Default Basic photo editing tutorials

For people who would like more tutorials and tutorials in other programs plus tutorials for video and HTML there are great ones in MzStar's group here: http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/group.php?groupid=46

Now that we've covered that there is an interest in basic photo editing tutorials I've started filming them. The first is just up and I'll be adding one a week. If you think of other things you'd like to know or if you'd like to make a tutorial yourself, let me know.

BlankStare's awesome posts on layers and borders further down in the thread:

Ooooh, that's a tough one and it'll take some time. If you can send me a pic w/the tat clearly visible I'll make it but it's a more advanced tutorial so it'll be at the end of the list, probably right after skin.

My quick and easy tutorial for enhacing photos in photoshop.

    1. Open image you wish to edit.
    2. In the layers pallette, click on the layer of the photo and drag down the the duplicate layer button.
    3. On top layer set the blending to overlay.
    4. Still click on the top layer, now goto filter --> gaussian blur
    5. I usually set this at about 2.9 pixels...

Now you can mess around with the top layers opacity and set it at how you like
    voila!

Default Quick tutorial on editing photos/working with layers

***this had to be broken up into three parts***

I wanted to do a quick tutorial for the cammers that would like to know how to work with layers and edit their photos fairly easily. I'm going to use pixlr.com because it's the easiest to use for beginners, and requires no download.

A 'layer' is exactly that.. an image on top of an image. If you are using a photo of yourself.. and you just want to add a pretty border or some sparkle or maybe even some pretty font.. make sure that these images are .PNG images with a transparent background.

If you want a border google image search "white border .png" or whatever kind you like.

I'm just going to use a model stock photo for example:

Open your base photo into pixlr.com. This will be the background image. Do any adjustments you would like to this photo.. such as contrast, brightness, vignette, soft glow, etc. to make it look the way you want.

Then find a .png border image (if that's what you want.. I use Google images to find .png's), right click it, and select 'copy image URL'. Then you will go to File > Open Image URL.

a box will come up.. paste the image link into that box. your border image should show up next to your photo. You will now resize the border to fit your picture. My background picture is size 567x378 so I will need to resize the border image to fit this.
But here is what you should have so far:

you will then select your border image by clicking it, and then going up to IMAGE > SIZE then mess around with the sizes a little before it looks like it will fit your background (base) picture. In this case, I resized the border to 520x428.

    part TWO

Select the lasso tool with your border image still selected in the front and draw a big circle around the whole border image and then right click copy. Then, bring your base image to the front by clicking it... then right click paste.

after pasting the border on top (the border will be layer1) you can erase/recolor the border without affecting the background image:

and if you'd like to add text or something.. I like using cooltext.com myself.. create the text logo you would like, then right click > copy the text image. Then go to pixlr.com and go to Layer > Open image URL as Layer:

    *****************
    Part Three

After pasting your layer image URL.. you can click the selection tool to move the top layer around to where you would like it to be, maybe crop the picture if you like.. and voila! you've got yourself a cool picture with layers.

This tutorial is obviously for beginners, but it's really fun to play around with this to make it work for you. But if anyone has any questions I'll be happy to help as best I can.

But this is something basic that you will need in order to really edit your own pictures, and also make graphics of your own. Happy photo editing!

wanted to add this in... in the first part I said you can edit your picture (contrast, curves, filters, etc) *before* adding the border. You can still do this.. but I would make sure that you also edit the contrast/curves at the end to make sure the border blends in with the rest of the picture.

Also (I've f'ed up on this multiple times when I was first learning layers), once you get a hold of the basics.. make sure you make a background copy, and use a different layer (*just click the 'new layer' button beneath your other layers in the little box there on the right*) for EVERY edit you do to your picture. This way.. if you put 20 or 30 minutes of editing into your picture.. and you mess up on just one little thing.. you can just delete the layer you messed up on without screwing all of your previous edits.

Thank you for posting this tutorial! There's another thread for tutorials that would be good to attach this to, so that we can have all the information in the same place.

    http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=165679

You may also want to join MzStar's group for people who do image and video editing and post it there as well. The link to the group is in the above thread.

I'll ask the mods to combine the threads

I was using Picasa to edit photos - basic - simple program - worked well for my skill level - i could do most of the things mentioned above with Picasa and "Creative Kit" ( which it what is no longer there in the same version ) - the other day I loaded Picasa onto my sisters computer and it was a newer version - I saw a couple of features at a glance that looked cool and when I got home I upgraded mine - unfortunately it took one of the main features I used away - it said it was no longer supported blah blah - I am sick - so my question - can I restore my computer back to before I did the upgrade and get it back or is it gone forever

I looked at pixlr.com as mentioned above and it is no where near as simple as Picasa - if no chance to restore and get it back does anyone have a suggestion of another SIMPLE editing program

edited - it was called Picnik and it says it is no longer in existence

wawawawa - so while whining I started looking and will now partly answer my own question - ribbet.com is almost identical to the features of Picnik but with more features available than what was available without the paid membership on Picasa - a couple more interesting seemingly easy to use sites I found are - befunky.com and picmonkey.com - i haven't tried the last two but they looked easy -

anywho would still like to have my original back
