Default fake job answer when asked in real life?

I'm curious.. this is my full time job now as a cam model, and when i'm out and about and get the famous "where do you work question" i'm at a loss! I've said that i'm an online consultant and some drop it but the other night this guy kept insisting that i tell him what i consult! lol! i have used an appointment setter as well for wine parties.
What do you all say you do? I'm a single mom and I can't just air my business and it terrifies me that I could lose custody of my children in this line of work if my ex husband were to discover what I do now.
But this has seriously saved my life and I make more than I did working full time and never work when I have my kids.
Thank you very much!! I can't add a pic to my profile now either.. I must be losing it!

    Tell them you do transcription.

I tried doing that for about a week and I had to stop cause I was dying of boredom. Its seriously the most boring thing anyone can ever do ever. Everrr. It was interesting at first because I was doing insurance interviews, and hearing about the accidents and stuff was cool...for like the first day. After that my brain leaked out of my ears.

I do web design and used to just say that because if someone asked questions, Id be able to know what I was talking about, but I dont actually want to do any web work anymore so I stopped saying thats what I do.

Other ideas that Ive seen tossed around is saying you answer calls for QVC or HSN... which can also explain why you cant be reached or bothered for stretches of time even though youre at home.

Im thinking of saying Im a housewife without a husband. No one takes me seriously anyway, Im always joking around and its hard to get a straight answer out of me about anything

Oh my gosh!! Thank you for the giggle at the end! I will for sure use one of those. I like the HSN QVC a lot. I'm going to take the real estate course online and start using that as a back up when I start making money with it sometime next year..
This has been seriously bothering me and it so shouldn't!

I used to work for West Telemarketing now called West at Home for 6 years and we took calls for HSN, Shopnbc, and Sears just to name a few, so you can always say you work for them.

My husband's family always asks if I work, I cam full time also. I say no. If I made something up like online customer service they would ask a ton of question and want to do it themselves.

I tell people I do data processing for a friend who works in computer security.

When they ask me about my job, I reply "I am sorry, I can't tell you anything about it or I would lose my job. I signed a non-disclosure agreement since it is computer security -- plus it is really boring anyway."

No one has ever asked me any follow up questions after that.

Yeah, thats what I run into a lot...people being curious mostly because they want to be able to work from home too...

You could always order some business cards with Amway printed on them. No one will ask you again....they will leave you alone for the rest of your life even...

^ this is awesome! I feel like everyone wants job leads and they want to know every little detail. I've been saying I'm writing web content (because I do it on the side)....but then everyone wants to know what company and I bet I could do that! oye! Thank you for your amazing response!

I actually thought about this but my husband's family is nosey. Even if I said it was pvt info they would ask who the friend was and how I met them. Lol. It's just easier for me to say no I don't work, hubby makes all the money.

Hi there! There are lots of threads about this kind of thing already. Here are a few that I found and here's how I found them. I went to Search, Advanced Search, and then searched the terms "cover job", "lying to family", "fake job" "lying camming" "hiding camming" "hide cam" (without quotes). I went to the "search in forums" box, picked Camming Connection, then held the control key on my keyboard and picked also the other subforums I thought might have that information, Ladies Only, Life Support, Stripping and Other Work. Then I browsed the titles to find ones that seemed relevant. I hovered over the titles to preview the first few lines and clicked on the ones that seemed to be going my direction.

Here's just a small sampling of the most pertinent ones I found:
    http://forum.stripperweb.com/showthr...ight=cover+job

    http://forum.stripperweb.com/showthr...t=lying+family

    http://forum.stripperweb.com/showthr...=lying+camming

In my case, it's mostly my family who's always wanting to know what I do, particularly my grandfather. He's already on my case for not being in college anymore like my sisters, but now he accuses me of not living alone (like I must have a guy living with me payin my bills or somethin) and says he's afraid of me "doin somethin stupid". He even says if I don't answer the phone, "he gets scared because he doesn't want anyone goin to jail" blah blah blah. I'm tired of it. So, I like the idea of the QVC customer rep. If they want extra answers, o well. I'm 23 and don't owe anyone any detailed information about how I pay MY bills. I mean, are they gonna pay my bills for me? I don't think so.

When the nosies (family and friends) what do I do to make money, besides the burlesque thing part-time, I tell them that I still write web content for various clients (which I do part-time). My family considers me "the brain" of the family, so writing, research and even burlesque shows are OK, but camming is down-right atrocious to them. The only people who really knows about it is the boyfriend and the cousin, who also happens to cam as well (the crafty little witch was the one who put me on to camming).

I have noticed when you say that your a student taking onlien courses it usually ends a lot of questions. I wish I knew that in my earlier days of being in this industry. so now I just say I am a student and working part-time. they never ask about the job stuff they mostly ask about school stuff. which is pretty funny. and since you can be in school pretty much forever without anyone asking much questions I say that is your safest thing to say you do.

If anyone ask a 1000 questions about ur fake job, then just say your not allowed to discuss anything about ur job because you singed a confidentiality agreement. When I say that, it always gets everyone off my back with the 1000 questions. Giving that response works like a charm!!!

I say that I do medical billing from home or transcription work. Usually it doesn't seem that interesting so people don't really say more than "Oh that must be nice to work from home" or "I wish I could work from home".
