    Default Small business loans?

Hey, so, wondering, is there any point in trying to get a loan for an adult website? I'm camming right now, but my goal for 2012 is to start a horror porn site, and all of the materials for sfx cost $$$. Is it possible? How would I go about it? I've never gotten a loan before and the entire process is so daunting to me. I know you ladies to be a bunch of business-minded financially savvy bunch so tell me...is it worth a shot?

I am assuming it would be complicated. Do you have good credit? Could you take out a credit card and use it to fund your business?

I would also assume that unless you are in California, it would be very difficult to get a loan due to porn laws.

If you're serious about getting a 'small business' loan for an adult entertainment related business ...

#1 - no well known bank will touch it with a 10 foot pole. The reason for this is twofold. First is the unwanted risk to 'goodwill' the bank would experience by officially associating itself with an adult business. The second is that, statistically speaking, as an industry group the financial 'survival' rate, the tax compliance rate, the chargeback rate from customers etc. are shockingly high compared to 'mainstream' industry groups

#2 - even if a venture capital group were to take an interest, like the banks who first rejected the loan they are going to want to know about the 'brick and mortar' assets that the business intends to acquire. Having a 'brick and mortar' facility is essential to the new adult business being able to obtain a credit card merchant account of its own from a commercial bank that specializes in adult business credit card charge processing. Being able to obtain your own credit card merchant account means an overall credit card processing charge burden of 10% or less. Not being able to obtain your own credit card merchant account means dependence on a specialized 3rd party processing service increasing the processing charge burden to 15-20%. This additional cost i.e. reduction in profit margin makes it very difficult for adult businesses depending on the latter to achieve stable profitability. 'Brick and mortar' assets also serve as security for any loan.

I guess that I should state directly that web based adult businesses that did NOT have a 'brick and mortar' business investment were notorious for simply 'disappearing' without paying creditors ( credit cards attempting chargebacks, web server providers, internet bandwidth providers etc. ) in the 1990's when they were still able to obtain business loan financing and bank based credit card merchant accounts. That history still 'haunts' the adult industry.

#3 - Owning and operating such an adult website will make you both a 'primary' and 'secondary' producer of adult material where Section 2257 is concerned. This can lead to significant legal risk, thus significant compliance costs.

If you have a lot of assets already, have other successful businesses, no bankruptcies, and have proof of steady income for like the last 10 years, then yes. Loans are a catch-22 (except for school loans): you have to have money to get money.

I'll let you know when it's more than an idea, and more like a reality.
