Did an internet search & found this
Some of the following statistics appeared in the TOI on 22nd November and other statistics I collected from AVERT, an international HIV and AIDS charity based in the UK :
Age of Consent
Canada: 14
France: 15
Japan: 13-18
Hong Kong: 16
USA: 14-18, depending on state
Italy/Lithunia/South Carolina/China: 14
Mexico: 12 +
Australia: 16-18, depending on state.
Germany: 14-16
Pakistan: Must be married
Denmark: 15
United Arab Emirates: Married/18
Argentina: 13-16
UK: 16
India:16
Switzerland: 16
Seems Mexico is still the lowest. It appears many other countries are averaging `15 -16 (which I could actually see alittle more realistically). Asian countries seem to be averaging 15 -16 as well-some even up to 19 or not at all if not married. South Korea has the lowest at 13. This is so interesting & weird....

I find this very sad.

This is sad but have heard of even younger girls. I remember around 1986 a 9 year old Mexican girl got pregnant by a local boy. If that's bad, perhaps the most disturbing is a 5 year old in Lima Peru got pregnant back in 1939: . They never found out who the dad was but they long suspected it was her dad.
At 10 I was playing dolls and thought boys were yucky. Poor girls. I didn't even get my period until 12.

^that is disgusting! It doesn't mention at all who knocked up the 5 year old or what happened to them . & menstruation at 8 mos.!!wow![]()

I'm pretty sure that Mexico is characterized as a "developing country" - kind of a second world (or between first and third world).
That's not to say that there aren't areas with the poverty and social issues seen in third world countries, but there are also parts of Mexico that are not that different from our lives in the U.S.
Thanks for the info on ages of consent, Brandi_Lynn! It was interesting to note that most of the countries on the list were pretty developed countries. Even so, according to this link: http://www.avert.org/age-of-consent.htm, the legal age of consent in Bolivia is 14.
Bolivia is certainly more of a third world country than Mexico! Zimbabwe is also listed at 12, but I couldn't find any other countries that had a legal age of consent that low. Some were listed as "?", so I guessing that those countries don't necessarliy have a standard legal age of consent.

well i grew up in the philippines. when i was grade 4 (I was 9 years old), a grade 5 student got kicked out of my school. apparently she got pregnant at the age of 10. she wasnt raped. people from the third world countries have to grow up quicker compare to the other countries. since poverty is an issue, people have to mature earlier.
i got my period when i was 11. usually at the age of 8 to 12 is when the girls get their periods in the philippines

What is with this?!? The 10 year old would have to prove she was abused or raped? This is crazy!State laws in Mexico prohibit abortions for young mothers unless there is proof that they were a victim of sexual assault. The legal age of consent in Mexico is 12 years old. Those younger than 12 who have abortions can face a fine or prison if they cannot prove the pregnancy was a result of sexual abuse.

I didn't want to touch that particular issue because of the political ban but will say this: stories like that question my religious views because I happen to think it's wrong to force a child to go through childbirth.
