Default Keep yourself safe while camming (Work in progress)

    Hi people!

Lately I've noticed that a lot of girls are worried about having other people tracking them online and making a mess out of their private lives. While it is true that we can not be 100% safe online, and less when doing this job, there are some ways to bring a little more peace of mind to ourselves. Here are some ways to achieve that:

    Regarding computer security:

    * Keep your OS and software up to date. I don't care what anyone else thinks of this area, keeping the OS as updated as possible improves stability of the system overall and prevents possible attacks that could be executed using exploits in poorly written/old code.

    * Use a good Internet security suite (don't go cheap on this area, please). The best options out there right now are Avast Internet Security, Norton Internet Security (it has gotten a lot better than before and the reviews praise it as one of the best internet security suites out there), Kaspersky Internet Security, ESET Smart Security 5 (I use it, it's very lightweight) and Webroot SecureAnywhere Complete. For macpeeps, there's also Norton Internet Security for Mac OS. While many would argue that "macs don't get viruses", and it's true that Mac OS is engineered to avoid malware, it CAN get infected/hacked. I'd rather not risk it and armor my system as much as possible, just to be safe.

    * If that's not an option, use a good free antivirus such as Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast. But I STRONGLY suggest you to BUY an internet security suite to have a firewall. It can protect you to a certain degree from people wanting to hijack your computer and take control of it. DO NOT CHEAP OUT ON THIS!!

    * Use an additional malware scanner alongside your internet security suite such as MalwareBytes Anti Malware and run a scan each week (there are two editions: free and pro, but I've never tried the paid version, if you want to try it, why not?).

    * Use a VPN. This allows you to hide your IP address provided by your internet provider and instead, use another address which will point to a location far away from your real physical location (a concern that has been popping out a lot recently). A very solid option for this is Tunnelbear. They have a paid version ($50USD a year, if you use that link you'll get a discount), but their features are worth it, at least IMO. It also works on Mac OS. You can set it up so it'll still show you as someone from your country of origin but with a different geolocated IP address (Say you're in Oregon, your masked IP will show up as if you're in New York, for example).

NOTE: Some people have been noticing that a few sites won't let them login when using a VPN (such as clips4sale). I don't know if the issue is affecting everyone but, just to be sure, email your camsite and ask them if there'd be any way to log in when using a proxy. Technically speaking, there shouldn't be any problem but it's better to ask.

    * Use a browser for camming stuff only. Something like Firefox, for example. And use other browsers for everything else (Chrome, Opera or whatever you'd like). Point is to keep a browser for camming things ONLY. It's always good to do this to avoid mixing things up between your cam life and your regular life.

    * DO NOT use your personal email address for camming related stuff (including but not limited to: registering to cam sites, social networking and marketing). Instead, use a Google Mail e-mail address for everything related to camming and link all your camming stuff to that. Why Gmail? Well, e-mails have something called "header", which contains information regarding the IP address of the sender. This can allow the receiver to find out whta's our IP and find us. Gmail, however, does NOT shows the full header, which makes it almost impossible to trace and makes it safer for us to avoid being tracked down.

    * If you're using social networks, use the gmail address to register them and don't let them reveal your physical location. Both Facebook and Twitter have features to share your physical location. Turn them off. I also suggest you all to NOT use your camming social networking account in a smartphone, just to be safe. Or use a separate phone for that. NOTE: Recent versions of apps like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram let you use multiple accounts under the same app, I personally use this feature and it's been getting better over time. Just make sure you're familiar with the apps and use them wisely.

    * Change your wireless network settings to avoid someone steals your connection. All you have to do is to access your router and change your password to a strong one (with lowercase and capital letters, numbers and symbols like @#~$&) an change the security protocol to WPA2 with AES. That will keep hackers away.

More info will be added to this thread as I and other members collect more information, so it will be edited constantly. If you have any more suggestions please PM me and I'll gladly add them. Also, if this could be a sticky or become part of the "starting place for camgirls" thread, I'd appreciate it.

Please share the info you have, girls!

a minor one but if youre discreet about your location - look behind you when you cam. Do you have school signage up? Calendar of events? your child's name or pics? do you broadcast your local radio station that regularly announces local adverts?

Id rather not elaborate why for these but some may be obvious:
-sign up for sites with a passport (aka something that does not have your address on it) or an outdated license

-keep your cam pictures your cam pictures, modeling pictures your modeling pictures, escorting pictures your escorting pictures, and your personal pictures your personal pictures.

-ask yourself each time you tweet or post blogs if the content is for yourself or for your audience. if youre not sure, dont post it. your camming twitter doesnt need to know you checked in on foursquare, they dont need to see pics of children, they dont need to know the full name ofyour newborn. try to keep a personal twitter if you have a hard time stopping yourself from spilling your guts on your camming twitter, youll start to figure out the difference between appropriate and inappropriate.

-avoid camgirl drama. dont give tons of personal info to someone you know for under 6months. 6months is enough time to gauge someone's behavior. if theyre always in fights, dont get close. if they seem really mellow, go for it but still remain reserved to a point unless you really really know them. camgirl drama is where people are brutal and reveal some of the most ridiculously personal things about each other as publicly as possible.

    Great Thread!

Do you listen to the radio while you cam? If so go and find an online radio station so you can change stations to different states and in some cases different countries.

What do you drink? Do you drink bottled water? If so you may be careful since certain bottled water companies only deliver to specific states. One of my regs try to figure out where I was just on drinking water alone.

Time? Do you have a clock displayed?
Be suspicious of anyone asking you " what time is it? Why because they know what time it is. They just want to find out your approximate location.

Weather? You don't think this gives you away? Sure it does. Tornado citing? , worrying about hurricane? typhoon, earth quake or any other natural disaster? Of course you would and may want to share but that means you've also given your approximate location.

I have had men sit in my room and ask me where are you? When that doesn't work they will try subtle things like. Hey what time are you going to be on again? If you say 7pm then he would respond with " is that eastern, pacific, mountain or central. So being vague works best. If you have a schedule on your profile already then he need not ask especially if you stick to it. You can very easily state : check my schedule I'm not sure.

Try to stay away from windows unless it's nighttime throughout the entire country, same goes for daytime. Again this is dangerous because it could be sundown where you are and still light out somewhere else.

When you have quiet people in your room that never speak. Those are the ones you may be concerned with because they are they ones you forget are there.

    THIS.

A while ago I remember wearing a tank top which showed the name of the tattoo parlor I'd go to. I realized that wasn't cool, so I stopped doing it.

Also, I make sure my son's backpack (which has his name on it) and other items with my or his name aren't in the cam's view. Some guys pay attention to even small details of what you say and have visible on cam.

Thanks for sharing! I should get that hotspot shield. Unfortunately I use Firefox for everything and don't want to use IE for camming, hopefully Google Chrome works with SM.

    I read a good point on the forum the other day about guys checking up on what we say in SW. I think it might be a really good idea to either;

censor a little bit what you say on here, or
make sure your screen name here is not identifiable on your camsites.

I think its easy to be freer with your words and thoughts on SW and it could trip you up.

Alright, a girl asked be via PM if using a VPN would cause issues when logging into a cam site. She was having problems with Clips4sale. To be honest, I don't know about this. I'd suggest you all to email your cam site and ask them if using a proxy/VPN would cause conflicts with the site. It shouldn't, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

What exactly do you mean? Just clear the browsing data in Firefox and use that for camming. Use Chrome for everything else.

I called one of my friends who is a computer repair technician about a virus recently. They suggest Malware Bytes and it's a great antivirus. You can DL the free version and it's 24.00 to buy the yearly subscription. They update sometimes more than once a week. They also send you a backup CD in the mail.

As for a firewall, some are better than others. I use Windows.

If you are running off of a wireless, disable it when your PC is not using the internet. That's for everyone, not just camming. Also make sure it's encrypted so neighbors cannot use it.

Secondly, I have always used online proxy servers like Hidemyass.com and Zend2.com. Buying one isn't really necessary.

Don't download files from anyone. Nobody can get your IP through Yahoo Messenger unless you accept a file download I believe to be 3MB or larger.

And as another poster mentioned, make your room bare/generic. I have my window covered so it looks like night time all the time.

Look at the location where you say you live. Know it's geography and time zone, at least. When you say I'll be on at 7PM make sure you know whether it's EST or CST or whatever where you "live".

Never tell real stories about yourself. Become a whole different person with different experiences. I don't care if you love rap music. Tell them you love country. Make a mix cd of music yourself on your own pc and use that. Never use a radio station unless it's satellite radio. Obviously you can listen to the music you like but if your favorite band is Nickelback, just don't tell them that.

I just lie about everything. Whenever someone asks me a question I lie. Either I use my friends background that I modeled myself after with a few hints of my own imagination or I just plain out lie. For example, I cannot stand steak. So one time a guy asked me what's your favorite food? I said steak. I know if I choose what I hate, I'll never forget to keep the same story. Same with movies. I love scary movies but my cam persona loves love stories. I'm sure you get it. Because a lot of times if you make up lies, eventually you will trip up. So just use the opposite of you.

NEVER log onto your cam site via a phone. My site has an app that I can use to log on if I want. Obviously i can't cam but i could check my messages via smartphone. NO NO NO. Just don't use smartphones for that or to accept/send e mails to anyone associated with camming. Never give out your real cell if it's associated with a smart phone. And I'd suggest to NEVER give out your twitter/fb/myspace or any other social networking site info. If you want, make one for your camgirl persona only adding people from the cam world and only using your cam girl photos.

The town I say I'm from is in California, where I've been on vacation many times. So I know the location. It's also where my friend has lived. Try to pick a town that you have been to but don't live there. That way if someone from that town visit your room you can talk about things relative to their location. It's happened to me before and it worked.

Most of these guys aren't going to be stalkers and aren't going to be eyeballing every detail of your room. But...the ones that creep me out are the ones who aren't all about business. The ones who want to get friendly. Ask for skype or ask for twitter accounts. Those creep me out because I'm thinking how do you time to be online ALL the time and in my room EVERY time I'm online. Obviously I'm not their gf and I'm not nice to my customers because my customers want to be abused and humiliated. So that can't be it. I usually end up banning these guys if they aren't spending tons of money on me after about three days of them sitting in my chat room.

Never use Amazon wish lists. Your address is NOT private. They can see the city if they try hard enough. Accept e gift cards to an anonymous e mail address ONLY. If that's not good enough for them, then can walk. Guys want amazon all the time and I'm like nope. And when I tell them it's not secure they try to argue but...I know better.

Also, if I were you and I had a facebook, I'd set my FB to private and I'd use a picture that isn't of myself as my main photo? Maybe a funny pic you got from a photo hosting site or a pinup girl, etc. That way nobody can know it's you for sure and they can't see your info. Employers will also not really know if it's you or not when they go looking. Of course, this would only be helpful if a stalker got your REAL city and your name to scan FB for someone who remotely looked like you. I've tried to find friends I went to school with and had their name and city and it was hard for me to find them on fb without an e mail.

Also, write all e mails and passwords in a book or on a paper for everything you do. Keep each account separate. I'm not worried about blacking out my address on my ID. I feel pretty confident that ImLive isn't going to give my information to a stalker. And last but not least, get a dog and a gun. And if you really want to be a badass, put your gun in the background haha. I'm sure if someone saw a gun rack with three or four rifles on it in the background, they might think twice about it. It'd be pretty "country" but funny none the less. And it's common knowledge, at least by my customers from European countries/British colonies like Australia, etc that they think every American has a gun, and we'll shoot people for even stepping onto our property. Whether it's true or not lol.

When talking to public chat about how your day went, keep certain details out of it. For example, if you were on the phone with your friend 15 minutes ago, don't tell your public chat that your friend asked "Ariana, are we still meeting at the McDonald's in Times Square at 5:00?"

Once it's installed, there should be a red icon in the lower right part of your screen (or where the icons are placed in Windows 7, next to the clock and network icons). Right click on that, and select "connect/ON". Now, I've never come across that issue. Would you mind to show a screeenshot over PM of that part?

Hey bubblegum, did you get to solve your problem? I haven't gotten any PM from you.

And one more thing: It's not completely necessary to turn off your WiFi when not using it. Just change the security protocol to WPA2 with AES encryption and use a strong password. That should be way more than enough.

I agree! I went into one of the the top girls rooms last night, only to find her giving the name of not only her town, but her boyfriend's dog's name((the guy who is blowing her off), and how he took him to the vet-easy info now for some one to find out where she lives. She even mentioned getting a gun, and showed many types while online, saying that she was scared because she's getting her own place soon, goes hiking in the woods near her home,is in night college, where there are a lot of woods, etc.
I have made the mistake only ONCE intelling someone which town i live in,because a regular customer told me he's from my town-He then got obsessed with meeting me, and even came into my room to tell me that he was at a coffee shop and could I meet him. I said that I was only kidding and didn't really live there, and he got so pissed off that he never came back to my room again.
***A lot of guys ask where you live I guess because I have heard girls tell guys in her free chat that she is an escort, and not only what she charges, but to e-mail her to meet up! The customers are just confused and hoping you will meet them also,(whether for free sex,or to pay you.) Plus, remember that the other sites that sm advertises always have girls popping up asking guys to meet them because they live in the same area.)
When a customer in free chat keeps asking where i am from over and over, I just say ALASKA, he says, 'oh', then he leaves the room, and never comes back!
