Default What to expect when interviewing for work at a dungeon?

I applied, sent in pictures, had a lengthy phone interview, and might be going in for an in-person interview this evening. However, I'm not quite sure what to expect.

I'm also wondering if what the interviewer told me to expect is the norm. He proposed the interview almost like a competition between me and the other applicants and that we would be competing though various fetish-influenced tests.

It made me a little uneasy, kind of like a sugar daddy that wants you to audition sex before committing. Is this normal? How apprehensive should I be?

NVM, last phone conversation was really weird. He offered to do "private sessions" with me until I was ready to see clients. . . . Meanwhile, I never learned his name, he wouldn't tell me the name of the Dungeon, had me send him everything through the job posting, and was calling me from a private number.

I understand the need for discretion, but that last phone call just pushed my unease over the edge. A big part of me feels like, there is no dungeon. He's just a perv looking for free kink play.

    Sorry for the rant.

From what you've posted thus far, I absolutely agree with your decision to pass on this one. Wasn't going to respond because I have no experience with "dungeon interviews" and wouldn't know if that was normal or not. Male doms throw up red flags for me automatically because I'm a sexist jerk and believe that more often than not, they're insecure little boys who want (violent gonzo-style) sex with no regards to true BDSM practice. Not always the case of course, but by and large what who you'll find trolling about online.

Trust is a HUGE component of BDSM.

You have no reason at all to trust this guy. It sounds like he is playing games and looking for someone to manipulate, control and abuse. This is a dangerous situation.

Find a real Dom (female, preferably) with real ads, real website, real dungeon with a real email, real phone number, etc. Schedule a real session (and pay) and inquire about apprenticing or training while you're there. It may take a while to find a reputable Dom to take you on.

    One other thing:

You posted "Sorry for the rant" which was unnecessary as there was no "rant". Based on this, I assume you are a sub?

IMO, subs need to be particularly cautious while exploring BDSM possibilities. There is a difference between being a sub and being taken advantage of. There are a great many people who are dangerous and use the dom/sub angle to hunt for prey. Seek out Doms who have a good reputation in the BDSM community.

A sub needs to be able to TRUST their Dom. Your life could depend on it.

This is good advice, thank you! I found a local domme that offers classes/ mentoring. Her skill set doesn't seem exactly what I'm looking for (torture vs bondage and roleplay) but it seems like a great place to start. Maybe I'll start with a class and see where that takes me!

And I'm very glad I trusted my gut and stayed away from that guy. In the past, not listening to my instincts when things don't feel right has always led to trouble.

The alt community in music/art event would be able to point you in the right directions. Many of the indy dominas and private dungeons participate in charity events, parties, and awareness things at least in my area.

Lol, as a person, yeah. I used to be a sub in my sex life but not anymore. I'm pretty vanilla now. I think that's why domming appeals to me, though. When I'm working, I like to flip a switch and play a character. When I'm acting too much like my real self, the work wears on me. But that's something for a whole other thread, I guess!
