    Default Quitting smoking

24 hours without a cig so far. I must quit and be nicotine free because I am getting breast implants in March and I need my surgery and recovery to go much smoother! I also just need to quit in general, and it will make gym time easier!

Can anybody offer me success stories or words of encouragement during this time?

Hang in there! It's hard to quit, but worth it. I was two packs a day, and used Wellbutrin to quit. It's been almost 13 years now without a cig. If a major tobacco addict like me could do it, so can you :-)

I stayed away from work for 3 days. Technically, you are nicotine free after 3 days. And the mental withdrawal gets much easier after 10 days. I invested in watermelon flavor jolly rancher lollipops. They take about 30 minutes to eat, and by the time I was done I was past my oral cravings. Good luck!!

Jolly rancher lollipops! I didn't think about that! Yes. . I can hold off 2 more days. I wish I had wellbutrin right now, it would help a ton! I don't have health insurance though so I guess that isn't a viable option. Thank you girls for the stories. Any positive story I hear helps soooo much.

I'm quitting on the 2nd. I quit about 10 years ago with welbutrin and was smoke free for almost 8 years. I started smoking again when my marriage started to fall apart.

I'm going cold turkey this time, didn't like the side effects I got with welbutrin plus I don't have health insurance right now so I can't afford it. I"m quitting with two friends. We're each putting in $25 and the first two to cave lose their $$. Motivation to not cave! Maybe you can find others that want to quit and do something similar.

    Good luck!

I've seen online where you mix a little cream of tartar in orange juice
and drink that a couple times a day and supposedly it helps detox
the nicotine out of you faster? Not sure as I'm not a smoker.

I recommend trying to sweat it out via hot showers and exercise,
and taking n-acetyl-cysteine for lung detox which I can personally recommend
from when I inhaled a lot of second handsmoke regularly at work.

I recently quit also and am a couple months smoke free. I had to stay away from work for a week or two honestly since we get free cigs provided by the house mom. I went cold turkey when I finally admitted to myself that people could smell it on me and it might be affecting my looks already etc. My bf is a smoker so I had to ask him to smoke away from me.

I'm quitting too! Although I just had a cigarette, it was my first one in 2 weeks and triggered by some aggravation. I ended up feeling pretty bad, but I'm starting over from here!

I've quit cold turkey before, and I can do it now!

Haven't had a smoke since Sunday. I'm pretty impressed with myself since I was a two pack a day smoker. This is all cold turkey. I pretty much just decided I'm done with smoking. That and I've had a few people tell me I can't do it. The easiest way to get me to do something is to tell me I can't, I'll prove you wrong.

    this is my suggestion

    put yourself to the test

can you keep off the cigarette?
are you mind driven? goal oriented? do you have strong will power? are you determined? can you prevail?

by all means this objective must and will be met and there is no criteria that will intervene and make me smoke...

i made a decision and im sticking to it

remember if there is a will there is indeed a way

    best of luck

Depending on where you live there may be a "study" you can go to participate in. My mom had went to one last summer. They gave her free stuff to quit smoking (the pills nicotine patches etc...) She just had to go in every week while they monitored her. This program was funded by the University Of Minnesota.

I am sure there are programs or University near you that do this. I wish you luck!
