I'd try a few other brands. Pureology has always struck me as a bit gimmicky. I've heard that the olive oil shampoo at sally's is a good one. That and Dr. Bronner's soap.

I second Dr Bronners.. I dont use it full strength though, about a tbp to a half a cup water. The peppermint one feels really nice, but I generally go for almond.

Ok, thanks so much ladies..Dr. Bonner's? Isn't that a multi use soap? I think they have @ Walmart?
Spin, I used the Olive Oil conditioner yellow colr pack I heard good things about it, I seen always the last one or two left on the shelf. I can't tell how it is, cause that damn shampoo coated my hair..
I have a credit only @ Ulta though, can anyone recommend anything there? Or I can look on their site for ratings..

Are you looking for something to deep clean your hair, like removing all of the buildup? Or just a regular shampoo to wash your hair nicely?
Garnier Fructis (different types) and Herbal Essences Hello Hydration shampoo all seem to get rave reviews. Perhaps adding some baking soda to your shampoo might help. A friend of mine used to do this whenever she wanted to thoroughly cleanse her hair. Also, Giovanni Smooth As Silk Shampoo works sooo well, not much of a lather and I think is sulfate free. But I've used it and always liked the results.

Pureology shampoo blows.... I only like their conditioner, and there are better ones out now anyways. I've been using Giovanni tea tree oil shampoo. It's sulfate/fite free and does an amazing job of cleansing all the gunk and products off your hair and scalp. Love.
whirlz i know what u mean, i use sulfate free and i dont think it lathers??? Doesn't feel as clean as it does when i use regular shampoo with its normal cleaning agents. I probably would not be using this shampoo if it weren't for my brazilian keratin treatment.

I use multiple shampoos on a rotation. Tresseme's sulfate free one is good, but we have rock-hard water here so I keep a clarifying shampoo on hand too
I fully agree with this - I use the same formula by Giovanni, cleans like a dream. So much so Ive used it back to back for almost a year. For a product junkie that's pretty impressive.
Baking soda is a good strategy or adding extra tea tree oil (but not much like a drop). Ill do an ACV rinse once every two weeks if it feels super gross or Ive overloaded it, but Giovanni's line of shampoos are really good

I do have a clarifying shampoo I like & use, it cleans good, & is on the gentle side: Chinese herb shampoo by Lamas Beauty..
I just got highlights, & had to do a root touchup myself..I heard so many good things about the new Pureology Platinium line..previously I used their smoothing serum w/shea, & loved it..
I have a few mini shampoos to use for now, some color friendly, conditioning, just figured I get both the shampoo & conditioner together
It seems that sulfite free shampoo leaves my hair coated, dry & oily at the same time, tangly
Super hard water here too.
Anyway, I got L'Anza Healing Moisture leave-in spray, LOVE their products, have previously used

^ It honestly could be the water more than anything. I live in San Diego and the water is SO shitty here. It's like a permanent bad hair day when I'm down here. I was visiting my sister in the Bay Area and her house has way better water, even though I was using her cheap dove shampoo and conditioner my hair looked/felt fantastic. I bought a shower filter when I got home and my hair condition has significantly improved.
Have you tried moroccan oil shampoo and conditioner? I have to wash twice with the shampoo but it actually leaves your hair feeling pretty clean. I know what you're talking about, I have super dry hair but an oily scalp. Sometimes I use the Pureology Hydrate shampoo in the purple bottle and it leaves the lengths of my hair feeling soft but my roots are super greasy after the first day.
I've actually used moroccan oil shampoo and conditioner and it didn't help my hair either, I have the same issues as whirl with sulfate free products. But I'm glad you mentioned the problem with water down here in socal. I've had well not so great hair my whole life, dry, sort of dull that kind of thing, so im gonna use a shower filter and pray that works as well as a possible weekly demineralizer treatment. Did you by any chance achieve softer hair with the filter?

I won't use morrocan oil, period..I have used avacado oil, (I get it from vitaminshoppe.com or their regular store) or products containing it
I have seen a shampoo that's made to work w/hard water, can't remember the name or where I saw it

Thats interesting... I too remember always having a bad hair day when I lived in Diego....my hair looked like kaka, my sister goes to the salon every week, she doesnt wash her hair at home at all because she cant stand how it feels.
When I lived with my ex and we got a water softener system thingie for our water tank, my hair was sooo nice!
Anyway, shampoo that lathers up is more for the phych value than actually cleansing value, it strips the hair right down. I swear by Bronners followed by an ACV rinse and about once a month I would use a tea tree shampoo. My hair behaved so nice, had lots of body and movement....and I could not keep my hands out of it cause it felt so nice.
I dont do any of that now, and my hair looks and feels blahh. I wear it in a ponytail or bun all of the time now, and put on my lacefront when Im going out. Since I never do anything to it except wash and put it back in a ponytail, its longer than its been in a long time. It just looks too bad to actually style and step out in. I need to start getting back into a routine here...

Some sulfate free shampoos do lather really well! Most of them suck at lathering, but you just have to find the ones that don't. Alterna and Giovanni shampoos both lather just as well as shampoos with sulfates in them, IMO. They use an ingredient derived from coconuts as a replacement to sulfates, at least the Giovanni one does, I'm looking at the bottle now. It's called sodium cocoamphoacetate.

Hi Hun!^ Yeah, I gotta try that Gionni or whatever, I have seen it..sounds like a pizza place

Be gentle with your hair and give it time to adjust. When I switched I originally had to shampoo twice because my hair just wasn't clean. And I have super dry hair! One of my friends switched over and she had the same problem.
Forget about Pureology. You might like Alterna shampoos! There are a lot of good brands mentioned in here that I'd definitely have a look at also. Let us know how it turns out.

Yes, I've been looking @ Alterna, when I go in ulta..their spray oil seems to get good reviews

I use the loreal sulfate-free line and i love it! ulta usually carries loreal stuff...

Coconut shampoo by Organix. Smells great, sulfate free, lathers well and makes my curly hair soft.

I know, but if you haven't tried this sulfate free shampoo, it's worth a try. It's not pricey at 6.99. Also, I tried other sulfate free shampoos and wasn't impressed. This one is really different. You just might like it.
I don't own stock in this company or work for them either. I'm just really exited about the product.
