Default Emergency credit card for Thailand...advice pls

My husband wants us to have a emergency credit card (ECC) with a 10k limit for our trip OS when I get my boobs done. I have taken out insurance to cover us both and I plan on getting cosmetic surgery insurance too.
Is he being realistic? What are the risks/benefits of getting the ECC?
Can you cancel the card as soon as you get back home or lower the limit? I don't trust the bank to be transparent with answers whih is why I am asking you guys?
please help, the thought of going into debt scares the hell out of me and I have never owned a CC for fear of putting myself in the proverbial.

I think it's a good idea as long as there are no fees. You can cancel the card when you get back or you can just cut it up into pieces. Owning a credit card is a good idea so you can establish credit. If you're worried about running up debt, just use it for basic things like gasoline and groceries.
