    Default Broken Foot? Now what?

First chapped lips, now this :-(

I slammed my foot against the door a few weeks ago - hurt like hell, but I thought I just broke my small toe & things would be fine. Unfortunately, it hasn't gotten better & I think I really broke it. I'm seeing a Podiatrist tomorrow ....

Anyone ever break a foot or toe? What should I expect?

(sigh ... years of dance & gymnastics, no problem. Walking around a new place = broken foot)

I broke my foot in early 2010 because some stupid drunk bitch dropped a helium tank on it. I would not suggest you do what I did, which is drink a bottle of Cuervo and set your own foot.

I worked on it, but didn't do stage for six weeks. It turned all kinds of crazy colours and hurt like shit in the morning. Now, you can't tell it was ever broken. Don't push it, if you can't work on it let it rest. Expect 6-8 weeks for recovery

Seconding mediocrity. I've broken toes several times in the past, and it can be a bitch. I've never worked with one, except the time I broke it at work and finished my shift, because I'd rather not risk the extra damage. A lot of things can go wrong with improper healing, particularly deformation of the bone.

Hope everything goes well at the podiatrist. Remember to listen very carefully to his advice on healing and especially listen to what your body tells you. If he says six to eight weeks but you feel ready in five, just take it slowly and don't push the injury.

I broke my foot about 7 weeks ago, definitely could't walk on it after. Was on crutches for 6 weeks with a walking boot, now just in the boot and can walk around but another 5 weeks before I can go back to work It sucks but it's better than screwing your foot up completely, if you're young and healthy it should heal quicker. There are so many bones in the foot it can vary depending on where the break is (mine is in an unusual spot and right near a major ligament so if I fuck it up I'll need surgery).

Arnica will help with the bruising, a pressure sock will help with the swelling. If you can find someone with a comfrey plant mush up the leaves and put that on it to help it heal.

Good luck! I totally feel your pain right now.

Well, could be worse. It's fractured, but not broken - won't be healed until January 2012, though.

Time for some bed-rest with movies and Chardonnay!

AmishGirl, I wish you a healthy recovery! Take care of yourself.

It's our feet especially that can be taken most advantage of and are integral for dancers. I twisted my ankle 7 weeks ago and it's still swollen- I'm told by my MD that it won't be entirely healed for a year. But if I don't care for it and be easy on myself, it can turn into a life-long injury.

Wow! That long? I fractured my small toe a few months ago. I was told to ice it and tape it. I usually dance in 5in go-go boots, so I just taped it and wore thicker socks. I took maybe 5 days off work. It healed fine. You'll be fine.

^ Corey, you're s lucky you only had to take a few days off. There's so many tiny bones in the foot and recovery time can differ wildly depending on where exactly the fracture is, it's severity and the general health of the person in question. I know people who've broken toes and not even noticed, where my fracture is if I'm not careful and it gets worse it will effect the way my whole foot operates.

Play it safe and follow your doctor's advice.

Those high heel shoes look pretty painful. Why not try wearing shoes with lower heels?

Lots of clubs have height minimums. All the clubs I worked at had a min 6in rule.

It was my doctor that told me to tape it because you can't put a cast on a toe.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

I did not realize that clubs required strippers to wear high heel shoes. It seems unfair to strippers; especially those who are uncomfortable in high heels and have some sort of injuries.

How is it unfair? A dancer wouldn't go on stage in jeans, would she? As my signature mentions, it's part of the uniform. Some clubs will be nice enough to let you go up in flats at the end of the night if you have a good reason to (like the night I hurt my toe and only had on more stage set before we closed)

It's just kind of tacky and not the image one expects of a strip club. You wouldn't let an obviously intoxicated man drive your company truck or place pornographic ads for a church, would you? It's an image thing.
