drops are the one thing I recommend doing from high up first. Make sure you have a strong grip at first (i.e. not slipping down the pole while trying to stay stationary). Tighten your muscles as much as you then unclench your thighs to loosen and drop and re-clench to stop, practice just going a few inches at first then work on bigger and bigger drops when you've got the feel for it. The trick when doing a bigger drop is to look towards at the floor so you know when to stop yourself.

You know how when you see a lion pouncing you can see the muscles tighten and ripple before it jumps? That's kinda what I picture when initially clenching before a drop, it prepares the muscles for whats about to happen and will go back to that really tight clench when you stop yourself.

Be careful if the pole is a little slippery remember to stop yourself earlier than you think you need to as you might continue to slide a little (hopefully only slowly if at all) after you've finished the drop.

Just re-read your post and realised I only answered one part.

As to your leg placement you should have an ankle back and front and a knee either side so it's held with ankles, calves and thighs. Try to straighten your legs as much as possible in the position, that will increase the area of skin contact with the pole and give more grip - also remove anything covering your stomach as you can also use your stomach skin to grip.

For a controlled slide down try loosening just the leg that's hooked behind (if you invert on your right then right leg, left then left leg) by just bending it and un-hooking the ankle.

My favorite drop is going from the very top and dropping all the way down to the floor and landing in the splits. Guys are always so impressed by that.

You're welcome! I'll work on my Jade Split drop when I start working again and try and help you with that as well, my pole in my basement is really slippery so I'm too scared to do it here.

if you have a pole in your house and skype I could help you out, might be easier than uploading videos back and forth.

if it's the new x-pole you need to put the screws back in the bottom joint, under the bit the screw on cover plate covers. That's the only thing I think I can think of

lol, try this http://www.aveeno.com/skincare/produ...urizing-lotion the one with natural colloidal oatmeal. It soaks in really well so it you can pole dance like 20 mins later and it won't make you slip.

Amareth, do you get pole burn from doing some of the drops? That sad girl one looks like it'd like your sides pretty red! I'm still gonna try it though...

^ I didn't start trying drops till earlier this year (I'd already been dancing 3 years) so my thighs were already pretty much made of steel. Like every other move it might hurt the first few times you do it but you build up a tolerance.

If you're worried about bruising take arnica pills and rub arnica cream on your thighs before you go to bed. After about 2 weeks of taking the pills every day you'll notice bruises will barely come up and be gone after a few days.

Pretty much as soon as you start the drop you start changing your leg position to a bent knee pole sit so your ankles won't be sliding down the pole. That way only the skin on your thighs will be sheered to shit
