    Duh The Price of Pleasure

Argh! I'm watching this documentary right now! I'm only 15 minutes in and I already want to kill everything. I can't remember where I saw the rec', but it was a woman in the industry and she said that this doc was "eye-opening" and making her reconsider a lot of things. I thought it was going to give some insight from the POV of the people who WORK in this industry, but no. So far, all I've gotten are thinly veiled judgements ("sex was once shameful, but now it's normalized and mainstream!" "There was this guy that made a really disgusting porno and he also directed videos for your favorite popstars!"), random college students bellyaching about how sexuality makes them uncomfortable, and false correlations. I actually had to pause the movie and suppress a scream of rage at this guy having the gall to suggest that women turn to working in porn because they're paid less in the vanilla world and don't have any other shot at being wealthy. Dear lord above...

Has anyone else watched this movie? If you have an opinion that's contrary to mine (especially since I haven't finished it yet), please share. If you have a similar one, also share.

ETA: Finished it. Didn't tell me anything I didn't already know (male sexual psychology primarily leans towards them being in power in a very aggressive and violent manner and YES this can be a problem when it comes to those men forming these preferences yet being with women who aren't into that). There was one former adult performer that they interviewed and she was bitter about having been a cam girl as a "last resort" in college because retail didn't pay enough. But yep. Just more outsiders wanting to get soundbites from producers and talking to people who have an issues with what they find arousing. :/ This documentary was all over the place. They touched on the subject of porn being used in grooming for child abuse and posted a small clip from a therapy meetings and then...moved on to something else. Not sure what they were trying to say except "pornography is bad, mmmkay?"

(just looked it up some more. was made in 2008 which may explain why almost 4 years after the fact, I'm not miffed?)

Oh boy, I was about to watch this documentary now I'm having second thoughts..
I guess curiosity will get the better of me, but from what youve said I'm doubting I'll make it through the whole thing before I turn it off.

I think someone from the adult industry themselves needs to make a documentary. And interview happy, well adjusted workers in the adult industry. THATS the eye opening the vanilla world needs..

I absolutely agree. YES, this job has it's pitfalls and I don't mind people talking about them, but this doom and gloom crap is getting ridiculous. I get that they wanted to play the "porn causes rape because it glorifies aggressive objectification during sex" card that anti-pornographers like to play and I see the correlation, but ultimately, what about personal responsibility? I strongly believe that if people weren't made to feel that sexuality is shameful, this industry would be A LOT different. I know how I was growing up when I had to fight what felt right and what society dictated was appropriate. It fucks with your head in a bad way, fighting with yourself for the sake of everyone else like that.

Anyway, I wouldn't recommend giving it a watch unless you're in the mood to be angry and disappointed. It's just a retread of the old agenda with no point except to say that p0rn iz daynjerus derp derp derp.

It was a horrible film. They talk about how oversexualized we are becoming yet play porn footage every 5 min. Also the woman is always the victim once again overlooking gay porn actors and what they go through. This double standard in society will never die. You wanna make an eye opening film about adult industry. Stop telling everyone they will make a ton of money and be successful....but u should be ashamed!! Ok but not everyone makes a ton of money working in the adult industry, or becomes known at all. If u give women realistic view of how it is maybe women would go into it realistically instead of "oh boy I'm gonna make a million dollars" attitude then be disappointed when they realize u have to work hard to achieve that.

This is why I just stay away from anything that discusses the sex industry - I can't watch Tyra or Doctor Phil or whoever-the-fuck-else wants to interview porn stars and camgirls and try to "make them see the light." I just can't handle the stupidity... so I choose to stay in my own little world where I don't have these peoples' idiotic comments rolling around in my head whenever I'm trying to stay positive.
