Default How much did you make?

How much money did you make in the first few months during camming? First year? Second year? And how many hours a week during these times?

Just curious to hear about other peoples experiences. On one hand, I hear it's lucrative, on the other hand I hear people talk about how hard it is. I know it's not easy, it will be work (like ANY job), there will be a lot of crap to put up with, but I am young, attractive, determined, and I'd have a good personality/be able to sell myself.

How much time would you say you spend advertising yourself compared to doing a show, on average?

I'm not sure that my answer will be relevant since I started camming over 4 years ago. I know 4 years doesn't sound like a lot but in the terms of the camming world it really is. For one there weren't as many big cam sites and the ones that were around were basically flooded with foreign models - and most of the high paying clients are american and they prefer models that english is their first language.

When I started I'd almost always would have to juggle at least 30 guys messaging at once. I've always been indy - not big sites. I only worked 1 indy site and could login at any point in time and make about $200 without trying too hard or working many hours. I wish I could go back in time with what I know now. I'd basically work - make $800 or so and call the rest of the week done. I didn't try hard at all. Sometimes I'd make $1500 in a day and spend the rest of the week doing whatever. If I had of taken it more seriously - I would have been really well off. My first year of camming I think I started in June or so - I made about 27k from June - Jan. Not fantastic but I was going to school full time and I was also keeping my waitressing job - I had friends and wasn't sure if I'd continue camming full time. Now about 4 years later I work 2 sites mainly I set a goal of $1k a week. Sometimes I go over sometimes I don't make that. I started the beginning of the year working REALLY hard making about $2-3k a week because I was going to buy a house. I bought it in August. Since October I've not worked quite as hard but its also been slower so I'm at my regular 1k a week. I typically don't work Friday, Sat or much of sunday. I try to work Sunday nights but its typically slow on sundays. If you set a goal of $200 a day for 5 days it should be a pretty easy goal.

Every model is different. It will all depend on your looks and personality. In my opinion - personality is more important than looks. You've got to market yourself where you fit best.
Don't try to spread yourself thin- you'll get too over whelmed and stressed out. Find somewhere to start, find a couple of places to market yourself, maybe make some videos and sell them (be sure to watermark them with your url so that if they do get spammed at least its free advertising and they'll remember where to find you when they're watching it) sell some items . In other words create a fan base. Get your routine down and get comfy on cam. Then branch out to more if you need to. Don't set unrealistic goals.

Also, I made the mistake when I started out in investing too much. As in I went out and bought so much stuff. Outfits, shoes, toys, makeup. The best thing to invest in is a good cam, lighting - one or two really attractive outfits that are comfortable and easy to get in and out of. If you don't already have heels buy 1 or 2 pair but search online - I found a site (don't remember where but I can look it up) that was selling shoes like what I'd just spent $100+ for around $20. And have a toy or two to start with - but make sure its one your like or won't mind using repeatedly. I only use realistic style toys if someone is a regular big spender but if you're new you might have to be willing to use it right off the bat.

I'm sure you already have a good idea of what to do but camgirls usually are happy to help other camgirls.

The answers won't be accurate as girls today make wayyyy less than they did 2+ years ago. The longer the industry moves forward, the less girls will make on average. That's true with any industry. However, if you build up regulars, your income should be steady or perhaps may increase.

But it's like everything: there are girls who don't take this seriously and just do it for a while. You also need to know how to promote yourself and build a regular fanbase. It takes time and effort. There ARE girls who are making from 2k to 5k a month, or maybe more. It took them a LONG time to achieve that and hard work, as well as intelligence. But I'm pretty sure you can find good resources here.

I plan on doing this independently...at least that is what I'm going to attempt. I've heard it's difficult, more difficult then doing a big cam site, but I'm going to try it anyway, I have nothing to loose really. I'm going to really focus on social networking: blogs, twitter, chat rooms, forums, facebook, etc...I think things will be really slow at first but my hope is that within a few months I'll find guys who come back. I don't expect to make a lot during the first year.

In addition. I'm trying to find a lawyer to talk to about the 2257 compliance thing. My main concerns are 1. chargebacks and 2. if I have my own domain, how to protect my personal info if somebody hacks into it. I'm still doing research in that regard, but if anybody has information on that, it would be awesome. I've been doing loads of research and I hope to start everything in Jan.

Also I just want to add. I'm def not against working for a cam site, but I wouldn't know which one to start at. I don't want the site to come up on a background check either (I'm guessing it's possible for the 2257 thing to as well though). Any information in this regard would be great.

I think you should start working for a site like Streamate and later, as you acquire experience, go indie. The problem with starting indie is that you'll have to work harder to build a fan base. You can literally build a fan base easier using Streamate (or other sites) and promote yourself online, be it on porn forums, 4chan and other marketing channels.

Remember: bulding a fan/regulars base is important.

As of sites, Streamate is good. I've heard good thinks about AdultWork as well. There are many others, though.

I am one of the veterans in camming since I have been here for 8 years... my 9 year anniversary will be this next April. When I first started camming everything was done through Paypal and Yahoo and I could easily make 300$ a day and I was also on dial up. This was hella good money for me so I never pushed myself any harder and I didn't really need to because they basically just chunked money at you.

Now I have been in the industry for 8 years but I have not cammed every day for 8 years. I have taken long breaks like 3-6 months at a time and just focused on my family (I have 3 kids) but I have always had my hand in something.

I focus a lot of my efforts of videos, my membership site, and I have a sweet gig doing fetish porn so basically I always make atleast 2000$ a month even if I don't do anything at all that month...seriously. Now that I am camming again I set my goal for 500$ a week and that is pretty damn easy to make so here in a month I should be up to 4000$ a month. 500$ a week may not be much to most of you but considering I have money coming in elsewhere and I only have 3 hours a day to cam, I don't need to push for anymore than that. I enjoy spending time with my kids and actually getting sleep.

Besides, I live in an area that is hella cheap to live in. I own 2 houses and 2 cars, I don't have any debt whatsoever so 4000$ a month plus what my hubby makes from his business and we are living like kings.

I started indy and like Karina said - I spent a long time building a fanbase. I am only indy - I have tried mfc for a month and its just not for me. I'm only niteflirt and realgirlsoncam. Neither are like what they were in their hayday years ago but by building a fanbase its still steady. I used to make around 6k a month working both sites and now its more like 4k a month. I do have a friend though that did niteflirt and rgoc and was doing about the same as me then she started doing fetish videos on clips4sale and she claims she makes 8k a month now so she doesn't cam any more. She did already have a fanbase for her videos to start with but it grew. I haven't tried clips4sale but I should.

I do cam a lot though. I'm logged online for a few hours during the day and from usually 10pm-2am at night. Granted since its indy - I'm not chatting with people the whole time. I'm cleaning house, watching tv, sketching and surfing online.

Thanks everyone. Yeah, I think I'm gonna go with Streamate. Should I do multiple sites...is that the norm? I've heard you can't combine certain sites.

And I just had to ask about the money thing because sometimes I hear about women complaining how hard it is to make money. When I compare that to most jobs, I think minimum wage. So I wasn't sure if $1,000 per week is pretty attainable for working 40 hours. (given good looks, personality, etc). My eventual goal would be to make at least that much working 40 hours a week, but I'd like to try to make more too.

I would be content at making $30,000 in a year (full time), I'd be ecstatic making $50,000 a year but I don't know how realistic that is (again assuming that I'm committed, motivated etc) or how realistic $70,000 is a year working 40-50 hours a week and marketing yourself well.

You SHOULD cam on multiple sites. The only problems are:

    * Is your computer fast enough to handle split camming? (This means usign software so you can use your cams on other sites at the same time) You'd need a good computer to do this without lag or hiccups and to offer the highest quality you can. Don't worry, it's not THAT expensive to build a custom computer.

    * Do you have an HD webcam?

    * Is your internet connection upload bandwidth fast enough? Remember that for us, the most important thing is upload speed, and if you don't have enough, you won't be able to stream at a decent/good quality.

Check my sig for more info.

About how much you can earn, it varies a lot due to multiple factors: Which sites you work at, clients/fanbase, your computer, webcam and internet connection, commitment and marketing. I think other girls can give you a better answer.

keep in mind you're going to be paying a lot of taxes...so you might be making 30k a year but you'll end up paying a good deal of that in taxes (if you live in the u.s. anyway).

camming part-time the last year i've made about 10k. i'm transitioning into full-time camming and hope to double that at least next year my current goals are $500-$1000/week. keeping track of hourly doesn't really help me but i know i can usually pull $100/day. i'm trying to push that up to $150-$200, especially as my placement on streamate and cams improves.

no one else's situation can really prepare you for yours though - camming is very particular. what works for me might not work for you.

according to what i've read, if you are a resident of mexico (whether a foreign national/expat or a mexican citizen), you have to pay income tax in mexico. i don't know much about mexican tax law, though. this might help:

The only way it would likely show up on your background check is if you said you were a "webcam model" on your taxes. Otherwise, you'll probably be fine. I list my job as "internet sales."

I've been on MFC for 2 months now, and I've earned $2,700 total, before tax. Each pay period I earn a little more, without having to work as long (roughly 30 hours a week, if that). Considering I'm a US size 10/12, and the first couple weeks I was far too shy to show anything below the waist (now I bare all and love it!) I'm pretty happy with how I'm doing. Happy with the upward growth I'm seeing each pay period. If I could change anything I would a) have jumped right in with full nudity from the start and b) have not spent endless hours online when not getting tipped. My camscore dropped to 500. My camscore has steadily risen since I learned to let traffic indicate whether I should hang around or try again later. I'm still below 1000 on the camscore meter, but I'm doing OK! Thinking about trying SM but with a different persona because I don't think my approach to MFC would work on SM.
