Default What's Your Secret for Losing Weight?

This is a thread about sharing your "secret" for losing weight. So feel free in sharing what helps you lose weight so others can benefit and also lose weight.

I'll go first: I maintain my normal body weight by eating only 2 moderate meals a day(breakfast and dinner) and exercising for 15 minutes on a daily basis. This works for me.

My mom and grandma both swear by not eating past 4:00pm.

Uh-huh, my mom keeps forcing this idea on me. Since I wake up at 1-2 pm most days, sure it'd help, I'd just be literally starving all day. Something she can't quite comprehend, lol.

Absolutely never wheat, bread, or pasta.

    Little to no corn products.

    Little to no potato products.

    No sugar.

Well Im pretty lucky I can loose weight by just working out vigorously every day for an hour. But in general I look my best when I eat 4-5x a day only eating fresh veggies and meat... no sugar at all not even fruit or some veggies that contain sugars. Only drink water. If I do this I only need to work out about twice I week. I get to a weight I like but most guys think I look too skinny.

Being really busy! I'm literally home 45 mins in the morning before work, and 3 hours before I go to bed at night. I've sworn off alcohol, high fructose corn syrup, and eating pasta never crosses my mind. I started eating meat again and I think that helps me stay full as well.

Some people might think this is sick, but I won't buy clothes over a certain size. If I ever need a size up, time to trim down not buy new shit.

I think that's the point though... Its like a calorie-deficit diet that's easy to follow.

This is the best advice, I do this too. Some people just seem too comfortable to buy the next size up but that soon turns into the next size and the next size and one day you wake up wearing size 24 jeans... Realising your jeans are getting tight and upping the gym/healthy eating for a couple of days is way easier than loosing 30kg!

At this point, fertility (pregnancy and breastfeeding). Maybe things will change in 10 years when I'm likely to be done having kids (hopefully!), but since I started having little tax deductions and breastfeeding them, my biggest problem remains not losing too much weight.

Before the kid thing, I went paleo/pastoral (yay meat, yay lifting giant rocks, yay raw dairy basically), and I still am in terms of what my exercise and diet are. You take a few hunting trails along a mountainside with a stroller and carrier, you'll be in energy deficit no problem, even if you eat a whole coho salmon sauteed in pastured butter afterwards. Also you will scare/horrify the other hikers, lol.

Oh! Drink a full glass of water before meals. This ensures that a) You aren't confusing hunger and thirst and b) You will eat smaller portions.

Burn more calories than you eat. Your choices are many. You can eat less, exercise more, eat differently, exercise differently, or eat more, exercise much more. Just depends on your disposition.

For me, I bike, swim and run. I do one or the other four to five days a week for an hour each day. On the eating front, I really avoid deserts, which are my favorites. Only one desert a week. Otherwise, I eat "healthy." Lots of organic foods, lots of veggies that I grow in my garden. I've even taken to canning green beans and peas so I know what's in them.

My daughter is running cross country this fall. I've been helping coach her team. I've gotten my 5K time down to 22 minutes. She is seven and runs it in 27, so far, so good. Her head coach runs the 5K in 15 minutes. That's my goal for this time next year.

Oh I thought of something else I do...

I always take cut up veggies as snacks when I'm out and about/going to uni/work etc. Like I'll cut up carrot sticks or capsicum or take snow peas. That way I don't get tempted by fatty foods (like the vending machine at work at 3am) and when I get home I'm not starving so don't overeat.

The basics are input minus exercise but the only thing I would like to share is; everybody is different & try to learn your system & how it works.

    - Avoid sugar

Working. I find it difficult to stay at my low healthy weight unless I'm working. Work means I'm away from food for 8 hours a night, then asleep for another 8, so I only have 8 hours in which to eat my meals. I eat 600kcal during the day, and leave 600 for drink calories at work. If I don't use them then I eat them when I get home. 1200 a day no stress.

Good jeebus. I'm probably shaving 10 years off my life with my unhealthy eating habbits, but I'm glad I don't have to adhere to any of these rules to be thin (for now atleast!)

You ladies are amazing machines for being able to follow such strict dietary rules!

    - I 100% agree on no wheat, potatoes, corn, grains.

    - But I disagree on the no sugar thing. I was off sugar completely for some time and felt I retained water and had slow transit time. Fruit is important; humans are one of the only creatures that can't make their own vitamin C and we need it!

    - It's all about hydration and digestion early. Having blended food before noon (usually watermelon, greens, and avocado blended or young coconut with greens) sets me up for a good day and the fiber keeps me full.

-I also follow food combining and swear by it. Since I don't eat a lot of starches it's easy; just have my meat with veggies only.

-On days when it's freezing or I feel reeeeaaallllly hungry and like I want something carby and warm I'll cheat a little with quinoa or a sweet potato.

-But -- to summarize -- blended fruit and greens early. Detox assistance like lemon water and milk thistle. Two small meals (more fruit then veggies and meat) or one big one later.

    - If I'm hungry I try to listen to my cravings; if I ignore them I set myself up for a binge!

    Oh yeah.

I'm 5'8" and fluctuate between 115 and 118 lbs with a lot of tone. Yoga (sometimes hot) 2-4x week, running and jump rope 1-3x/week, dancing.

That was my plan back in the day. Now that I'm retired I've put on 20-25 lb that I can't shake. Just sayin, no judgement, but that's what happens on a plan like this.

I eat whatever, but only in moderation. I work graveyard at my normal job, so I keep a bag of miniature Dove chocolates (they're richer than Hershey's and seem like a treat) and I'll have one or two when everyone else hits the vending machines. I stick to 1000cals/day 6 days a week and allow myself one day of 1800-2000cals that I can choose in case I'm going somewhere special or to a party/event. I'm not dancing (looking to start soon) so I exercise like a fiend. I'm recovering from knee surgery and have permission to do all the low impact cardio I can handle, so I do 45mins on the elliptical, 45mins on the stationary bike or rowing machine, and 30 minutes of light weights five days a week. I also horseback ride, which is good for core strength, and work with my horse and animals a lot, so I'm often outdoors doing stuff which doesn't feel like exercise. I try to stay away from boxed/frozen meals, except the Amy's brand which are a little healthier. I cook almost everything I eat myself, so sometimes I make too much and make my own frozen dinners to control the sodium and preservatives. I live for fruit and have it for breakfast every day with scrambled egg whites, low cal/low fat whole wheat french toast, or oatmeal with nuts. I stay away from reg and diet sodas, but drink seltzer still for the fizz. I love love love all types of teas, so I have tea often without sweetener. Since I go for special flavors or types of tea it helps to not drown the flavor in syrupy-sugar.

Yeah I put on 5lb ish when I'm not working but only if I'm in a relationship. If I'm single I stick to 1200kcal but spread through the whole day and mostly from healthy food (oatmeal, lots of fish and lean meat and vegetables). Relationships screw me over as I like cooking for my man and he likes meat, dairy and carbs.
