    Thumbs up DIY Eyelash extensions

I have heard feedback from many that have gotten lash extensions at the salon as i was considering having them done. I'm a natural blonde and have blonde, nearly invisible lashes. The general consensus was they were not worth the $300 price. So I bought a kit from Sally's, Ardell, and did my own. Great results and they last DAYS! Even after using my makeup remover and washing my face, showering, etc. I do have a cluster fall off now and then which is easily replaced. I hate wearing mascara since it flakes and breaks off my natural lashes and no matter how well I remove it, I always wake up with mascara under my eyes.

These look great and it's wonderful looking a little "done" sans make up.

Hey, thanks for the tip! I always wondered about that, I hear about lash extension mascara, but not kits! I'm gonna try this!

I've used these kits a few times when I haven't had time to make an appt at a salon.

There's an Ardell one available with great shaped lashes (thicker at one end, thicker at the other) but really crappy glue (2-3 days max on me).

You can buy the individual lashes on ebay for extremely cheap, but check the shape - you'll want a 13-15mm length and a J curl, with a thicker "base" and a thinner end. You'll want to buy professional lash glue ($30-50 but it'll last forever) to apply them with, none of this cheapie Ardell stuff.

You can also bond drugstore individual lash flares to your lashes (the ones that are cluster and not really individual) and they look good too.

I stopped using lash extensions because I love the "done-up" look of lash bands and it's not the same look at all (but I like my toes/toes red or french and LONG, always wear [email protected] and wish I could pull off red lipstick SOOO badly, so take that for what it is).

Curious what y'all are referring to... I could NEVER get those stupid drugstore clump lashes to work. They'd go on but orient themselves in different ways, if that makes sense, so my eyes would turn out looking like they had furry clumps in them instead of lashes. Plus I too found that cheap glue to be worthless- much worse than the glue for strip lashes (which I can slap on in no time and last for a day or two).

You're talking about flare lashes - I hate them too, but for someone who likes subtlety and is patient they can work. You can even buy a better glue and have them on for a few weeks at a time.
    The flares look like this:

What we're talking about is the new Ardell eyelash extension kit:

They're singular eyelashes, with an adhesive kinda sucks and a remover.

Eyelash extensions can be done in nicer, longer lasting, more cost effective ways:

Kits like this are all over ebay. I paid $6 and got 600 lashes.
With glues like Lash by Francesca (or something similar) those suckers are staying on so well! And you can customize how you want your eyes to look....

Awesome, thanks for the Ebay tip! I'll def be looking into better glue.

And I still wear my false lashes with my extensions since the extensions are more "in" the lash line and the band goes just above.

For those who are struggling with applying lash extensions....

It took me a while to get the skill down, especially on my left eye. Also, I had trouble figuring out the way to get the most natural yet dramatic look.

    So...

I buy the kits with multiple lengths, including small, medium and long. I have almond shaped eyes, so your eyes may be different, but anyway. I use:

3 short on the outer corner, working in.

3 long, with the bands closely placed together so the lashes are overlapping.

6 medium to make up the base of the eye.

2 short on the inner corner, for a total of 15 on each eye.

Depends on how many times you've done it. It used to take me about 2 hours, but I've got it down to 20 minutes on each eye.

Wow, that long? Are you using tweezers? use tweezers and dip the flares into a spot of glue that has sat for 2 minutes, and it should take you no more than 5 mins to do both eyes.
The extensions look neat, I'm going to have to take a look at them. People think my eyes are natural with the flares I can only imagine the effect that these would have. Thanks

Farrah can you recommend anything in particular to remove the lashes. They were driving me nuts the other day so I decided to take them off for a couple days since it had been about a week. I used the remover it came with but ma...n it was like pulling off acrylic nails!!

My poor eyelids were swollen and tender. I found it was actually easier to kinda scrape them off with my nail. youch.

Just to make sure, did you attach them to the actual eyelash or to the skin of your eyelid? They can be VERY irritating if the glue dries on your skin, so only attach them to your actual eyelash hairs.

Anyway... I love the Ardell flares. Tried the individual ebay lashes, too (in a C curl), but they were really hard to get "straight," I had them jutting out all over the place... and it took a lot longer because you have to do each individual hair. Might try them again though, seeing as you guys got them to work.

Wonder if there are any youtube tutorials about this?

My skin! There is a tutorial on the review for the Ardell flares at Sallysbeauty.com and in the video it says to attach to your lid not your lashes. OMG I couldn't image attaching them to my lashes and trying to get them off My eyes would be bald.
