoid plaque that covers the intestine walls and messes with how the body absorbs nutrients, I believe, in the small intestine. After emptying the bowels, the mucoid plaque (with the help of the cayenne pepper I think) will become loose, and with roughage, when the person does start back to eating solids, will help push that out.

So it's really a multi-part cleanse that only, as a side effect, deals with calories.

You could have 2000 calories a day on the master cleanse and still be doing the main part of cleanse.

Before the cleanse, I just tried to cut out the processed junk and eat veggies, salads, fruits, lean meats. Same with afterwards, although, I will admit, I am still a junk food junkie at heart, plus I have an emotional attachment to food-like you, eating makes me feel good and when I get stressed or depressed, I just need that comfort food. Even though it makes me sick afterwards. That's why I am just fasting with juice, nothing against the master cleanse, I am just too lazy this time and just drink what's in the house, along with water. Don't want to hunt down maple syrup that's dark and organic and not in regular grocery stores, that kind of thing. But yea, food is my addiction, and my best friend even commented that I don't eat that much (when I stay over for the weekends) so why do I have a weight issue? It's just the wrong foods along with right foods, for me. I love veggies, brown rice, fish, lean chicken, but I also love Del Classic Chicken burritos and french fries just as much. I really just need to cut out all the crap, but first I am dealing with my emotional addiction to food altogether. Like tonight, I was actually ANGRY about not having chicken...as I am fasting and not eating anything...but angry, like an addict with withdrawl...I dream about ribs, it's insane, but I remember back when I was a skinny bitch I never even thought about food, now it's all I think about. I am proportionate so I don't look "obese" -I still am the same weight I am in my avatar-but medically, I am. For me, it's not just about losing the weight so I can be healthy and not give free rein to getting diabetes or something, it's also about my addiction, and that's what worries me. I can be that skinny bitch again but can I make the permanent changes? The fact that I am almost a month fasting and still emotionally charged about it worries me. Because I know I can't lose the weight and then go back to my old eating habits...hopefully by next month I will be so GRATEFUL to eating again that I will be careful and happy with my weight loss that every time I want french fries I will remember the torture I went through and resist cuz it's not worth it. I just wish I was emotionally DETACHED right now! Sure would make it easier!

I was reading an article talking about grades, and supposedly, all maple syrup is organic, because it's not common practice to spray the trees.

I hear you about the emotional aspect. It all comes down to control, and having willpower.

I think...it wouldn't be so bad if I liked exercising...

I need to start liking exercising again.
