    Question Winter dry skin

The skin on my T-zone (my nose, eyebrows, and between eyebrows) gets soooo dry during the colder months. I'm talking so dry that the skin starts peeling. I can't even really cover it with makeup, because the makeup just accentuates the flaky skin areas. I think it mainly has to do with the huge drop in humidity in an otherwise extremely humid area. Anyway, I cannot find a moisturizer that can combat this dryness that doesn't leave a big sheen of grease on my face. Does anyone have any good tips to combat extreme winter dryness of the face?

I swear by this stuff. I remember the dry winters in NOLA. A little dab will do you, and you won't look greasy- it soaks in really well.

Other than that, I used to exfoliate with a warm, damp washrag every morning to keep on top of it.

I have the same problem. Aveeno calming foaming cleanser and Olay beauty fluid for sensitive skin right after showering or washing face does the trick for me. Also, try getting a warm mist humidifier. I sleep with two humidifiers going in my room, and my dry skin problem is almost eradicated.

Also sometimes when I peel, I put some jojoba oil on a clean dry washcloth and VERY gently buff the peeling area in tiny circles.

This happened to my hands when I was just in denver and hand cream from lush and elizabeth arden 8 hour cream works really good. The eight hour cream is more of a balm type consitency but I've put it on my face without incident but I don't have oily skin. Try the arden I read about it in the other dry skin, hands thread and had it laying around and it worked well.

Well, I just started using Eucerin brand, avail. @ drugstores & Ulta. For face I have COQ10 it's heavier, but non comedogenic, for sensitive skin.
For body, same brand calming cream it contains oatmeal. I get itchy rash spots from dryness

My face is peeling and dry like crazy because of retin-a gel.

This is how I combat dry, peeling, flaky skin:
Make these masks for a few times a week

    1. Lemon juice of half a lemon, cinnamon, and organic raw honey (1 tbsp)
    2. Lemon juice, raw honey (about a 1 tbsp) and turmeric

-Mix everything in a bowl and create a paste to which ever thickness you want. Put on and wear for 30 minutes.

-The honey is a great moisturizer as well as antibacterial agent to fight breakouts

-The lemon juice exfoliates and whitens skin

-Turmeric lightens and helps with acne

I also exfoliate every other morning in the shower with philosophy micro delivery and if my skin is REALLY bad I use philosophy hope in a jar. Right now they are having a 30% off sale on their website which could help with the cost of their great products.

I just had a sinking feeling in my stomach when reading your post... I'd forgotten that Denver has really dry air.... And I have really dry skin (even with lotion and humidifiers, but I think it's partly from Accutane) and just agreed to move there in February. This is going to be a disaster!!

^ It is very dry there and it's hard to breath since it's a mile above sea level. I was there for 3 weeks in sep when it was like high 80's in the day and my skin was fine( and it's reallllly dry) it was just when it was cold and snowing I came home( to 100% humidity) and it took a week to heal but I have ocd and wash my hands like 50 times a day. I'm sure you'll be fine. Sorry to threadjack.

I do appreciate you taking the time to respond, but I really don't think I can walk around with Vaseline on my face all winter.

    Natalllia,

    You are welcome.

Whenever I spend extended period of time on mountains where weather can be really cold and dry, I find Vaseline to be my true ally. It may not have fancy fragrance and all that but it really works. If lack of fragrance if your concern then you can spray some perfume after applying Vaseline. Just a thought.

The jackal I think she was more worried about her face becoming a grease pit and her make up sliding off. I could be wrong but I don't think it was the lack of fragrance. Lmao. She could apply it at night though.

^ That is true. Applying at night would work as well because it tends to penetrate the skin therefore the effect can last at least 12 hours.

I heard using vaseline as an under eye treatment to combat wrinkles helps extraordinarily!!

I'm spending my first dry winter up in the artic tundra - I know what you're going though. I've been using a Nivea moisturizer that's been working well, and also - I've completely stopped washing my face. I know that sounds gross, but I use cold cream to take off my makeup, wipe that off with a lukewarm cloth, and then apply my Nivea Pure and Natural moisturizer a few times a day. If my skin needs cleansing, I use a bit of Witch Hazel on a cotton swab, and that's it! Facewashes have just been drying out my skin, so I've stopped useing them and my skin looks much better.

I'd avoid heavy exfoliation or anything abrasive atm. Could exacerbate the isue.

Exfoliate and try coconut oil. I tend to have dry skin skin on my cheeks and under my nose in the winter time. I've been using this Seaweed Facial Cleanser from The Body Shop and then moisturize my skin with the coconut oil. It doesn't feel heavy or greasy and really combats against the harsh winter chill. It's been making my face a lot softer as well. Vitamin D and/or Fish Oil tablets seem to help put moisture back into the skin, I've been told from my good mua friend.

St. Ives skin cream works for me...cheap and absorbs easily. I use the body lotion on my face and body with no problems.

I'm on Accutane and I started getting these weird dry flakey patches of skin on my face so I pretty much bought every moisturizer I could find on the shelf at Sephora and CVS. My LIFESAVERS have been Jojoba Oil (I actually bought that one at Trader Joes) and First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream (http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P248407 <--- I cannot sing enough praises for this one).
