Default Making the Most Out of Your Tattoos

So i have a lot of tattoos but the one thing I regret is I don't necessarily consider them art. I got them at a rebellious and immature phase I was going through a few years ago.

    1. Basic cross on my right shoulder blade.....it's nothing special about it
    2. Only God Can Judge Me with praying hands on my left shoulder blade (#1 of 3 favorites)
    3. Daughters full name with about 4 or 5 footprints and her birthday in the middle of my back between my shoulder blade (the footprints are pretty big and basically "walk" up my back).
    4. Little brother's name in the very middle of my back (IT'S HUGE AND I HATE IT!!!)
    5. Angel Wings that go around his name and all the way down to wear my back connects to my ass. (They look ok, but again I hate them!)
    6. A fairy on my right side (#2 of my 3 favorites)
    7. Chinese symbol behind my left ear that is "ming ming" which means little sister (#3 of 3 favorites)
    8. my zodiac symbol which is capricorn on my right front side of my shoulder area (It's not bad, but I could do without it)
    9. 2 doves on my hip/stomach that aren't as dark as they used to be from getting stretched out when I was pregnant (again I could do without these also).
    10. A star on my right hand between thumb and pointer finger.

Any advice on how to make the most out of tattoos I'm not thrilled about?? I know tattoos can sometimes put a damper in your earnings. Although I won't be in a very classy club. Most clubs in Atlanta aren't classy except for Pink Pony and there's no way I would even think about going there

According to your other thread, you're going for pin up, so I think the tattoos will compliment that soft, super sexy feminine look quite nicely... I say embrace them!

Bad tattoos are why coverups were invented. I covered a shitty tattoo I got at age 18 with a gorgeous new tattoo that gets tons of compliments. You sound like you'd be a good candidate for a back piece. Do your research, find a talented artist skilled at coverups and turn your tatts into something you're proud of.

Believe me I've been looking and then get discouraged when they tell me it could cost me about $3000- $4000
But it is something I've wanted for a LONG time. Oh well I guess I just have to start saving and getting it done a little at a time.

You think so? I hope it will, but I definitely try. It just bothers me when customers ask me about them and I feel like i have to explain the story behind every tattoo. LMAO half the time I just want to be like "shut up dude and let me dance."

3000? wtf? oh no girl go to somebody else. coverups should be around the same price you paid for it originally!

I know that has to get ultra annoying!

But you were wise to choose a pinup persona since they're expected to have tattoos..

I, on the other hand, have a supermodel stripper persona, so tattoos don't really go with my 'look'. I only have one; it's very small and in an inconspicuous area so guys rarely notice/comment on it. A few times I've even had comments like, "Wow, you don't have ANY tattoos!" Although it's rarely seen, the fact is, like yours, it has little to no meaning to me and, therefore, I hate it!

Since I only have one and it's small, stupid, and totally out-of-character for me, I usually just make a joke about it ... Usually I get, "Hey, I didn't know you had a tattoo!" and I'll go, "Nooo.. that's not a tattoo, it's a bruise/birthmark!" and hurry to cover it up. They'll try to move my hand to see what it is, I'll tell them the story of how I drew it out, got it done, thought it was SO COOL and it ended up being SO LAME.. we both laugh at my stupidity and this uses up a couple of minutes of that terrible small talk we have to make before starting the lapdances..

But I have soo many individual tattoos that I need to cover up with one BIG back piece. Plus I knew the man who did my tattoos and he charged me dirt cheap but isn't in town anymore.

LMAO I'm going to try that. Basically just sum it all up with my stupidity got the best of me for a while.

Do you really want the man who gave you all these tattoos you don't like or want anymore to give you another one that spans your entire back? Good tattoos aren't cheap, and cheap tattoos aren't good. Start saving and get it done right so that you're not ashamed of your body art (maybe then you'll even consider it that). And to make the cost seem less daunting: consider the fact that the average life expectancy is in the 80s. Assuming you're in your 20s, that gives you 60 years (or 21900 days) with your new tattoo. Divide the cost of the tattoo by that, and even a $3000 tattoo is only costing you $50/year or 14c/day. Of course, $3000 does sound a little steep, but I suppose it depends on the size, detail and time required of the tattoo, and the popularity and skills of the artist. Point is, find an artist whose portfolio matches the vision you have of your tattoo and save.

I completely agree! I would never go back to him even if he decided to come back to town. I can save for a couple years and get it for my 25th birthday. I have 3 years to save considering I will be 22 in December.

I have one shitty tattoo that I keep around for one reason: no one knows what it is. It's hilarious when people say, "is that a fish/chili pepper/feather?" And I say "it can be whatever you want it to be!"

Second, I had one equally shitty tattoo covered with a huge armpiece that I LOVE! I get daily compliments on it and only paid around 400.

Those are pretty much your two options: be light hearted about it or have it covered.

So true. I have a little tattoo on my ankle that was supposed to be part of a 5-piece tattoo set I had planned out, then I thought better of it, decided to just turn it into a 2-piece set instead, but am now rethinking it... and I go back and forth on it so I continue to just have this one little retarded tattoo on my ankle without any real meaning to it, because it won't have meaning until it's part of a set of some sort... buuuuut I can't decide on which set lol! So trying to explain all that to a customer would just sound... ugh. So I usually just say it was a birthday present from my sister years ago (true) and that I got it to symbolize her (not true, but a good story) haha. So I wouldn't try to explain every tattoo - I agree it just ends up sounding awkward.

DONT'T Get cover ups. Unless you are really into tattoos and just want better quality but it sounds to me like you are regretting your tattoos in general. I got a big cover up done and although it's BEAUTIFUL and I get tons of compliments....It doesn't change the fact that I still don't want it. So now it will take me twice as long to remove. I have started the removal process for several of my tattoos including 1/2 of my sleeve. It took me YEARS to find the right person for this job.
She happens to be the wife of a tattoo artist. She works out of a plastic surgeons office and uses top of the line lasers. She showed me a removal she did on herself as well as a sleeve she removed on her hubby. It is quite possible to remove tattoos and can be quicker than you might think especially if the tattoo is smaller and black/grey.

I suggest finding a laser removal tech through a tattoo shop (I found mine at a tattoo convention) People in the tattoo industry understand what it takes to remove a lot or extremely large tattoos and charge WAY less then plastic surgeons. Dr's and PS's fees are so outrageous I could barely afford to remove a knuckle tattoo :-/

Good luck with whatever you choose and remember if you choose the cover up route, the piece you get will be larger and darker and much harder to remove if you do not like it later on.

Well it all depends on how easy the ixisting tattoos are to work with for a cover up, if her tattoos are really dark and huge it'll be a nightmare for even a good artist to cover. She's talking her whole back, I have the lower section of my back done and it costed 300 so yes it ads up.
