The Sony D100 camera's resolution is theoretically better than the L9000. However, since the Sony is an analog camera, the actual digital picture / video quality generated will have much to do with the video capture card you use the D100 with.

Thanks Melonie. Do you have a suggestion as to the best card to use? Have you ever used this cam?

If your using a laptop you can't really change your video card. if your using a desktop you can upgrade your video card to a better one and depending on your video card you will have the video input in the back of the desktop tower to plug in any video camera. if your using a laptop then you have to get a usb video capture device

then the only way to connect the sony evi to your laptop is to use a video capture that connects with usb, like dazzle or super tech. there are plenty of them around, but since your set on using the sony-evi that might take more computer bandwidth power then you have so you might need to also add on a usb hub that connects with a power adapter.

I find getting a regular video camera wiht a remote control more effect and less drain on the power supply in a laptop. I have been considering getting myself a desktop and have a built in video card that has a video out in it so i can connect any video camera directly to the desktop computer. but I use to have the dlink video capture they no longer make them its almost impossible to find them on ebay or amazon. so the other option is the dazzle product video creator or another video capture device.

I have had great quality using regular video camera with a remote control and regular tripod and the video capture device, the sony evi takes more power then a handycam or a point and shoot video camera. this is why i am stressing so much on finding a video camera with a remote control even if I can control remotely the pan and tilt as long as I can control the zoom with the pan and tilt and photos I am happy.

Thanks ladies! If I can get the Sony for under £100 I will grab it and figure out the tech stuff when it comes to it. For now I will carry on with my Logitech (which by the way Cassie i personally find better than the lifecam which i also have ) Will get a good quality camcorder for shooting content when i can afford it.

The startech capture card works best for a PC. I also have an elgato capture card for my mac. Check out my youtube channel, link is in my signature, I have a few videos on this camera.

I have one of the newer LifeCams ( Katie ) its the Studio version the Logitec C910 does 1080p skpe so its better in that area but in camming i would never use it.
I think the logitec does have a Carl Zeiss lens to but with the Microsoft LifeCam Studio version it has a hole to screw in a quick disconnect on a tri pod for pov and can fit on a PTZ remote Mount. A durable aluminum body with lens cap also a 6 ft usb cord vs. the Logitec C910 only has a 5ft usb cable i need that extra foot of cable lol Gotta way the pros and cons of both cams i think their both great but the life cam studio just fits my couples shows better we move around a lot

just for info - the ebenk and trackerpod/powerpod are virtually impossible to get in the UK. They can be imported but usually the price doubles with shipping and then we also have to pay a customs tax when they come into the country. All of this makes that option really expensive in the UK. (and my trackerpod broke grrrrr)

Yeah I was drooling over the trackerpods too. Even in the US they seem pretty hard to come by. I asked about them in PC World the other day and they didn't have a clue hahaha!

The startech capture card works best for a PC

Again, where analog HD video cameras versus laptops are concerned, if you attempt to use an external video capture device and a USB 2.0 port to bring uncompressed camera video into the laptop, performance is going to suffer no matter how good the resolution of the analog camera is. This is simply a function of the maximum data stream capacity of USB 2.0. Video capture cards for desktop computers get around this limitation by directly connecting to the motherboard's PCI slots. There are also a handful of video capture cards for laptops that get around this problem via directly connecting to the laptop computer's PCMCIA slots. However, not every laptop HAS PCMCIA slots available these days.

Again I'm not saying that a laptop using an external USB 2.0 video capture device won't work at all. It will do an 'adequate' job. However, if you're talking about a top shelf camera like the Sony D100, an external USB 2.0 video capture device is going to compromise the ultimate potential of the D100 camera.

Seems the Logitechs get excellent reviews, but I can't find any pan/tilt/zoom info. Are the Sony's the only high quality cams will remote control pan/tilt/zoom?
    Thanks!

Sony is not the only pan and tilt video camera out there. there are other manufactors that make their own pan and tilt video camera. or just a pan and tilt tripod head.

I said video cameras polaroid, cisco, and there are other models of the sony-evi, lorex, and some are able to set up IP wireless video cameras that pan and tilt, each manufactor out there that makes video cameras, secruity cameras, webcams each have thier own best camera. and many of them can be used as camera to broadcast for streaming video or private webcam shows.

for example: I remember being on rude.com broadcasting my cams and I wanted night vision and I used a lorex secruity camera and my sony camcorder because they had night vision.

there are many combinations out there for camera set ups its a matter of finding the right one that works for you.
