Default Threw up 2 hours after taking birth control pill... what to do?

So something I ate for dinner did not agree with me. I took my pill around 7.15pm with my dinner and also a multi vitamin, probiotic and 24hr antacid (because tummy was already starting to hurt). I threw up around 9.15pm - seemed that a lot of my dinner was still in there (TMI I know)...

My concerns are I took the antacid at same time as pill which I believe antacids slow digestion. Also was 2 hours enough for it to absorb. It was my second pill in the pack. Should I just take another one now or not worry. I really hate condoms and seeing as its the second in the pack I really don't feel like using them for an entire month... thoughts? suggestions?

I really wouldn't know the answer, so I looked it up. This is what the internet had to say:
    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...7152155AA7Me7v
    (They said take another one).

I agree, go ahead and take another one now and ask your doctor for a "backup" pack in case it happens again. Better safe than sorry, right?

ETA: okay, here are some better sources than Yahoo Answers, and they basically say the same thing. If you threw up w/in 2 hours, go ahead and take another one. If it was longer than 2 hours, you should be fine. So in your case, take another one.

I would bust out the condoms, seriously. I have a baby and I love her, but if you're not trying for one better to be safe than sorry. Please use condoms!

Eek, (according to my doctor) you shouldn't be taking a multivitamin with your birth control pills. There is a chance for some of the minerals in the multivitamin to act as a chelator, lowering the efficacy of the hormones in the birth control. What I usually do is take the birth control pill RIGHT before bed (also avoids any upset stomach), and take a multivitamin with breakfast. As for this problem... second pill in the pack probably means it's not a big deal, but use condoms just in case.

^^ Yeah, I was wondering about taking a multivitamin at the same time also.
I didn't know about any possible interactions (but that's scary!), but more because multivitamins can be hard on the stomach, so taking those pills together won't help any nausea problems you're already having.

Thanks for the info girls... Ill just use condoms... *sigh* even though it was just after 2 hours. Im 29 and been sexually active and on the pill for over 13 years (sex almost everyday - Ive never been single in my life) without an accident - I take my pill at the exact same time everyday. Ive only forgotten 3 times in 13 years!

I take it with dinner because thats the only consistent part of my day - being a uni student and dancer some days I might go to bed at 10pm and the next night 5am so I tend to forgot the timing if its bedtime and same for morning - some days I might wake up at 6.30am and others 2pm.

Ill try and take the multi-v when I wake up and my pill still with dinner then they will always be 5 hours apart at least. The reason my stomach got upset is I have numerous food intolerances and must have eaten something Im intolerant to unknowingly. Im feeling much better today but as usual now afraid to eat... this always happens after one of these episodes.

    Thanks for all your help!

My doctor told me that missing two pills in a pack is ok, if you miss three then you have to crack out the condoms. She called it the "three strikes and you're out" rule.

^BOM were you taking it at the same time everyday and never missed any? If so thats shocking... any reason why? antibiotics or something? Maybe it just doesn't work well for some people... Like I said 13 years - no condoms for prob 8 of them accept with on antibiotics and never had a problem, but I always take at same time and almost never forgot. I actually have only forgotten those 3 times after I was married because obviously less of an issue if I did get preggers now... but really don't want to.

I got pregnant on the nuvaring and you can't mess that up. I know I didn't mess it up. Different bodies just reject different things.

My sister has gotten pregnant like 5+ (that I know of) times on the pill and even on the shot. The pill you can mess up, but the shot and nuvaring are very hard to mess up. I also know several other people who have gotten pregnant on birth control taken correctly on time.

Its sad that birth control is still one-size-fits-all these days. Our genetic makeup is so different from each others.

if you're worried, use condoms for 7 days. It only takes 7 days for the pill to build up in your system enough again that you don't have to worry about it. However, if you were to get an IUD, you wouldn't have to worry about any of this stuff I seriously love my IUD

    +1!
I've had the Paragard since 2007, and I absolutey love it. A one-time payment (I think mine was around $600), and you don't need to worry about birth control costs for the next 10 years. I don't have to remember to do anything, I can just get my groove on whenever I want and know I won't get preggers. (My SO and I have both been tested for all STDs, and we're in a monogamous LTR.) Hooray for IUDs!!

@GlamourRouge: I seriously cannot stop watching that gif in your siggy. It's hypnotic.

It doesn't work in everyone though. My uterus was too small for it. But its a good option if you've had children before or if your uterus is big enough and you don't want children anytime soon.
