So, I've been purchasing random, inexpensive E-books about dancing. Two have been non-fiction so far.
I began reading the second one yesterday. It's called: "A String of Pearls: A View into the Lives of Exotic Dancers. By Whylie, Passion.
Here are a couple of sentences that made me want to throw my iPad across the room:
" Whatever the reason, no dancer becomes one for the hell of it; most dancers don't like it, and if they did, they would not need drugs and alcohol to get them through the night".
I'm fuming! She can't speak for every dancer. I choose to dance because I was curious and had always fantasized about being a go-go dancer since I was around 11! I still look forward to packing my costumes, finding new music and that fact that I never know what will happen the day I'm working. The spontaneous nature is alluring.
Maybe I'm taking this personally because i just woke up, but I think/know a lot of us on this board like what we do. I have non-dancer friends who want to have our job , but are too afraid/shy/not confident enough to do it.
*Btw, this writer also says that sex usually does happen in the VIP or Champagne room.
