    Default Vitamix and Blendtec Blenders

Lately I have been considering buying a high-powered blender to make green smoothies with. I've done a lot of research on both brands, Vitamix and Blendtec, and they seem to be the best blenders around for this purpose. Both cost about $400 though, which is a pretty hefty price tag compared to most $40 blenders out there.

Does anyone own one of these? I'm trying to justify buying one, but I'm wondering if there's a cheaper blender out there I could buy that would yield the similar results. I need my blender to be able to grind up leafy greens and pieces of fruit with the skins on. I know the health benefits would be amazing but I'm so scared to drop that much money, on a blender of all things! lol

i was in the same boat as u like a year ago...
i ended up buying this one http://www.walmart.com/ip/Oster-6-Sp...ender/13729288
i can't say that it works as good as a vitamix because i never used one...but i blend spinach all the time and its fine, also it did fine with an apple with skin on,i chopped it up a little-i have seen people just half an apple and throw it in a vitamix..i don't think it would work with mine but i didnt try it.
i also have ground sesame seeds in it..it turned them to powder super quick. and it crushes ice like a beast lol..the magic number is 8..if i put more than 8 ice cubes it ends up leaving bigger chunks (so if i wanna make more crushed ice than that i have to empty it into a glass and then do it again)
it also won't blend frozen fruit...not sure any blender does, but i thought it would work if i had water in it or milk (it doesn't lol) i just have to run frozen fruit under cold water and thaw it out a little and it works great.
i'm trying to think of the toughest things i blended...sesame seeds, apples, celery, and carrots all worked fine. i can't think of anything anything much tougher you would need to blend...

I think one difference is blendtec can make nut butters, in like fifteen minutes whereas I don't think vitamix's engine can do that. Also, blendtec's size and shape of it's mixing container is very important. For one superficial
thing, it can fit under most kitchen cabinets because it's shorter and wider. But the main reason is that this shape allows it to pull everything down to theblades better.

Blendtec, I believe, is also made in the USA, whereas I think Vitamic had it's pieces made elsewhere and assembled here. Vitamix also ripped off of blendtec, got sued, and had yo changed it's mixing container shape and add that doohicky.

At costco, my boyfriend and I talked with the travelling vitamix vendor and when we asked about blendtec, he sid something along the lines of, "I could tell you a bunch of reasons why vitamix is better, but Im just goingto tell you it's better." Completely didn't answer our question despite being the only people standing in front of him. Right before Christmas, my boyfriend ran into a Blendtec vendor at costco and aked why blendtec was better than vitamix, and the vendor proceeded to take TWENTY MINUTES to tell him why blendtec was better, and what ways vitamix was weaker.

Now,both vendors have to be prepped with a lot ofsales manuvers that we, as strippers, can revognize who've read sales books. So I don't think the first vendor was doing something not sanctioned by vitamix, but rather he was doing what he was trained to do, misdirect, assert a positive, and change the subjecf.

So I'm likely going to get a blentec despite my family members having a vitamix.

You should lookat where the travel shows are in your area for both brands as you'll save like $40+ on either machie and get to talk to the vendor.

you can alsoread through the many, many reviews for both on amazon and make up your mind.

Blendtec blenders come with a crazy user agreement/warranty/contract. They are a shady Utah company based right down the street from me. If something messes up, they WILL NOT take responsibility, they will find a way to get out of it. "But they have funny commercials!" Yeah, I went with vitamix. I know several ppl who wish they had too.

yes, vitamix does nut butters, frozen fruit (the only blenders jamba juice will buy are vitamix, I worked there for a long time). Ice is no problem and greens are freaking pulverized! I regularly make soup in mine, it heats it up after a few minutes to steaming hot. Get a vitamix, I have the base model and have had it a few years now. Plus, if you want to upgrade later, they'll trade your old one and you just pay the difference (like $100 for a $500 one uf yours originally cost $400).

    ^ that's cool.

Definitely do your research. I think that there's solid points for each one of them.

As far as Costco-- they have traveling vendor shows-- so you can look on the vitamix or blendtec websites and see where their vendors are traveling through. State fairs, costco, places/events like that.

One difference I recall is that vitamix's blades aren't sharp, so you're not in danger of sticking yourself if you have to wash it by hand rather than just mixing soapy water in it.

I haven't heard that about blendtec's policy, but I'll look into it.

Thanks for the input! I ended up just biting the bullet and ordering a Blendtec from Amazon. That was before I read about their shit warranty though so I'm going to call the company before I open the box. I checked their website and they seem pretty legit, one of the reason I chose it over the Vitamix is that most of the Vitamix models were being sold from a third party, whereas the Blendtec ships directly from Amazon (which hopefully counts as an authorized dealer). I have an Amazon Prime membership so I got it shipped next day for $4, should be here tomorrow!! I'll let y'all know how it works out and if I decide to keep it.

Amazon Prime costs $79 a year, and you get free two-day shipping on everything sold through Amazon, and overnight shipping for $4. You also occasionally get other benefits that are purchase specific--like I just ordered some textbooks, and now I have a credit on my account. I order a ton of shit from Amazon and the $79 annually is totally worth it to me.

I've been thinking about getting a Vitamix myself. I have no problem spending the money if it's actually worth it and if it actually does what it's supposed to do.

I love my new blender! Best money I've ever spent on a kitchen appliance, I use it everyday. Makes smoothies, soup, batters, ice cream, sauces, dips...everything! I definitely couldn't make my green smoothies the same way with my old cheap blender. To me, the fact that I'm eating healthier and consuming way more raw veggies than I was before makes the purchase entirely worth it. I bought the Blendtec out of convenience, and they extended their warranty to 7 years. My sister just got a Vitamix though and raves about it. I think they're about equal in quality and performance.
