Smiley Chemical Peels - Do they work??

I've talked to/heard some girls at work who get Chemical peels for their face - it's supposed to help clear up your skin. It seems really scary to me! I've done the research, but still interested in hearing if you've gotten them, and how happy/dissatisfied you are with your results! And how much better they make your skin look. I have reoccurring acne, and have tried a lot of things including at home facials, bare minerals make up, different face washes, etc. Any other skin tips welcome! : D It's my dream to have beautiful GLOWING skin!

I've had them before and for me they made my skin look wonderful! The downside is it's not a permanent fix. (at least for me it wasn't)

I couldn't tell you the names of the peels I had because at the time I was younger & didn't really care, I just trusted whatever the dermatologist gave me but the next time I get one I am def gonna ask. I also think the results would have lasted longer if I had a better diet and took care of my skin correctly but again, I was younger & not as self aware as I am now.

I say just go for it. You never know until you try. But start off with something mild.
Follow your heart and do what feels right for you, because that’s living. Everything else is dying.

A great at home peel for acne! I have the Glycolic Acid one and it works great for wrinkles and evening out skin tone. If you feel nervous doing one at home for the first time or want to see what they're like, cosmetology schools will do them at a much more discounted rate.

I have severe acne, nodules. I've been to doctor after doctor. Used every cream, wash, lotion, makeup, at home remedy, ect. I have chemical peels now regularly by a licensed specialist. My face will be red for a bit and cant go in the sun for a few days but it's worth it to have clear skin.

I loved doing Makeup Artist's Choice peels - but didn't see much of a consistent change in texture of my skin. I recently bought a clarisonic and, to second another poster, it has done much more for my skin. I can't wait to start peeling now!

In total mild peels are a nice bonus for your skin, but I'd try the clarisonic or a set of microdermabrasion treatments.

i have had horrible acne for as long as i can remember. I just recently started using retin-a micro gel 0.1% and my face is spotless. It took about 3 months to see the effects i have now. I had a really bad initial breakout.

I was considering getting chemical peels and even purchased two but have not used them for fear of permanent damage. Go to a derm and ask about your options and mention the desire to try retin-a micro gel. It has completely transformed my skin.

I've used it on my whole face maybe five times, and spot treated my nose and chin maybe twice. I've also used on my hands twice, my shoulders twice, and my butt twice as well.

I've noticed that as far as blackheads go, I'm noticing a real difference. They're still visible, but I have to really bring my head closer to the mirror to look for them. My boyfriend (who's my resident popper which is great) says that everything comes out more easily after doing a peel. As far as my hands and my butt, I think they've been dryer and a little rougher because except for right after the peel, I haven't been that great about putting lotion on which is pretty necessary.

I don't go out into the sun that often due to being a night owl, but I went to Sephora and Origins and am trying out two of their facial sunscreen lotions because other sunscreen facial lotions always make me break out and smell weird to boot. The one from Sephora is an Argan oil SPF which is either all organic or mostly organic. I like that, but I do like Origins better, which is also pretty natural.

I haven't, unfortunately, been noticing a difference on my small wrinkles. Some spots on my face, like the center of my forehead, and the cheeks closest to my nose, still look like the skin is uneven-- pores are noticeably larger, and the skin just looks....I don't know-- like it needs some sandblasting to really get at the skin underneath.

I'm honestly about to get the TCA peel from amazon. I spend most of my time at home so I'm not really worried about the downtime, though part of why I'm researching SPFs is because you HAVE to wear one when you go out after a TCA or risk hyperpigmentation. Which, I would think, you could just treat with TCA again and have a do-over, but I don't know that for certain.

As far as the rest of my skin, it does look "brighter," which seems fairly subjective and like I might just be fooling myself, but looking in the mirror washing my hands, my skin doesn't look as dull as I remembered it. When I get up close to the mirror is when I see there's no difference on the forehead wrinkles and still the dull patches.

It was worth the $20, in my opinion, because I've gotten so many uses out of it. I'm planning on also getting some alpha-hydroxy lotion from amazon
    http://www.amazon.com/Alpha-Hydrox-A...owViewpoints=1
that also has really good reviews. I don't know much about alpha-hydroxy stuff, so I just hope it's not a problem using that alongside glycolic acid or TCA.

edit: okay, so alpha hydroxy must be glycolic acid because that's what the active ingredient is in the lotion.
Also, looking at hyaluronic serum. Totally curious. Any users?

I get clindamyacin gel and a separate clindamyacin "roll-on" solution to clear up acne, and then I use generic retin-A. All prescribed by my derm. Worked wonders.

I also changed my diet to gluten-free, dairy-free on another doc's advice, and I'm seeing resulting my skin. I made a point of getting more fats in my diet from nuts and fish, and yet again, another big change.

With the peels, I noticed some residual redness that stayed on some folks for a long time, requiring more makeup. I guess the paler you are, the more likely you are to get that redness?

Also, what about people with roscea (rose-say-sha, sp?) and psoriasis on the face? I would think the peel would exacerbate these, but I guess that's a question for an MD.

^I had roseacea as a kid which finally cleared up when I got serious about always reapplying the lotion the doctor gave it to me. By the time I hit high school, it was gone, so it might've been a hormone surge during 7th and 8th grade.

About to get the TCA peel and after I've worked this weekend will likely try it. Looking forward to freaking out my boyfriend with scaly skin.
A little worried though. Settled on a SPF 35 from Origins which I really like and have been using most days, but some days I forget when I run out to do errands. I'm going to pack some in the car (worried about the car heat fucking it up but I'll pack a little emergency jar so if I have to throw it out after a week, no biggie.)

I'm wondering though-- if I forget to put SPF on once or twice, but am largely good about covering up, will I have irreparable damage? Damage that can't be undone with another TCA peel? Also, even if I do wear a lot of sunscreen and maybe even a hat-- I want to go to the pool this summer which is still within the 6 month "be especially good to your skin" post-peel window I've heard about. Is that going to screw up my skin?

I used to order AHA acid from Ebay and do peels but it affected the skin on different parts of my face differently and I actually got scars on my nose from it. I also seemed to develop a tolerance to it. Recently I bought a bottle of Blue Cross Cuticle Remover at Sally's Beauty Supply (for my cuticles) but I noticed on the instructions it said not to put it too close to your eyes and I researched it on the Internet and tried using it as a peel. Best peel I have ever done, affected my facial skin evenly, no burns... Will do again!

Has anyone seen improvement in acne scars when using chemical peels? I was on acne medication and most of my acne is gone but I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of the scars. I heard they lighten over time, but I'd like to get rid of them as soon as possible.

^I think it makes a difference if they're icepick or not.
Not sure as I only had one or two marks and when I did mine, it's one of those things, where the first peel doesn't do much for the scars-- you just have to keep going.

Nope, they're not icepick. Just flat and discolored. I think I'm going to try a low strength peel since my skin is really sensitive.

Yeah, I would start with a glycolic or lactic or jessners. Don't do tca for a long time since you have to build up.
Also, apple cider vinegar helps with small scars and moles over a long period of time.

I want to try a chemical peel-I didn't even know you could get home ones!I don't have acne, but I get tiny blackheads around my nose, mouth and chin-not noticable to anybody but me really! But I would like my skin to look better. It's pretty clear for my age, I get the odd pimple which I don't see as a bad thing. I don't know what kind to get though!

yeah, check out Amazon and read the reviews. And do your homework so you don't burn yourself. I noticed a difference with glycolid acid 35% from amazon on my nose blackheads. Though, I would recommend getting 70% and cutting it with water so your buck goes further. I didn't even think about that until after I got it.

Thanks for the advice. I've heard really good things about ACV, and it's cheap, so I'm going to try it.

I done TCA peels, and they haven't been really effective. I wouldn't recommend it.

    ^how many have you done?

I've only done one, and I think I'm going to stick to diluting the tca peel so that the peeling is a lot slower so I don't have to take off work for a week.

I think doing a little every day beats doing extreme peels. For instance using Retin A at night over time helps, doing aspirin & yogurt scrubs over time helps, using a moisturizer during the day with AHA helps. Better to do a little each day than to do a lot once in a while (my personal take) plus you can get scars from the extreme peels and there is down-time. Even just washing your face with baking soda helps if you do it every day.
