Default Question for experienced exotic dancers, need help please EMERGENCY!!

I am new to the industry and I have a serious question....Is there any definitive proof out there that says that you can't receive an STD from the pole?

I heard from some others that it is possible. I have a 3 yeard old daughter and this is devestating! Is there any way a virus like herpes can stay alive that long? Can it transfer through a tiny open wound maybe? I haven't slept with a man for over 6 months. They said they think the virus was dorment (spelling?) in my system, but I'm think it's from our line of work.

    Thoughts? Thank you in advance.

I've never heard of this nor have I knew anyone who contracted a STD from this. However, I am very concerned about hygiene and when dancing on poles I would never touch the pole unless I was wearing a thong. This is across the board and I don't let my private area touch anything that could have anything.

No STD's yet, babycakes, and I've been about 5 years in the business at this point.

I'm honestly more worried about catching STD's from a public toilet than I am from a regular lap-dance these days.

Mind you, if you're super paranoid - Baby Wipes can help ease the worrying (even if they don't do much in terms of killing bacteria).

You could always clean the pole before starting your set. I work with a few dancers who do this.

You see I think this is where I think I've messed up a few times. But I don't think I could get a virus that way....I hope I'm wrong!

You can have herpes for a long time before showing symptoms. I do not think it is likely (or even possible in normal situations) that you got herpes from the pole. What IS possible is that you had herpes, and the stress on your body of working odd hours, maybe not getting enough sleep, or even the possible irritation to your nether regions from giving lap dances (if you work in a lap dance club), triggered an outbreak.

No, it is not possible at all to get any sort of std from a pole or a stage in any way, shape or form. On the other hand, infections such as staph, mrsa or cellulitus from a pole or a stage is completely possible. They are highly contagious & very icky. I should know -I seem to be pretty damn prone to them. So sanitizing the pole & the stage is always a must anyways.

Either way, regular std testing every few months or w/ every new partner should be practiced by everyone, anyways. Free clinics can be a real life saver.

The virus can remain dormant for months, years, and even decades.

Odds are you got it from a partner (keep in mind, asymptomatic transmission is totally common).

There is some anecdotal evidence that suggests the virus can survive on objects and surfaces for an extended period of time... but conditions have to be ideal. You can read about it here: http://jama.ama-assn.org/content/250/22/3081.abstract

Again, this is not possible. Do not scare her. People really need to educate themselves about stds, infections, or any other common thing that most people really should know these days. Otherwise, it's just pure ignorance. In fact, rather than ask any of us -just go get tested by your primary doctor & have him explain all of this to you -just so you do not get inaccurate or ignorant info, just in case. Btw, foxrc)310 -if you do have hep b or c then you should be really aware of how it is actually transfered. And if you are not, then you need to correct those around you & be more aware of how you advise people in a chat forum. Sorry.

    Hepatitis B
    Transmission

Transmission of hepatitis B virus results from exposure to infectious blood or body fluids containing blood. Possible forms of transmission include sexual contact, blood transfusions, re-use of contaminated needles & syringes, and vertical transmission from mother to child (MTCT) during childbirth. Without intervention, a mother who is positive for HBsAg confers a 20% risk of passing the infection to her offspring at the time of birth. This risk is as high as 90% if the mother is also positive for HBeAg. HBV can be transmitted between family members within households, possibly by contact of nonintact skin or mucous membrane with secretions or saliva containing HBV.[42][43] However, at least 30% of reported hepatitis B among adults cannot be associated with an identifiable risk factor.[44] And Shi et al. showed that breastfeeding after proper immunoprophylaxis did not contribute to MTCT of HBV.[45]

    Hepatitis C
    Transmission
Hepatitis C infection in the United States by source

The primary methods of transmission in the developed world is intravenous drug use (IDU), while in the developing world the main methods are blood transfusions and unsafe medical procedures.[17] The cause of transmission remains unknown in 20% of cases;[18] however, many of these are believed to be accounted for by IDU.[6]
    [edit] Intravenous drug use

IDU is a major risk factor for hepatitis C in many parts of the world.[19] Of a review of 77 countries 25 had rates of hepatitis C in the intravenous drug user population of between 60% and 80% including the United States[7] and China.[19] While twelve countries had rates greater than 80%.[7] It is believed that ten million intravenous drug users are infected with hepatitis C; China (1.6 million), the United States (1.5 million), and Russia (1.3 million) have the highest absolute totals.[7] Rates of hepatitis C among prison inmates in the United States are ten to 20 times that of the rates of the general population, which is attributed to high-risk behavior such as IDU and tattooing with nonsterile equipment.[20][21]
    [edit] Healthcare exposure

Blood transfusion, blood products, or organ transplantation without HCV screening is a significant risk for infection.[5] The United States instituted universal screening in 1992 and the risk subsequently has decreased to one in 10,000 to 10,000,000 per units of blood[18][6] down from a risk of one in 200 units of blood.[22] This low risk remains as there is a period of about 11–70 days between the potential blood donor acquiring hepatitis C and their blood testing positive depending on the method.[18] Some countries still do not screen for hepatitis C due to the cost.[11]

Those who have experienced a needle stick injury from someone who was HCV positive have about a 1.8% chance of subsequently contacting the disease themselves.[5] The risk is greater if the needle in question is hollow and the puncture wound is deep.[11] There is a risk from mucosal exposures to blood; but this risk is low, and there is no risk if blood exposure occurs on intact skin.[11]

Hospital equipment has also been documented as a method of transmission of hepatitis C including: reuse of needles and syringes, multiple-use medication vials, infusion bags, and improperly sterilized surgical equipment, among others.[11] Limitations in the implementation and enforcement of stringent standard precautions in public and private medical and dental facilities are known to be the primary cause of the spread of HCV in Egypt, the country with highest rate of infection in the world.[23]
    [edit] Sexual intercourse

Whether hepatitis C can be transmitted through sexual activity is controversial.[24] While there is an association between high-risk sexual activity and hepatitis C, it is not known whether transmission of the disease is due to drug use that has not been admitted to or sex as a risk factor.[5] The majority of evidence supports there being no risk for monogamous heterosexual couples.[24] Sexual practices that involve higher levels of trauma to the anogenital mucosa, such as anal penetrative sex, or that occur when there is a concurrent sexually transmitted infection, including HIV or genital ulceration, do present a risk.[24] The United States government only recommends condom use to prevent hepatitis C transmission in those with multiple partners.[25]
    [edit] Body piercings

Tattooing is associated with two to three fold increased risk of hepatitis C.[26] This can be due to either improperly sterilized equipment or contamination of the dyes being used.[26] Tattoos or piercings performed either before the mid-1980s, "underground," or nonprofessionally are of particular concern, since sterile techniques in such settings may be lacking. The risk also appears to be greater for larger tattoos.[26] It is estimated that nearly half of prison inmates share unsterilized tattooing equipment.[26] It is rare for tattoos in a licensed facility to be directly associated with HCV infection.[27]
    [edit] Shared personal care items

Personal-care items such as razors and manicuring or pedicuring equipment can be contaminated with blood. Sharing such items can potentially lead to exposure to HCV.[28][29] Appropriate caution should be taken regarding any medical condition that results in bleeding, such as cuts and sores.[29] HCV is not spread through casual contact, such as hugging, kissing, or sharing eating or cooking utensils.[29]
    [edit] Vertical transmission

Vertical transmission of hepatitis C from an infected mother to her child occurs in less than 10% of pregnancies.[30] There are no measures that alter this risk.[30] It is not clear when during pregnancy transmission occurs, but it may occur both during gestation and at delivery.[18] A long labor is associated with a greater risk of transmission.[11] There is no evidence that breast-feeding spreads HCV; however, to be cautious, an infected mother is advised to avoid breastfeeding if her nipples are cracked and bleeding,[31] or her viral loads are high.[18]

    Excuse me?

Eight girls got HepB/C at a club?

Are they shooting-up and sharing needles in the dressing room or are they just tattooing each other with unsanitary equipment?

Catching HepB/C from a pole is impossible. Sorry.

This sounds like an excuse 8 girls who were smart enough to share needles would use.

I also say its pretty much impossible... especially from the pole. Maybe if some girl had an really bad active outbreak and you sat on same cloth seat as her right after her... but still highly unlikely. I should hope to god that someone with a raging outbreak is not going to be working in the first place.. But ya as other girls said can lie dormant in your system for ages. A friend of mine got his first ever cold sore recently his wife was drilling him about how he got it and his doc said it was highly unlikely he just caught the virus now... probably there for at least 20 yrs and stress brought it out.

22 years on the pole and in the club...I have never caught a single thing other than the common cold.
Don't stress too much, these things happen to lots of people and you will be fine.

We have a can of Lysol spray and a rag on the corner of the stage at my club and I feel like one of the only girls who doesn't spray the pole down at the beginning of my set. I'm too busy looking sexy to be a germophobe. Same with squatting over toilets. Plus who actually rubs their pussy on that stuff?

I never wipe the pole either...find it distracting...I am up there to do a show, not housework.
