    Duh $10,000 a night

So.... the NY Post recently published this lovely story about Rick's Cabaret inNYC.

.....working the night shift at Rick’s Cabaret in Midtown, one of the most profitable strip clubs in the nation, she took home $10,000 — and never even took off her clothes.

The best hustlers bring home between $600,000 and $800,000 a year — and that’s just the dollars the club tracks through credit-card purchases, and doesn’t factor in cash tips, which could push their annual take to seven figures in a good year.

I don't know many strippers earning that much...... how about you?

I'd be curious to see those credit card purchase receipts. Like, did they only count the cut the girls get, or does it include whatever the club gets from the room and drinks?

Apart from that claim, the article actually seemed to do a semi-decent job of not looking at the industry through rose-coloured glasses where these girls are making 10Gs every night. I particularly liked this excerpt:

“The best night I had, I made $10,000,” said Cristina, 28, a blonde from Eastern Europe who said she’s stripping to pay for grad school in speech therapy. “There are guys that fall in love with a girl to the point that putting down money is nothing. But you can also go home negative, because you pay $200 a night to work here.”

Good for her bringing up the up-and-down nature of the industry and that with the amazing shifts so too come the bad. Then shortly after, another girl commented on the toll dancing can take on your OTC life.

exactly. they made that maybe twice. i doubt that any dancer makes a 7 figure income. 6 figures for sure, especially at Rick's but not 7. Not even high 6 figures.

Kinda silly to label the article "Shaking her moneymaker for $10,000 a night" when 1) she didn't have to do any shaking on her $10,000 night, and 2) that was clearly an exceptional circumstance. But of course, titles like that draw more readers.... I guess I could believe that, working at a club like that, if you were a hardcore hustler who worked 6-7 days a week, you could potentially pull in that kind of money. I don't know many girls, hardcore hustlers or not, who would want to work that endlessly though.... those few girls are definitely in the minority of strippers.

The article wasn't bad, but it was a little "sensational" when, in reality, the girl who had the $10,000 night basically got lucky. Not saying that she wasn't smart in how she hustled him, but I can't imagined she gets that many customers who are willing to throw down $1000/hr for chatting. So she made 10,000 on her best night... but not 10,000 per night, which implies this is a common occurrence. The girls who pull in 600,000 a year probably have little life outside stripping. If that's how they want to roll right now, good for them! But for anyone who knows anything about stripping and strippers, it's damn hard to hustle that hard that many nights a week for an entire year.... I doubt people who read it and don't know anything about stripping are going to understand that and be impressed with the luck of the girl or their work ethic - they'll just read it and use it as another excuse to hate strippers out of jealousy, but frame it as hating us for being "money grubbing whores that they would never be able to lower themselves to, no matter how much they were making."

....sorry, I'm bitter and cranky today lol

My main reason for posting this article was to show the insane inflated earnings....

Let's say a stripper makes $700 per night on average...
If she pays out $200 (according to the article)...
    She banks $500 per night.

Multiply that by 365 days in a year (even though we all know working 365 nights straight isn't too realistic)

    You end up with $500 x 365 = which equals $182,500.

I'm just averaging it all out considering tips to hosts, good nights, bad nights, etc.

Where the f*ck do they get $600,000-$800,000 + tips = adding up to over $1million per year ????

Even if girls made $1,000 after tip out every night, and worked every night, the numbers still add up to $365,000

    WTF.

To make 600,000 a year you have to work 5 days every week and average $2307. that is just impossible.

That's total bullshit. No way in hell, even an extras girl would make that much now a days. In this recession??? LOL. Maybe in the 80's-90's.

I wonder if someone here who works at Ricks would tell us how much of this is true. Cause I'd really like to know! I'm severely underpaid.

    ^^^ LOL.

It's a normal club. Except when I worked there I made at least $5K a night, feasted on Unicorn steaks, and had billionaire bankers rubbing my feet.

The feet thing is true, but the rest was a joke.

The tragic part is that the NY City tax dep't / NY State tax dep't / IRS all read the NY Post. With income numbers like that being thrown around, you can bet that they'll soon be snooping through Rick's exotic dancer 'job application' files for real names, real addresses, and Social Security numbers of those dancers who are supposedly earning $600k-$800k per year.

The potential tragedy of course will be Rick's dancers who didn't file a tax return. What do they do when the IRS claims they earned $600k last year and want $200k in back taxes ? Even if the IRS decides to 'split the difference', what do they do when the IRS claims that they 'only' earned $300k last year and want $100k in back taxes ? How can a dancer prove that she DIDN'T earn a certain amount of money when club managers and a major newspaper are saying that she did !

... and people wonder why I quit dancing in Manhattan clubs ???

Melonie! I'm so glad you jumped in!

Do you think the ladies in the article who boasted of receiving $10,000 (whether it be wages, tips, or a gift) in one evening will face some sort of IRS 'attention'?

I have heard that cash $ gifts totaling or above $10,000 must be declared --- or else!

^^^ the IRS already has set precedent that supposed 'gifts' given in exchange for 'services rendered' must be considered to be taxable income to the recipient. It's guaranteed that this interpretation will be applied in any 'stripper' scenario. Tips are already defined as taxable income to the dancer. Dancer payouts from the club to dancers based on customer credit card charges must be considered as taxable income to the dancer as well.

I would actually worry much more about the NY City tax auditors being the first ones to start combing Rick's files - since the NY City gov't budget is so far in the red they are starting to get desparate. Of course, whatever they turn up will then immediately be shared with the NY State income tax agency ( which is also broke ) as well as with the IRS !!! But then again, last year's congress approved money for the IRS to hire additional agents, and to form a dedicated 'adult business' tax enforcement unit, and public exposure like the NY Post story can't sit very well with that group !!

The dumb ass club manager also made a statement printed in the NY Post that the club has 'tracked' dancer incomes in the $600k-$800k range !!! This obviously implies that club records exist showing which dancers supposedly got paid what amount of money ... and will probably be of EXTREME interest to auditors and investigators.

The dumb-ass club manager was correct with one statement to the Post though ... after the legal appeals run out on NY City's 60/40 rule, a whole bunch of NYC clubs could be 'zoned' out of existance !!!

Even if after being audited, it seems Ricks girls will still being doing good after taxes (if statements by management were accurate). Come on, $600,000-$800,000?? I cant imagine the IRS making much of a dent in their income.

but the point is that they're not making that. maybe 2-300,000 which is still high and i bet not all of them make that. Eve at 300,000 a year you still have to make over a grand a night working five times a week every week of the year. who does that? especially if they make that much, it's unlikely they come in that often. only girls with pimps would (exaggerating)

Exactly ! But if the IRS SAYS that the dancers made $300k last year, based on manager's comments, club records, and IRS 'estimates', how can a dancer prove that she DIDN'T actually earn the $300k that the IRS claims she did ????? After all, the manager is already on record that large amounts of tips and other gratuities are paid directly by customers to dancers in cash !!!!!

^^^ I didn't want to be quite that blunt about it, but ... yup ... it can and has happened ! If the IRS has already determined that a dancer isn't keeping 'accurate' and 'professional' records of her nightly income, and didn't properly report income and file / pay taxes in the past, she will receive very little credibility when an IRS says / 'stripper' says money argument arises !

I'd believe $10,000 for a best night of your career. I've made close to $5,000 in one night on my "best" night but this is no where near normal. On the nights that you make well over $2,000, you usually are sitting with a customer drinking and talking all night, from my experience anyways.

I can see maybe 2000-3000 a night.. I have a lot of 1000 dollar nights but I dont see 10000... my best night was 4500 in west palm, 3200 in dallas and 3600 in las vegas...

I dont think any girl unless youre a feature with a serious fanbase can make 10k a night...

    YES! THIS!!!! ^^^^^

    They're moronic.

#1-- they obviously can't do math. I hesitate to say earning $1 million yearly solely from stripping is impossible.... I mean, you never know. BUT it's pretty damn close to impossible so I would never make the assumption that it's a reality. Nor would I tell that BS assumption to a reporter as if it is a fact. Idiots.

#2-- sticking with the $1 million figure, the manager is not only assuming that dancers earn 6-800K from credit cards but that they earn an extra --$200K-- from cash tips alone. That is straight up nuts.

#3-- Rick's is in the midst of class action lawsuit. The lawsuit is designed to reimburse dancers the 10% of cash subtracted from funny money when they cash out. Wouldn't this suggest that dancers there are owed far, far more money?

#4—I don’t know if this is some sort of publicity stunt. They have been big-time media whores lately.

    https://af11.wordpress.com/tag/ricks-cabaret/
    http://www.totalprosports.com/2011/1...ret-nyc-video/

    And now this article….

I think their asinine bragging will eventually come back to bite them. Sadly, as Melonie points out, ladies there may have to suffer some of the consequences. What a bunch of douche-nozzles.

I don’t know if this is some sort of publicity stunt
If you're ready for a 'conspiracy theory' ... one of my business acquaintances is of the opinion that RICKS is having some investor problems. Thus the 'between the lines' purpose of the dumb-ass manager's statements to the NY Post about dancer incomes and the 60/40 ruling providing NY Ricks with a valuable competitive advantage over most other NY strip clubs was to reassure investors that RICKS stock still has good earnings potential. My acquaintance also pointed out that RICKS attempted to get similar self-serving news coverage in Texas in regard to a potential court ruling overturning the state's 'pole tax'. RICKS stock even caught a tout or two recently from a couple of professional financial advisors.

sticking with the $1 million figure, the manager is not only assuming that dancers earn 6-800K from credit cards but that they earn an extra --$200K-- from cash tips alone. That is straight up nuts.
For the sake of NYC dancers, let's hope that the IRS and NY tax people share your opinion !
