Interesting vid! Thanks for the post...
Yet another reason not to have a built-in, but to use a lovely logitech and UNPLUG it when you are not using it but your computer is on.
There was another thread somewhere that talked about times when a webcam was streaming without the host knowing it!
I take cash, debit or credit. I just don't take shit.

Hear me ramble about random things:

Yep, I'm now officially freakedI'm going to be covering the webcam built into my computer, and only using the one I plug-in each time. Thanks for posting this, because I actually didn't know about this!
I put duct-tape over mine.

Is there a way to disable the built in one? I am officially freaked out....
How to disable your internal webcam - with pictures!

I put a plaster/band-aid over mine
Yeah I worried about this myself I always have my built in covered with cardboard and tape. So yeah this is very possible. I would also suggest that you go into Task Manager and make sure your cam is no longer running. I started noticing that even when I closed it and that light turned off it was still running some how. Hmmm
i always have my built in cam covered with a sticker....
and i always make sure the camera on my cell phone is face down
my bf makes fun of me but no such thing as too paranoid

thank you for this! so many things we all take for granted, esp w/technology. i just now put duct tape over mine too and will be disabling it when i get home from school 2nite. my built-in always is acting wacky too!
THANK YOU for this thread HHH! we all need to be reminded of all the safety violations that can happen if we are not careful enough. this is sooo needed.

*unplugs webcam all paranoid-like*
I had a long-term acquaintance with an I.T. degree who slowly turned into a stalker, and last year he hacked into my gmail account, even with a 20 character long password of random letters/numbers/caps. From there he found out my new address and started sending creepy "gifts" and letters. I don't talk about it much because people always assume you'd have to be stupid, have shitty internet security, or fall for a phishing scam for these hackers to get into your info. Believe me, if someone's skilled enough, they can get in.
I went into freakout mode researching how to protect my info, and ever since then I've kept a small piece of cardboard taped over my laptop cam. It really fucked with my head for a while, to the point where I was in fear of what he might try to do next. But I finally had to find a balance where I could be cautious but still LIVE my life too.

Not surprised.

This doesn't disable sound though. And you don't want to disable your internal microphone, especially if you use skype, yahoo, cam2cam, etc.
The world is a creepy place. There is geolocation in your cell phone regardless if you turn the function on/off. There are built-in HD zooming video cameras & 2way microphone/speakers inside regular streetlights. All of this is documented, and girls have actually posting news postings about these kinds of things on other sections of this site. Big brother. And if the government can use these kinds of things, hackers can too! After all, a lot of hackers tend to be affiliated with other hackers who have worked for the FBI or whatever other high security officials.

Holy shit, I am so scared right now. Ugh. I am so not going to sleep tonight.
I couldn't even watch the whole video it freaked me out. The end looked scary (I watched it with the audio off)
Very scared :s
I definitely have a bandaid over my webcam now

haha I saw this a few weeks ago because I love creepy stuff! I don't take it very seriously tbh. Yes it can and does happen, but there's no need to freak yourselves out over it!

I disabled mine through the task manager. Thanks for posting =)
Between this and the crazy Bjork guy I heard about yesterday I am scared to be alone lol
P.S. What I dont get is, if you see the light on your web cam on, wouldn't that be a red flag? Can they turn it on without enabling the indicator turning on? I heard that most cams, integrated and not, have those so you know your cam works and also for safety reason.

In the video, she said something about her webcam light being broken, so maybe the guy fucked with that too. Who knows. My mom had a laptop that didn't have a light, but it did have a switch that you could slide to cover the cam. My ex-bf saw the vid and said it was stupid 'cause he still wouldn't have a way of figuring out her address, but I'm guessing that since she'd just moved, maybe the guy recorded her telling ppl her new address and how to get there, or maybe he saw her typing it somewhere on the computer.
OH MY GOD THAT WAS SCARIER THAN PARANORMAL ACTIVITY! Thank you, aaah, omg.
I'm sitting here on my MacBook Pro and now I'm scared of the iSight waaaah
Buying bandaids to cover the camera and a new webcam ASAP !!!!
God that is creepy, but if it happened to me he would probably regret ever doing it in the first place, I look like a total hobo most of the time I'm not on cam and I bring my laptop with me to shit... *grin*
