Default Working out without toning up

    I eat crap and I don't work out. Yet, I'm a thin/slender girl. Yep, I'm that girl..

Due to the fact that I don't have much in terms of a layer of fat covering my underlying muscles, I appear fairly muscular... especially my arms and abs. This is amplified even moreso on STAGE due to my dark skintone and the stage accent lights.

I want to start working out and eating right just to be healthier.. I get winded taking a flight of stairs and have to fight back tears when they open the side stages. lol absolutely no stamina or energy

However, I DO NOT want to appear even more muscular than I already do! I already hear, "OMG your abbbbsssss on staaaaaagggee!!!" and it makes me feel scary. Once I start working out, I might as well change my stage name to CHYNA (wwe).

    Advice?

My amateur advice: Cardio for stamina, complex carbs (legumes, potatos, corn, brown rice) for energy.

And to give me some of your build. It sounds amazing.

Thanks, girl, but it's really the lights - it's all in the lights casting deceiving shadows... that + my color - maybe I can ask the dj for different lighting? hmm?

Eating right and skipping the working out with some type of vitamin/supplement for energy?

Vitamins can't hurt, but I wouldn't skimp on the cardio if you want to build real stamina. Fifteen minutes on the elliptical 5 days out of the week made a huge difference in my energy. Maybe a brisk hike? Something that will get your heart rate up and get it used to being there.

Stick with cardio activities and you'll be fine. Think about joining a gym and taking some classes. They're great for motivation. Look for aerobics or dance classes like Zumba. An hour class will zip by before you know it.

You can build muscle with aerobics, but it's pretty hard to do. You'd need to do something like incorporate weights at the same time and you have to use heavy weights. Sometimes aerobics classes will use small hand weights. These give you a better aerobic workout but don't really cause you to gain any muscle.

It's unlikely that you will gain any muscle out of the blue. Most women just don't have the hormones for it, and it usually takes a lot of concerted effort with lifting to bulk up. So I'll just reiterate what everyone else is saying: lean proteins, fruits/veggies, complex carbs, and 15+ minutes of high-intensity cardio 4+x/week.

If you can, switch the display on your elliptical trainer or treadmill to show mets instead of cals/hour. Keep that number at least above 9 but ideally above 10. Try intervals also, where you jog lightly for a couple minutes then run for a couple then sprint for 30 sec, repeat etc. It's great for your heart!

JW does improving your cardio health help you not to sweat as much during physical activity?

I would recommend doing mountain hiking. It is a great way to build stamina. Eating right is even more important than working out. Watch out what you eat. It is a simple math - do not eat more than what you are burning out.

your body probably isn't going to change that much. some of us are just built like that, because i do know what you're talking about. the only thing that has really changed on my body is my arms have increased in size from doing pushups and pullups. your legs and tummy will pretty much stay how they are.
