Default Are you Contemptuous of your Customers??....

Heard a ex-bouncer say that what got him the most about working in strip clubs was how the dancers could be so sweet to the customers while they were "pumping them for money" yet express nothing but contempt & disgust for the customers later......Sad, for us the customers.....but for you as well........

That's an incredibly pejorative description of the women in the industry. Have you ever worked food service? It's pretty common for servers to do the same thing; everybody likes to blow off a little steam, and for every great customer we really like there are a few pains-in-the-ass who make the job difficult. We field insults both intentional and inadvertent, constant pressure to allow people past our boundaries - at a discount, no less - and endless attempts to get something for nothing.

I think if you're being honest you'll also admit that customers don't always have the nicest things to say about strippers, either. Gender-relations aren't in a particularly healthy state, generally speaking.

Every stripper is different. Every customer is different. I have former customers who became real friends and have stayed in my life for years. We're all human; allow for individual possibility, and remember that you reap what you sow.
Left the biz after more than 15 years; still miss it today. Deeply passionate about the rights of the women in it and the way it acts as a barometer of sexual health and gender-relations in our society. Committed to helping women in the industry find a sense of cultural context and feminist relevance; your health and happiness help the business - and the culture around it - evolve.

Thanks for the honest responses......I've been called a lot in my life but never a misogynist....And FS,your comment on the current state of gender relations is so true......No I DIDN"T spend all my money in a strip club this weekend....I did it two weeks ago......I got plenty of woes but I don't blame any on strippers..........actually, I have never had a bad experience with one & look foward to going to the club I patronize.......Owner & KiKi, your responses seem to express the type of contempt I was asking about......It really was an honest.....though naive perhaps..question......

^ It wasn't an honest or naive question. It wasn't a question at all, unless you are referring to the title of your thread.

"Sad for us customers...but for you as well" is a condescending back-handed swat at dancers that you posted in a dancer support forum.

If you want opinions from dancers in the forum, it might be a good idea to actually post a question or comment where the body of your message is less dismissive and insulting.

Ill just say this. No one likes their customers all the time. Not in any industry.
But no, we do not hate all of our customers. I like most of them. I won't deal with ones I dont like. Matter of fact if I hated all my customers i would find a new job. why would i stay somewhere that all the people made me miserable?

Everyone working with people hates their customers except for the very few pathetic people I met who literally said they LOVED working with people. When I used to work jobs having to deal with people I would talk about them and cuss them and sometimes I even would be rude to them to their face. I've never been a dancer, but it can't be much different. When you go to a restaraunt the server is nice to you too. Do you think they care that you ordered your steak well done and it came out medium well? Or do they even care that you like your steak at all? But they come back and smile, because at the end of your dinner their tip depends on whether or not you were happy with all aspects of your meal, even those that the wait staff cannot control. The only difference is that strippers are asking for way more than a waiter at a restaurant and so they must pretend to be extra extra nice or whatever it is you want. So they probably don't like you, they probably hate you and they probably hate that you even want to talk to them at all. They want you to say "hey i want a lap dance" and they say "ok" and take you in the back do the thing get the money and send you on your way. That's really what they want which is what we all wanted when we worked with people. Just make the sale and get out of my face. But they will like you and your stupid stories or life issues if you give them loads of cash. Or if you buy them things. And if you really like people who are fake to you in order to obtain your money then they will like you more than the other customers.

Because they are hungover after spending the night with their hand and realizing it doesn't love them back like they hoped. Plus the plastic doll sprung a hole and they can't fix it today.

After college I worked for a few months as a glorified intern for an elected official, answering his phones and sorting his mail and stuff. I hated the voters who would call up with questions, comments, etc. I mean I hated them. I soon discovered that all of the other interns and glorified interns also hated them. It was actually pretty funny considering that these were the people who elected our guy to office. It's just that they were sooooooo annoying. And it wasn't really their fault, it's just the way it was, because every time one of them called with some request, question, comment, etc, it just interrupted our work and made our jobs harder.

So yeah, customer service sucks on any level, and people in customer service often get irritated by their customers.

I met some people here and there that were cool at my job. They were the people that realized that my job was just a job and that I hated people. Probably people like myself. I can tell when I'm in a customer service situation where the person waiting on me seriously hates their job. And I'll usually say something like " It's ok, if I were you I'd hate having to do this too. Just calm down, I'm not going to cuss you out if you don't fix my issue at this exact moment". However, if they are completely incompetent I usually end up being the nightmare customer. I used to have people say "You really hate your job don't you" and I'd say "YES, I'm only here because I need to pay for college" and then they would be like yeah, it shows.

To whoever that said never become a dancer. I won't. I could never be one because I can't be fake to people for money. I'd probably tell someone ugly "you are ugly and I won't touch you" even if they were waving a few hundreds in my direction.

Are most people who go to strip clubs so pathetic they must use a pocket vagina to get their rocks off? Because I've seen a few homely fellows but mostly I see young guys that I'm sure have some tang they can get at any time. They just are there for whatever reason. I usually just end up going home and having sex with my husband, no different than any other night we have sex.

I love to masturbate. I do it all the time, by myself or with someone else. Sometimes it's more fun to do a mutual masturbation than sex. But I always thought it was pretty pathetic to go shopping in a sex store that has movies and see old crusty dudes buying pocket masturbators and then go inside. I mean, use your hand. Have you ever felt those things? They remind me of how a dead body might feel if I had ever felt one. And blow up dolls, really. LOL. Once I bought a fat girl blow up doll for a gag. If that's what people use to get off on it's REALLY pathetic.

Well Rufus, not such an impressive debut on a stripper support forum, it is true.

But if you can at least manage to avoid giving the strippers you are pretending to 'help' so many drugs they can't even remember their name, fucking them while they are semi-comatose, and bragging about your sexual prowess endlessly afterward, there's hope for you yet.

Unlike some hypocritical swine who pretend to be gentlemen in the clubs, but are about as far removed as you can get from that state of grace--despite all the delusions and non-stop, self-serving bullshit they will spew out at the drop of a hat.

It's not an easy business. In fact it's downright brutal, even without the wannabe date rapists.

If you actually worked in a club for more than a week or so, and had a modicum of perception, you'd see why they complain about the assholes.

And I'm sure all the bouncers just love the customers! ...yeah right, they probably hate the customers in a SC just as much as any dancer. Anybody who deals with annoying customers hates customers. I don't hate all customers - just the ones who piss me off. I freaking love good customers. They just seem to be rare, in any field. Honestly, if you were ask me who my least favorite customers were in SCs, I'd say the guys who tried to blatantly grab my boobs, bite my nipples, or lick my ass onstage. However, you know what gets me just as annoyed? Like FS said, when someone in a restaurant complains that they ordered their steak Well and it came out Medium Well - BUT they don't want me to take it back and fix it - they just wanted to complain. So... yeah... everybody everywhere hates annoying customers. So if you feel sorry for strippers, feel sorry for your waitress' "fake niceness" the next time you eat out.

    ^^^Exactly^^^

There have been more times than I could possibly remember when I have had the utmost contempt for the idiots, the jerks, the annoying ones, the non-tipping motherfuckers (I certainly don't expect every customer to tip every girl, not hardly--but when you see these guys sitting there like sea slugs, not tipping any of them for hours--hell yes I feel contempt), but most of all the guys who don't understand that 'No' means keep you fucking hands away from the forbidden areas and you dick in your pants.

The cool ones are great, of course--but all it takes is a few assholes to ruin the night for a lot of the people who have to deal with them.

My sarcastic post aside, I do dislike the assholes in the clubs. The nice people don't bother me at all, but sadly have found many of the "nice guys" turn out to be assholes too, except they hide it better. Customers who come in, spend money, polite to everyone whether they tip everyone or not, and don't expect sex? I enjoy them and they can make a rotten night great. The jerks who get handsy, think all dancers are whores, don't spend money etc? They suck.

I've also waitressed too and I feel the same way about customers there. Nice people are great, jerks aren't. Actually I felt this way on any service based job I ever had.

I was hoping that I could avoid this, but a certain person persists in posting absurd rumors and thoroughly discredited allegations, in this and other threads, as though they had some vague relationship with reality.

    They don’t.

The smart dancers figured out right away that it was not true. In the three years since, I’ve had dinner and drinks in restaurants with dozens of SW dancers, visited them in clubs, sat in their hotel rooms while they laughed about how manipulative and transparent her attempts were to drag them into telling “their own stories,” insisting to them that it “didn’t make any difference if it was true or not,” just what could they give her? Yes, it didn’t make any difference if it were true or not. Like that wasn’t going to eventually get out, especially since she actually wrote that in PMs and e-mails.

A handful of girls out of the thirty or so she asked repeatedly (the rest turned her down flat) eventually took the bait, wanting to be one of the cool girls on the other site, yet they apparently forgot that they had – since any purported awful event – been in warm and familiar communication with me in writing, or had invited me to see them (oops), or actually come out to see me (double oops). The most prominent one had been unmasked as a liar and manipulator by Dottie herself in the NYC Stripperfest thread on the site six months prior.

The whole thing would have never exploded in the first place if anybody on SW knew about the money – about the enormous sums she was demanding from me, in writing, so she could quit dancing.

Everybody would have understood exactly what was going on then.

There is a reason Pryce’s thread is called “Dottie’s Accusation.” That’s all it was. Those with access to the actual electronic records, or signed travel receipts or public camera records (yes they exist) or who kept their PMs from years ago (I have a 1,000 message capacity in-box, so this is easy to do) can see a pattern emerge over time. And that pattern was unmistakable.

Some errors did creep in. Dottie asked to meet me, both times, in DC and NYC, not the other way around. I have the PMs. This was a strong-and-fast rule with me, as it was “club rules” – dancers decide.

Life does go on, and sometimes in unexpected ways.

Katrine and I had dinner and drinks in Austin, where she apologized for her behavior and expressed regret at being permabanned from the site.

Bridgette texts me now and then, sometimes to share events in her life, sometimes to pee on me, depending on how she feels that day. (Oh, I should say that I mean that figuratively). I’ve always liked her, even as she was forever ripping me a new one, and the post record will show that I tried endlessly to talk her out of leaving the site, which she was doing for reasons that had nothing to do with me. She and I had co-hosted the first Vegas Stripperfest where we all met Pryce for the first time. Ah, those were the days.

Thankfully, SW has grown and become much more stable since then. I’ve adjusted my own posting behavior to omit things that were once considered very controversial and have tried to focus my posts on constructive contributions.

Wow. As far as personal attacks, I'm shocked- and that's saying something. Looks like practicing what you preach has gone out the window.

For the record, TOO is one of the kindest, gentlest, most generous people I've had the pleasure of knowing. I've been thrilled he is posting, and his contributions have been constructive. Bringing up years old conflict without any instigation is not only rude, it's precipitating falsehoods that could be again detrimental to the community.

    Without instigation? Really?

I'm sorry if it comes across as shocking -- and I regret even having to post this, as it's in response to persistent false accusations posted right here that needed to be addressed, at least once.

(And that's not even close to all of it. Not by a long shot. There's a huge volume of information I'm leaving out to honor certain confidences.)

Edited to add: I've modified the original post to address some of (what I think are) Med's concerns. I'd be happy to remove the entire post and this one as well if the false accusations are removed.
