Default Living in the Pacific Northwest

I've always loved gloomy weather, art, culture, being by water and farmers markets that offer fresh organic produce straight from the orchards. I'm considering moving to Seattle or Portland. For those who live in the Pacific NW, what places would you recommend for a 25 year old female who currently resides in Las Vegas? I'm into the cultural urban areas as I did move to Vegas from San Francisco so I love the feeling of having a lot of activities to do around me. Vegas doesn't offer that for me. Also, how are the strip clubs in the areas?

Here's a club breakdown. I posted it elsewhere but there's been some change so here's the updated version:

Downtown Clubs: (the ones I'm familiar with)
All clubs have $130 flat house fee for nights. As for days, Showgirls is $80, LDs is $70 and I think DGs is $70 as well. There's no mandatory tipping, but DJ tipping is expected and you should take care of those who take care of you, like if the VIP host sells you a room or a certain waitress sells you a lot of drinks. Getting ladies drinks helps reduce your house fee ($5 off for every small drink, $10 off your house for every large drink). All clubs are nude onstage, dances done in bikini. No alcohol. You must get a dance license, it takes about 2 hours to do. It's $227 for a full year, but drops to $128 in July. You can use this license at any downtown area club.

DreamGirls:The club is huge, beautiful and has amazing VIP sky boxes. If you'd like an in-depth view of what it's like to dance here, PM me and I'll forward your message to a girl I know who works here currently. The club is currently suffering due to poor previous management, so the amazing GM from Showgirls was recently been moved here. If anything this is a change for the better, I really can't say enough good about the guy. I know their clientele has been pretty sparse and undesirable but if anyone can fix it, this guy can. Plus baseball season is coming up, and this is the club to bank at during season. Earnings are very up and down.

Showgirls: Across from the Pike Place Market, so clientele is mainly comprised of tourists. It's the oldest downtown club, and is really consistent. Medium hustle, but the girls are friendly. All kinds of girls from size 0 to 12, curvy to thin, Asian, black, mixed, white and everything in between. Dances are medium to high contact, with decent grinding, but the customer can't touch your boobs or crotch. Rules are definitely up to you. VIP rooms are easy to sell, and the staff is very helpful. The night manager from DreamGirls works here now, and I personally don't like him much. The swing shift manager is the optimum guy to work for here. As far as averages, the top earner here (who I adore!) never leaves with less than $400 on her worst days, she almost always breaks $1k on Friday and Saturday nights. I would say average earnings here are $400-$500 for an average to moderate hustler.

Little Darlings: Definitely more "Suicide Girl" type girls here, and they tend to be younger... I'd say most between 18 and 25. This is the club my husband manages. He has a zero tolerance policy for extras and believes in "less grinding, more dancing". Management is a tight ship on nights but is very dancer friendly; they definitely want to know if you've had/are having a problem. Mostly white girls here but definitely a handful of Latinas and black girls. This club tends to be the most white collar of the bunch, because they are close to the major hotels and get a lot of convention business. They have the highest per customer spending average of all the downtown clubs. Hustle is again medium- he has girls bringing home $600-$800 pretty regularly who hustle well and know what they're doing, but there's also some girls who can never make house. In regards to ladies' drinks, my husband went out and got a whole bunch of fun, fruity flavor syrups to make Italian sodas with instead of the girls having to drink the same stuff. They also look different, so the customers don't balk as much about buying them. None of the other clubs have adopted this yet.

    GET OUT OF HERE!!:
Dancing Bare: 3-4 girls at a time, who are 4s and below. It's a brothel.
Centerfolds: The manager is a total asshole. Seriously, he's a notorious douchebag.
Sands: You can make money here if you are sneaky as fuck but unfortunately extras are the norm.
Toy's Topless: In Gorst. Possibly the shittiest club I have ever seen. It's so bad I refer to it as The Shitty Titty.

Now that's out of the way, I'll tell you about actually living in Seattle. I lived in LV for two years myself, so maybe tell me what you don't like about LV?

    Weather wise:

It does not rain all the fucking time. The summers here are beautiful and green, usually 70-85 degrees and sunny. Low humidity but definitely more than in LV. Apartments here do not come with air conditioning, you don't really need it. I live downtown near the water so I catch a good breeze in my place. The fall is gorgeous and very colourful, that's one thing I really like. Fall weather usually requires a sweater or a hoodie. This winter has been very mild, we had one week of snow and then it got warm pretty quickly... it's 46 out right now. Winter can be very grey, damp and cold. This is where the reputation for rain comes in... winter is like 3 months of continuous grey drizzle. It makes me unproductive and sleep a lot.

    Cost of Living:

You'll pay quite a bit in rent here. For an apartment in the city $1000-$1600 for a 1 bedroom is very average. I pay $1400 a month for about 800 sq feet, I really pay most of it for location. You can get a studio in a prime location for about $700-$900. Utilities though, are dirt cheap. My electric bill is seriously $26 a month. Seattle is run on it's own steam system, which makes energy really cheap. I have steam heating in my apartment as well. Gas usually runs about $100 a month, this is used to fuel the steam heating as well as my stove. For cable and internet, I pay $120 a month. Due to our location, we only have to put gas in the car like twice a month but gas is around $3.55 a gallon. The bus system here is really awesome! A monthly pass is only like $20. I walk a LOT and it's really liberating. Groceries are more expensive in the city proper than the suburbs but that's to be expected. I don't find groceries here to be any more expensive than anywhere else. If you want a popular neighbourhoods breakdown, let me know.

    Farmer's Markets:

Don't shop at Pike Place. Really and truly. It's great to visit but the prices are shit. Every neighbourhood has it's own farmer's market once or twice a week, so there's lots to choose from. Market season starts late April and is in full swing by June. These markets are considerably cheaper than fucking Pike Place. There are a lot of orchards in Yakima where you can go pick your own fruit and stuff. I didn't do that last year but I plan to this year.

    Entertainment:

If you like clubbing, this place will suck for you. The nightclubs here, especially compared to LV, are small shitty and a total joke. Waste of makeup to even go. If you like kitschy bars, dives etc, you'll be in heaven. There truly is a bar for everyone. There's a lot of fantastic restaurants here, but Seattle shuts down early- most restaurants are closed by 11pm. There's one 24hr fine dining place called 13 Coins that is really great though, and a few diners that are 24 hrs. I hate to admit it but there's a lot of fucking hipsters here. They piss me off. Drugs of choice up here are oxycontin and cocaine, both are absolutely abundant and will be in your face a LOT. There's a lot of film festivals in the summer, and a lot of great live music... any band you've ever wanted to see is here like every other week. It's crazy. The International District is great too, HUUUUUUUUUUGE cheap Asian markets, Japanese cosmetic stores, you name it. Outdoor activities are really popular here too.. there's tons of parks, places to kayak etc etc.

You should probably check out and read up on these neighbourhoods: Capitol Hill, Fremont, Wallingford, Greenlake, Ballard.

Thank you so much for all this helpful info, Mediocrity. What I don't like about Vegas is the lack of culture and activities that are available for the community. We do have events such as "Women's fairs" and tiny carnivals but they're either too commercialized or they're activities for younger children. The entertainment here revolves around the Strip, and as a local, I tend to avoid the Strip, unless I go out or if I have family in town, which is not often.

I feel that living by the water would give me a better peace of mind and just make me feel better, mentally and emotionally. I have been living in Vegas for over ten years and I am so tired of it. Also, how is the water in Seattle? I HATE the hard water that comes out of the faucets here in Nevada. I find that softer water works better with my hair and skin, so the hopes that Seattle has softer water would be a huge plus.

I want to move to an area by the water that offers a lot of fresh organic produce. I also don't want to drive no more than 20 minutes to work. You mentioned that Showgirls is a tourist club. Living in Vegas, I would prefer these types of clubs, as I am most familiar with that type of hustle. What other clubs are like this?

Currently, I'm paying $850/month for a 2 br/2 bath condo. I understand that living near the coast and in the city would be more expensive but I would be content living in a 1 br/1 bath studio as long as I have a variety of shops, food and activities (fishing, festivals, local band performances, etc.) around me.

The neighbourhoods I listed would be ideal for you then, particularly Fremont, Ballard or Capitol Hill. Because you want to be immediately by the water, I think Fremont would be a good first choice followed by Ballard. These are all 4-5 miles away from the center of downtown.

    Some reading:

    Ballard info:
    Fremont info:
    Capitol Hill info:

As far as I can tell the water is softer here. I have really intense hair anyway (very thick and bushy) and sensitive skin and haven't had any issues.

Showgirls is the only mostly tourist driven club because it is across the street from the Pike Place Market. DreamGirls is tourist driven May-Aug because it is right across the street from the baseball and football stadium. LDs is mostly convention business. Of the three, I would say Showgirls is your best bet if you want a high turnover tourist clientele.

I've worked at almost all the Deja Vu clubs. I can definitely say if you're wanting a more tourist club, Showgirls is your answer. I made good money there. I'm actually considering going back to that club, but I am upset the GM is at Dreamgirls now, he was an amazing manager. The only reason I'm not still there is I live in North Seattle and not a big fan of driving downtown every day.
Worked at Little Darlings for a year, it wasn't a bad club, to me it seemed like it slowed down quite a bit but a lot of the customers that come in were nice and did seem to spend more. Majority of the girls there were really great as well.
I normally rather goto Portland honestly, I make better money down there.

Mediocrity what are your views on Dreamgirls at Ricks?

I think DreamGirls at Rick's has a lot of potential, but not with whom is currently managing. They couldn't get any girls in initially for day shift, which sucked because there was actually a fair amount of guys.. but they have stopped coming due to lack of entertainment. A lot of girls are trying to transfer out of that club right now because the money is so erratic. So that's the bad.

The good is I think once they have someone at the helm who isn't an idiot, in a couple of months it will be fine. It's a gorgeous club, and Rick's already has a cult following. I think a lot of old Rick's customers will come check it out, if only for curiosity factor. I do think it is going to take awhile to get established though.. a lot longer than initially anticipated.

I just started watching Portlandia... funny stuff.
I loved the cameo by Eddie Vedder a few epsidoes ago. That ongoing women's book store skit is hilarious.

I really love your views on the clubs. They're all very true about the clubs as well.
I completely agree that Rick's has a lot of potential, but it really isn't too great right now. I have been working there for month or so now. Haven't been able to make it in the past 2 weeks due to being sick and having no voice. But it has been rough and I know many of the girls have been going back to other clubs and I was considering going back to one of the other clubs as well. I was considering going in for a few day shifts soon to see how it is then though.
I do hope it gets established as I hoped it would. I think it has great potential. It is beautiful inside, and I personally love the location as I hate going downtown every night.

I grew up in Oregon and I have close relatives in Portland. I should watch Portlandia just for shits n giggles.

Portland will be a completely different SC than Seattle, and has the must clubs and the widest variety of them.

I love being in Seattle. The weather can get kind of blah at times, but if you like being outdoors you just head to the snow in the winter. I have lived all over the country except for midwest and I think the Pacific NW is the place for me with SF being a close second. If you want more than just the SC and clubbing, then Seattle is a great place to be.

    Thats my 2 cents

Girl, I totally feel you! I have also lived in Vegas about 10 years and I am not a fan of this city at all. Don't get me wrong, I do love the sunshine, but I grew up around water, trees, flower and lots of grass and I miss that A LOT! I just feel better when I am around trees and water. I don't know why, but mentally and emotionally I feel refreshed, relaxed, and HAPPY. I don't feel happy in this city. The only reason why I still live here, is because my husband and I own an auto detail company. But, it hasn't been doing all that great the last couple of years and I just don't see any real reason to keep living here. My husband has lived in Seattle before and he has told me that I would probably love it there. I have seen pictures and think it is gorgeous. I have been trying to convince him to leave here, and he just keeps asking where do I want to live. I think Washington state is looking more and more like my kind of place. We are very outdoorsy kind of people, especially my son and I, and summer out here is horrid for us. We love going to the lake, but that's about all you can do here in summer. So yeah, I can totally see why you would want to move. Plus, Vegas isn't for everyone. I don't want to raise my son here, period. Well, let us know if you move. I'd love to here about it!

I, too, feel a sense of clarity around greenery and water. I'm a water sign, so that could be a factor, as I feel that I absorb a lot of the oceans' energies. Other than working at my club, the only reason I'm still living here is because my family is out here. I know that shouldn't hold me back from my happiness and doing what I want, but as the eldest of four, I was brought up (programmed) to be there for my family and support them when they need me.

I will be planning a trip to Seattle with my boyfriend, preferably around a time in the summer when there will be some events and festivals going on. We will scope out a few neighborhoods as well- Capitol Hill, Fremont and Queen Anne, and also check out a couple strip clubs.

Queen Anne is super nice but beware- it's one of the most expensive neighbourhoods in Seattle! There are some deals to be found though, if you scour Craigslist.

If you want to, let me know when you get up here, and I'll make sure y'all don't have to pay cover at the clubs.

I personally much prefer Seattle to Portland. IMO, the "vibe" of Seattle is much closer to that of S.F. than Portland is, so if you liked S.F. you'd probably like Seattle as well. There are tons of things to do in and around Seattle, both culturally and outdoorsy. I've never lived there, but have been there several times and am considering moving there in a couple of years.

My club isn't in Seattle, its in Renton which is fairly close to Seattle. I like working a little bit away from my home.

Sin Rock: Very clean club, though day shift can be a bit dirtier. Gorgeous club, a bit hard to find. Many customers come straight from the airport. It is a very slow club, having regulars will save your ass plenty of nights. Management is friendly and always willing to work with you, though they are very picky on what music is played so you don't always get to chose. I don't work Friday or Saturday nights but earnings can be very good, though not always consistent. During the mid week it seems that a couple girls will make fairly good money, half of the girls do alright, and the other half can't afford house (but like I said management works with you, does not back rent). Rent is $80-85 and mandatory tip out ($5 ea to waitress, bouncer, and bartender, $10 to DJ), so its more like $105 a night.

Mediocrity, what do you know about Pandora's? I've heard mixed things, I get the impression that it is fairly dirty but no where near Dancing Bare, and clean girls can still make money.

I wouldn't suggest anyone work at Pandora's unless I really, really hated them.

I'm a vegas girl too looking to move to Seattle! This was good info to read. Been in Vegas 10 years now & am over it. I'm an outdoor person and need more green scenery. LOL. Would like to move by next spring.

This is interesting to me because over the past five or so years dancing in Portland, I've only heard complaints about the Seattle stripping scene. Girls say its not worth it and guys say it's no fun if you can't drink. Then again we don't make thatuch money here in pdx. Hmmmm... Which is better?

I hate to say it but a LOT has changed in the last six months. And I don't know about it Portland, but in Seattle we basically got NO summer this year. Maybe 3 weeks. Thank god my hubs got transferred out of state this week. The last 6 months have been really shitty for me.
