Search Doing it for real...bleach my hair or stick with wigs

The title is pretty self explantory. I have been making wayyyy easier $$$$$ blonde. (or variations thereof) Problem is wigs get nappy and need to get tossed out. I was talking to another SW member about going honey blonde IRL, but I'm just so reluctant. The last time I bleached my hair was with that shitty hot topic bleach and it broke off and I had to have a short cut until it grew out. Now its long, dark and very pretty. I just don't know. Anyone with dark to black hair have any insight?

honestly, youre better off going with a little more expensive wig for 2 reasons
number 1 it lasts longer and noticibility is minimal
number 2 all this bleaching and coloring is way unhealthy for the hair
so there you have your answer

You have two options (as I see it).

Invest some money and get a great wig.

    -or-

Invest some money and hire an amazing hair stylist that will get the job done without frying your hair.

I suggest that you look into finding a good wig brand so that the wig doesn't tangle up and get all ratty on you.

I agree with the above posters.
Invest in a really good wig.
    (or a really good stylist)

By the time you do it for real (yourself), you'll have spent as much money on bleaching it as you will on a good wig/stylist.

It CAN be done, but if your hair is really long and pretty now, it won't be after you're done bleaching it. You'll lose a lot of hair.

(just go through my FB photo's, you can see what I had, and all the process I went through to get it to where it is...lol)
My hair was getting really long, and now, it's short.
It's finally growing out now and is a lot healthier...so that makes me happy.

You can always invest in some extensions though if you do decide to do it yourself and have to cut your hair.

I think because you have dyed your hair black with box dye so many times, it is going to be hard to get it to a honey blonde shade. And really damaging :/ I'd stick with the wigs or you could 'highlight' your hair with blonde clip-in extensions. I understand wigs can be a bitch though, my friend used to wear one and it would get ratty pretty quick, they also get really hot!

Go blonde slowly. It really suits you and looks amazing. No point in wigging it for the next few years.

Save up, go see a stylist and get your hair lightened gradually. You don't necessarily HAVE to lose a ton of hair - look at BOTM's most recent black to blonde transition.

How many years of black dye to you have on it? Don't you also have a layer of burgundy in there too? Getting it blonde is going to be a huge pain, and destroy your hair. Work on growing your hair back out to virgin (it sucks, I know this, I'm halfway through this process myself), and then go with the blonde. In the meantime, I agree- get a high quality wig. You might ask dtxgirl on here where she got hers. She's a redhead but used a blonde wig when we worked together, it had roots and everything.

if you dye your hair dark buy colour b4 which is a hair stripper and doesnt contain peroxide. itll shrink the dye molecules so they can slip through the hair shaft and washes the dye out. itll leave you with either medium brown/red or gingery hair and doesnt damage your hair at all (it just makes it dry so you need to deep condition after). make sure to wash it out for absolutely ages before you go to a salon or bleach it yourself though as the residues can reoxidise when bleach touches it and turns your hair dark again.

if your hair is dark naturally then ignore this as colour b4 cant remove natural hair pigment, only bleach can

Don't bleach your hair! Getting there will really damage it, and it will be really expensive to a) dye the roots every month and b) buy the products you need to keep it healthy.
You really do need to buy a whole bunch of expensive shampoos and treatments to keep it healthy. And even then, it won't be as healthy as before you bleached it.
I'm speaking from experience, you really should invest in a great wig! its my vote 100%

Get the black dye lifted professionally.
IMO - It's far better to do that than to just start bleaching.

Thanks to everyone that replied. I'm gonna stick with wigs for now. It would just be a royal pain in the arse to do anything involving bleaching, especially with boxed hair dye. I'll just leave my hair alone and stick with my wigs.

Good decision. I have naturally med. brown, fine curly hair. Since I was born blonde, I chose to go back there. I did it with a trusted stylist who has the same type of hair that I do. We did it slowly and only highlights. It took a while, but my hair is long and in great condition and I'm old, (so it is possible to not damage your hair). I rarely blow dry, use a flat iron maybe once a month at most and deep condition the hell out of it. I have only died my hair at home once...and it was a disaster. At least it was only temporary (was trying to go darker).

I used to wear wigs when my hair was shorter too. It does get a bit hot and itchy, but it helped my hair grow.

If possible, maybe you should try and get it dyed at a salon from now on. Even though its probably too risky to lift the colour immediately you'd be on the way to being able to lift it in the future if you wanna be a blonde-titty-titty-bombshell all the time

I voted for wigs. Good quality too, so you don't have to toss it out so soon and be less noticeable.
