I thought this might fit well in this thread. So, for well over a year, one of the clubs I work in has "punk rock night". I had wanted to work it for a long time, but my schedule couldn't fit it in. Last night it finally happened. I was looking forward to it, even though I heard the $$ had gone way down since the original DJ and so had the fans that followed him as well as the more alternative dancers.
But I didn't care. I was ready for a night of great punk which would have been a nice change from the rap and hip-hop that is spun at most clubs. So I did my make-up and hair to fit the punk mood and wore this great outfit which included 8 in British flag boots.
When I got there, only one other dancer had the "look". The music that was played was way more rock than punk. So, I threw down some Ramones. I did ok with that one. (This is mostly a stage club). I noticed the music was really more on the rock side with the exception of a couple of Clash songs and some Rancid. So, I went with the Sex Pistols. Did. Not. Work. It turns out that most of the guys in there were not even aware it was a themed night. Most of them had no idea what the genre was. And as cute as my outfit was, the British flag thing was not winning me many fans. So, I changed my outfit, and modernized my playlist, reluctantly.
But THIS is what got to me: Since when is Jay-Z punk rock??? Seriously, Jay-Z's "99 Problems"??? It's not like I don't like him. I've got some of his music downloaded. But punk?? HELL NO!
I was really looking forward to working a fun, themed eclectic night. But it was just like any other. No more fake punk rock nights for me![]()
