Default How long did it take to finally get a stable income?

I've been camming on and off for over a year, and only recently have I started a stable $80 a week. =/

I've got personality I think... Looks sorta, but maybe I'm just not doing something right? I know that I need to follow a schedule, fix my self up before going on, have a decent cam (I've got the pro 9000), and talk to people out loud.

One thing I'm not good at is figuring out what to do when there's people in the room, but no one is talking... I hate that so much... I tell people to talk, but they I guess just stare at me a minute and then move on. -_-
(this could be a whole thread in itself)

But back on subject, I was wondering how long and how much work did it take to finally start making a real income?

I can't really comment on the income bit as I've only been doing it a couple of weeks and am nowhere near being stable. I definitely need to set up a schedule too, but I always fix myself up nice before going on. I don't have a great cam though, just the built in one, and I hardly ever talk out loud because the times most people are on, my flatmate is also home in the next room, so I can't be too loud.
One thing I've figured out though, in regards to what to do to avoid awkward silences, is to do something else on the side too. Read blogs or articles, be on facebook, etc., read something that makes you smile or laugh! if they ask what's so funny you can tell them, and maybe generate a conversation from that.
Also, make them feel like you're interested. Don't tell people to talk - say things like "so what have you guys been up to today?", basically act like you're interested in them. Get simple questions that will actually keep them talking! If you don't mind getting more personal in the group chat, ask them what they're into, what they'd like to see you do in private, etc. If they still don't respond, then go and look at something else for a little bit (while keeping the chat window open to the side if you can). I also like to do a little swaying to the music I'm listening to, lip-synching along to it.. makes you look a lot less bored.
Anyway, hope that helps a bit, sorry I couldn't help with your main question, though I'll be interested in hearing responses to that from other members!

I was biking on a static bike the other day... yes in free chat...
WildFire above has some nice advice for u Akemi...
If the site allows u to write topics, come up with something funny, even if some might not pay attention to it. but when 1 does , u;ll have something fun to talk about.
Do whatever u need to do to keep a smile on your face, I think thats key.
Some models smile constantly , a very fake smile..thats not what I mean...
I listen to music that makes me feel good.. thats #1 need for me, personally, music.

On the stable income part.. all of the above + work at least 4-5 hours a day +Decent prices + be nice to everybody + dont take it personal.
If someone wants to see your ass for free if because they like you, take it as a compliment not as an insult..
No one is talking? thats easy... tease the hell outta them and then stop, when one talks tell them " you liked that didnt you?"..

When I was camming before full-time only on cams.com it took me about 1 to 3 months for regular income of working about 8 to 10 hours a day. its really a matter of stick to a schedule.

I was just wondering what your personal definition of 'stable' income is in order to better answer your question. Do you mean something that you can fully support yourself on, or just any amount of money coming in per week?

It takes me about 8 hours to get an almost regular salary (hopefully soon it will take less time!) on sm... What I mean by this is money I can actually survive on. I've been working hard, and I'm still learning. I haven't been on for a whole week yet though, it's just a few days, so I'm probably just the "new girl" no one knows yet. Also, I heard it's slow these first few months.

i've only been camming for 3 days and i'm already making 2.5x a stable income. so here are some tips that i've been using.

    - keep your rates high. low rates show you don't value yourself so guys won't value you either. and if your rates are low all those short pvts you're doing will add up to essentially nothing, meaning your relying on hooking a guy who's got the bucks to go the distance

    - don't do anything for free. guys want you to say 'i love dick'? tough, he's gotta pay for your time and attention. and definitely don't ever flash tits/ass/feet for nothing!

    - READ CAMMING CONNECTION. there's so much useful info here

    - if you're not doing well on the site you're on, try another. try all of them.

    - if your tech allows, stream in HD with voice. if it doesn't, fix it so it does. i share my internet with 20 other flats and occasionally i don't have the bandwidth to stream in HD properly. it's obvious when this is happening coz all of a sudden nobody talks to me and all the guys just pop in and out of my room. when my tech works, i get tons of privates. when my tech doesn't, i get nothing. if you're already streaming HD, go on the site and check your stream to make sure it's not choppy. that could be the problem.

    - and most importantly, WORK YOUR ASS OFF. set a goal, stick to it and work until you've got it. last night i had tech issues that lasted about 3 hours, in the end i had to stay online an extra 2 hours to make up for it.

good luck, i know you can do it!

What Cammi said! Make sure you have your work station set up. Anything you might need for a private or get asked for, know where it is. If they ask me to even stand up, I tell them to tip $5. If they are not satisfied with the heels I have, I tell them to tip me $5 and I will go get more options. Don't do anything for free. A lot of these guys are bullshitters, and we don't need to be wasting our time just so he can say, "HAHAHA I made her do it."

It really depends, nobody is even remotely close to the same.

For me on MFC it took about two months to get my camscore high enough so I was making megabucks (which fits in with the theories of camscore being based on income in the last 60 days).

It took me a couple months. But, yeah, "stable" is vague.

Also, how many hours a week are you working to only make $80? I mean, it's hard to imagine only making that much per week if you're putting in a honest effort and a decent amount of hours.

"Stable" for me - at this point in my life - is making a comfortable $1,000/month (AFTER any % of regular taxed deductions and SM fees). I'll only be paying about $600/month total on bills. I haven't started yet, but I'll be getting an apt. soon with a friend who will be doing it as well. We're both researching a lot and interested in this thread!

stable income in camming all depends on ur will to keep money coming in. if you put in an honest effort, you won't have a prob making a stable income starting out. do ur research on this forum and decide which sites to sign up for. i do suggest signing up for a cpl of live cam sites and a cpl of content selling sites. when u don't feel like doing live cam, u can always make content. keep income coming in from all angles. those are my suggestions.

Also, the weeks I don't reach my goal or make much are when I've logged off after an hour because it was slow, I didn't feel like getting on etc. But when I actually stick to my schedule, pushing through the slow times with a good attitude, I make my goal and then some. Sometimes, I'll get up and walk away for quick second to get something out the fridge etc, just to kill time and keep from exhausting myself.

Example: Through Thursday last week, I'd only made 183 because I didn't feel like getting on. Thursday night, I decided to stick to my schedule and push through it, getting up to stretch if I needed to. By the end of my shift, I went up to around 560. By the end of the next day, I was up to 737. Big difference. (Couldn't work Sat because time of month started lol). If I'd had that drive in the beginning of the week, my check would've been even more.

My check would've been 183 had I not gotten down to business! Good luck

By stable I mean something that 1 person could support themselves on. Also, once you get to that point, how will you know the income will keep coming in? Is building up a good base of regulars the real key to having an income?

My income has never been stable because there are so many factors that come into play. I always make enough to get by but there have been a few months where I just barely did. A good base of regs does help but even they can dissapear at times. I've had some that would take me private a couple times a week for a few months then dissapear because they didnt have the money anymore or they just moved on to a new favorite.

I guess it's like any commision job..you cant guarantee how much you'll make every month. It does help to be on a site that you can sell content on because it can add to your income from camming

one other tip i forgot to mention.

when you're on cam, don't get distracted by other stuff. focus on your chat room. you don't have regulars to rely on to earn your cash, you need to hustle

You don't know it will keep coming in. It's like any self employed business - you can only determine roughly what you will make by how many hours and how much effort you put in. Mommie long legs makes a great point - get on and stay on even when times are rough. And yes, building regulars is the key. Regulars are like your bread and butter between the pennies thrown in here and there and the odd whale (megabucks that seem to come from nowhere), find them, build them, keep them! Something I am keeping in mind right now is the quote from a lovely SW lady whose name escapes me just now - "It's like Pokemon... sexy money pokemon... gotta catch em ALL!"

I say the key is working alot of hours. Because for the guys that are passing by your chat room and NOT buying, they are DECIDING if they will possibly buy later. So dont be discouraged. I have had people leave only to come back later many times (waiting til their payday for instance.) If you work mega hours you can get that initial exposure to the (potential) customer. If you don't know what to say in your chat room, then say,"Tell me about yourself." That should get them going with a conversation. Smile and show cleavage. Be very determined.

    Yes!

but - with a disclaimer - never depend on just one or two high roller regulars. Every customer has an expiration date where they leave for awhile and may or may not return so you need to always be gaining new regulars.

How many hours do you work for the stable $80 you are getting now? I am just asking to see where your starting point is so I don't give you advice that is irrelevant to your situation.

It took me about 2-3 months, but I wasn't camming initially. I figure that once I get my camming and clip situation sorted out I'll probably be earning between $3-5K/mon. I still have "vanilla" work I do, but it's stuff that's very flexible.

What site are you on hun? You should definitely be making more than 80 a week if you are putting the time and energy of a real job into it (working more than 4 hours a day)
    Try switching sites?

Maybe there's some kind of issue with your stream? If you are streaming in HD with good sound and you have a consistent schedule with lots of hours (at least 30/week) I can't imagine why you wouldn't make more than 80.

ETA: I recommend SM for good traffic
