    Default quitting dancing sort of

i told myself that when i started averaging less than 500 a night i would be out. and since coming back from asia, november has been less than 500 a ngiht as has janruary. i am not sure about december since it was so up and down (it would be like 1900 one night, 200 the next, then 1000, then 150 etc etc).

i posted a while back about pedicabbing... started that a bit ago and i dont think i have noticed the amount of disrespect that dancers get until i started doing something else. i think you get used to a lot more in this industry than you realise, and it takes something different to compare. the amount of disrespect that we deal with from managers and customers alike is NOT normal.

the last straw day was wednesday. it was a slowwwwwwwwwwwww night.
-customer number one who i danced for was normal looking old white guy, well dressed, in town for a convention. during the dance he was creepy as fuck, kept asking for a peak (i work in a topless club) and kept trying to touch even though i said no and kept dirty talking to me.
-customer number 2 was a artifical sub who kept topping from the bottom. after some dances, he decided he was embarassed to lick my shoe in public so wanted a room. he was cheap and only had 280 in his account. he withdrew 260, but the atm only dispensed 220. he was impatient to start the room so i asked management if i could just give them 60 out of hte 100 of their cut for the room and start the room while they unlocked hte atm for the other 40. they said i could give them 100 and take the 120 and they would fish out the other 40 and give it to me when the half hr was up. after the half hour i come out, and they tell me they could not get the other 40 dollars from teh atm. my customer tried to argue with them on my behalf, but no success. so despite hte fact that i pay a house fee to work in a club with security, stages, customers, and WORKING ATMs, i get to take the hit. one of the managers gave me 15 dollars off my house fee, but still. this was a manager problem. not my problem. not my customers problem.
-customer number 3 was a younger nerdy looking meteorologist from denver. he buys 2 dances and i notice about half way thru the dance that he has a wet spot on his jeans. i am usually very good at making sure guys DO NOT come in their pants (only happened to me twice before to my knowledge), and he made no indication that he did, but either way i didnt notice the wet spot before and switched to doing ain air dance. i ask him if he wants to keep going and he says 'i used you, you used me' and walks off.

earnings for the night after all tip outs are done were slightly over 300.

anyway, i am sick of management that is so quick to throw girls under the bus and i am sick of the douchebags who walk through the door. after getting back from asia i partied myself into a financial hole that i am clawing my way out of. i should be square at the beginning of february, and after that i am cleaning out my locker. im not saying i am quitting dancing forever, but i am taking an indefinite break. i have decided that even though i make less pedicabbing, being able to get myself to work instead of spending my money will probably result in me having more money than the bad financial lifestyle i have developed over my last yr of stripping.

thats all. i have a few more vents about management that ill probably type up later. i cant even decide which i hate more these days, managers or customers.

The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

I can't believe your club wouldn't just take $40 out of your house fee, or reimburse you in some other way. You seem like you have a good history there and sell a lot of CR's. I mean, the management at my club would probably screw me over in the same situation, too, but I've never had it happen.

Enjoy your break from dancing! Even if you're making less, you won't have to worry about the crap that comes with stripping.

I'm switching jobs and taking an indefinite break, too, starting at the end of this month. I just wanna rob these men for all they're worth and high tail it outta there. haha

no, disrespect is not normal and should feel intolerable. and anytime dancing is stressful or unpleasant, one should do something else.
and you can always do something else, so good for you for deciding what is best for you.

No way I could work year round in nola! Especially for the hustler, deja vue chain who could give two shits about you as a person. Unfortunatley you are basically a number with that chain even if you constantly sell 2000 rooms and making you wait 30 days for your money is ridiculous! It might do you some good to travel after your break I find if I'm in one location too long I start to hate places, I know when I'm starting to notice management and hosts and stuff being annoying it's time for a new place.

I retired from dancing back at the beginning of December and don't regret it one single bit. It was fun while it lasted, but I got SO tired of dealing with douchebag customers, and getting my name dragged into all the dancer-generated drama. And the drastic drop-off in money was the straw that broke the camel's back. As long as I was making good money, I could deal with all the BS. Once it got to the point where I was barely breaking $100 every single night, I was done. Cleaned out my locker & moved into camming and back into being a Domme and haven't looked back!

Your not alone Athena. I'm of the mind it's time to give it up to the next generation of strippers. The shit I've had to deal with lately is just too much. I don't remember it being this way when I started. I believe it's getting worse and for less money. I refuse to put up with the disrespect for the pittance I was making. I'm worth more than that.

I know exactly how you feel. I am not going to rant and rave about what dancing/camming/the adult industry has been like lately because you know what athena, this is a POSITIVE CHANGE. All of us have settled for a horrible working environment working in any aspect of this industry, sacrificing our rights to a safe and sane working environment in exchange for money. When that money drops, it no longer makes the risk worth the reward.

If you are not happy you must move on, MONEY is not worth happiness. If you are happy in your job you will be much more sucessful. Hell even if you are making minimum wage, some nights dancing you MAKE LESS then that! Think about it..we have all had nights where we make less then minimum wage. I say go for it and CONGRATULATIONS because you deserve to be happy. If happiness to you is PEDICABBING, go for it!

One nice thing about being a dancer is you never have to retire for good, you can take long breaks and if you need a lil extra money, go in. The problem is, once you quit it will be more and more difficult to go back to that working environment. Soon even $500 on up a night wont be worth it to you.

I have sucessfully quit being a dancer, but I got into camming, although they are different, they are similar in so many ways. I see where camming industry is headed, and I do not want it to be a part of my future. There are SOOO MANY sw'ers who have expressed wanting to move on with their lives in the past few weeks. Maybe we should start a "quitting dancing challenge" thread. I wuold love to see the trials and tribulations of other dancers going thru the process of looking for "normal jobs" It is going to be a long road for me to be completely free, but I have to start somewhere. I think i will make the quitting dancing/camming challenge thread tomorrow so we can all post about our experiences trying to get out of this business!!

I'm grinding my teeth in sympathetic frustration over the ATM thing. I wish there was a way to force clubs to run like we (have to) pay them to, or have the ability to refuse to pay if not. If we don't function correctly at work, we don't get paid do we? Hell, sometimes we don't get paid even when we're functioning perfectly! But really the only options at this time, in this house fee system, are to quit or got to another club with a different flavor of the same fuckery. What a waste of your time!

Also, the attitude of Mr WhinyPantsEmoYouDon'tLoveMe Meteorologist (he probably cries after sex too) seems to be so much more rampant in the quarter. I think strippers on Bourbon are even less 'real people' to tourists than the strippers in their home state. Because Bourbon is barely real itself right? We're all just topless cartoon characters. The mythical locals here to feature in your drunken stories. It's seen as a giant adult playground where it's okay to do/act/say ANYTHING you want, because 'that's what you're supposed to do'. It's the exact same mentality that I see in tourists pissing/vomiting/etc on people's HOMES in the quarter. I've hollered at a few from my balcony to stop pissing on my house, and more than once I've heard in response "What? People LIVE here?"
So, therefore, it's cool to say the rudest thing that comes to mind to the pretty stripper you meet when you're wasted on Bourbon since none of it's real anyhow and you probably won't be coming back anytime soon.......

thanks everyone for the support. i cleaned out my locker at the titty bar on friday. i dont plan on ever going back to that particulr club... in a while i might audition somewhere else when i feel ready. i feel so much better. last night i made a little over 300$ pedicabbing, which at the titty bar would have left me angry but for pedicabbing i am quite content. and i had fun.

kermit- dude you are so right about the people who piss on peoples houses here. i used to have sympathy for those who got arrested, until a girl at work pointed out the same thing you mentioned. when i see people pissing in the quarter now i yell out 'dude that house is 3x your age and if the person who lives there see you, they will knock out your fucking teeth' or something to that effect. also i too think we should be able to wave house fees when atms fail us. but these fucking corporate clubs have made it impossible for dancers to have any power or be treated like people instead of expendable ways for deja vu or ricks corp to bring in more money for the shareholders.
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!

I could go on and on for days/months about the fuckery of the current house fee system.
OK, we're subcontractors paying to work? Cool, but make damn sure that you supply the tools that we require to do our job. An intelligent and coherant support staff, functional physical club, lack of crime and intimidation, and reasonable dancer limit. And don't subject us to the rules and requirements that apply to employees! And expect us to smile at the end of the night like you're doing us a favor by accepting our house fees?
Then again, I'm constantly amazed at the amount of dancers that don't know any better and really believe it's perfectly reasonable. (to be fair, it's the younger girls who started dancing after this system was the norm across the country)
But then again, at this moment, no logical way to 'fight the power'. Also, a good manager makes a WORLD of difference.

I got so frustrated one summer over the serial pissers (I was weary of coming out on a summer afternoon and smelling urine) that on one of my nights off, my roomie and I exacted a bit of revenge. We turned out the lights, went out on the balcony with a couple of beers and a bucket of full water balloons. We laid on our bellies, peeped over the side, and pretended to be bomber pilots dropping water balloons on every guy that whipped it out. We didn't have cable or boyfriends so........
Not that I would do that now, with the way bullets are flying lately.

As for pedicabbing, I'm glad it's going well but PLEASE be careful! I know you're from here, but I heard from a cop a few nights ago that the thugs are now targeting food delivery people. That combined with the recent taxi robberies make me worry that pedicabs might become appealing as well. And you know as well as I do, that being a chick makes you an even prettier target. I've been here for years, but am thinking that this might be the year I buy a handgun.
Hey, maybe you could print out a coupla business cards and leave them in the dressing rooms of the stripclubs in the quarter where you know people? You know the service industry tips the hell out of each other....

I went through the same thing beginning this year. I was already contemplating it but I had to give it a chance. I did and the second night of just barely breaking 100 and where I work that's negative basically due to the massive house fees. I said this isn't worth it anymore. Also guys aren't as pleasant as they used to be. I used to be able to have fun at work, now its like really I did not know so many assholes can be in the same place at the same time. I am not going to lie, it felt sucky at first because I did enjoy the good times when money was good. Now it is just different. I may have been dancing for only five years but I do not like how it feels now. I came home and tossed my shoes, license, and sheriffs card in the trash and said the hell with it. Onto the next big adventure in my life. Which will be returning to school. I am now very happy and feel more relaxed and stress free. I feel relieved seeing this post, its nice to know that you aren't the only one out there who felt this way. Good luck to all you gorgeous women.

I'm glad that you made the right decision for you, and you have something else to do that you enjoy and makes you money. Sometimes a bullshit threshold is reached and you need to break away from what's making you miserable. I recently hung up the heels too.

Take care and keep on being your fabulous self!

    P.S. Hows the new kitty?

i admit i am worried about the safety aspect of pedicbbing. so many of the pedicabbers are out of towners and dont seem to realise that nola is a dangerous place to be, esp on a slower moving tricycle at night. probably gonna purchase a taster this week. i wasnt aware that food delivery drivers were recently bein targeted...ugh thats not what i want to hear. :-/

Have you considered carrying some deposit slips and some envelopes to deposit tips during the night? Every time you have more than 20 Dollars in tip money; you can deposit it into an ATM.

Its awesome that you have another option for a job that will still earn you a decent amount of money! I would say - take a break, and do that for a while.

However - how seasonal is the pedicab work? I know that where I live, all the pedicabs are strictly summer only, so you may have to find something else to do in the off-season...

Whatever you decide to do, good luck! Get a plan in place, and if you are sick of the industry, then get out!

More power to ya. I hung up the heels for over a year, got a corporate job, and now am dancing on the side whenever I want some extra cash to throw in the bank.

Sometimes you just have to admit to yourself that it is time.

By any chance, did you write a little story about pedicabbing for the Christmas issue of the "Quarter Rat"? I just read it the other day, and thought of you. I kind of thought it probably wasn't you, since it seems like the woman writing it has been at it for a while and you seem to have just started, but I thought I'd ask.

If it wasn't you and you feel like reading it, I know they still have that issue at La Peniche (corner of Touro and Dauphine).

    $300 A NIGHT PEDICABBING?!?

    No house fees
    No pimp-mentality management
    No dillusional customers

This seems to be a great opportunity Athena. In pedicabbing, if you are an entertainer in every sense of the word, you can possibly DOUBLE that. I would be so happy to find a "normal job" that offers this kind of money. Congratulations and don't look back. A good hustler does not need dancing, we merely need to use our MINDS to make that $500/night dancing money elsewhere.

Are there any pedicabbing companies in VEGAS lol?!? If so SIGN ME UP NOW!!!!!! I always wanted to do this when I lived in Key West but never got the chance before I moved. It always looked like so much fun to cruise up and down DUVAL with tourists in tow for a living.

its not an average of 300. money is up and down like dancing but there is potential and i think ill be able to make more as i get the hang of certain things more. when i first started stripping, i remember 20 seemed like a lot for a dance but obviously that changed. when i first started pedicabbing 20 seemed kind of high for a fare that would be 7$ in a regular cab, but this is changing.

anyway, i am pedicabbing thru this mardi gras. i have 3 fourteen hr shifts coming up this weekend, then another one on monday. wish me luck!

^ Yes here ass is looking good....lol I had the pleasure of her pedicabbing me to lunch on sunday. I was freezing my ass off and I admire the hell out of her after actually riding in that thing it cannot be easy to carry around a few people who maybe weigh 400 ponds total and going up hills no way my skinny weak ass could do it. My hat off to athena and good luck working those hours I could never do it!
