Default Help deciding on a new laptop???

I'm super excited for this because for my first year camming I've been stuck working on cheap 1gb netbooks which means no splitcamming, no hd streaming, and constant lagging and freezing. I've been doing research on the forums for what I need for camming, but need some specific advice...

This one I was set on until I noticed it said 1.4ghz?!

    And then there's this one...

    http://electronics.hsn.com/gateway-1...p!sf!dept!6849

Would either of these be decent for splitcamming/hd/video editing? I'm kind of desperate at the moment because my pathetic little mini laptop is having issues just running MFC and pandora without crashing (loses me quite a bit of money)...or even a single camsite at once without lag...so I know either of these would be better than the laptop I have, but which would you choose from the two? Or should I wait a couple weeks and get something better? Thanks!!

First of all, what's your budget?

If you're in trouble with money, then the first laptop (the Acer) should be ok for a while. Both have pretty much the same specs, but the Acer has 6GB of RAM. Also, don't underestimate that CPU. Trust me, for camming, it should be fine.

I'm not American, sorry. I've never heard of HSN before until today.

Anyway, if you can somehow afford to spend a liiitle bit more, this laptop isn't that bad:

But like I said, the first laptop you showed us should do fine.

Yikes..thanks I'm just looking at laptops with payment plans (no interest) for now because I have alot to pay for at the moment (lawyer, moving next week, car fixed, kids, debt, etc) but need to start making better money ASAP because this mini just isn't cutting it right now and an extra $10+ an hour that I could possibly get from my privates not freezing or being able to stream in HD or splitcam would be a tremendous help...

Thank you! I really like that one, but anyone know the importance of ghz?

It's not about the CPU's clockspeed only. There are MANY other factors that come in when talking about CPU performance: Architecture design, technologies used, cache, cache level, number of cores, etc.

Those two laptops you displayed use the same CPU, which is a quadcore CPU. According to some reviews I've read, it's a pretty decent CPU and it should deliver. If you really wanna make sure you can stream in HD or splitcam, though, maybe you should invest in that Asus laptop. It'd be your best bet, just to be sure. But like I said, if you're really short in money, the Acer laptop is not a bad investment. Just pair it with a good webcam like a Logitech C615.

Gracias! I think that's the one I'm going with then! Have had luck with Acers in the past... :} I'm using the C910 btw, it does the job.

I'd like to buy a laptop strictly for camming. I love my iMac desktop but I'd love to be more mobile. Since I only need the laptop for camming, I'd like to spend as little as possible, like ~$400. I've found some refurbished ones in that price range but I'm not sure what will work with camming with the encoder on SM. I've asked SM about it but they're no help. First I read that I needed at least a 2.4 ghz processor. Then I was told that any dual core processor would work. And then I was told that the way processors work now, you can't really go by the ghz anyway but that any i7 would work. Can anyone help explain what it is I actually need in a laptop for camming?

    Do any of these work?

Out of all those laptops, your best bet would be the Acer. As long as you don't splitcam the i5 processor should be fine for camming.

    Hey computer geeks, ;-)

I need some advice, as I am on the market for a new laptop. This will be my ONLY computer, so it will be used for camming AND everything else. I am really allergic to upgrading laptops.. I like to purchase new machines as infrequently as possible, and therefore, I am looking to get something GOOD, so I don't have to replace it until 2019. :-)

I need: Solid state drive, i7. Screen no bigger than 14-ish", because it needs to be a reasonable size to lug around.
Would be nice: Built in cam, more than 2 USB ports, preferably at least one of them being USB3, HDMI port.

I really don't give a shit about how 'pretty' it is. Somehow I can't get myself to care about that. (Plus, the uglier it is, the less likely to get stolen? LOL.)

Budget: Assume it's unlimited. I'd like to spend $1300-$1500, but if I find a WAY MORE AMAZING one for $1600-$2k, it's not a deal-breaker.

    Thanks!!! :-)
