Default What do you consider binging?

So like I mentioned in another post, I've put on 12 lbs. in the past 3 months, which isn't normal. I know how - I basically started eating whatever I wanted, and as much as I wanted after I stopped dating this one guy and lived by myself. I'm starting to wonder if I have a binge eating problem? I'll eat whole bags of tostitos with whole cans of dip..like the big bags, in one sitting. I will eat a medium pizza in a sitting. The other night, I ate two large fries and a cheeseburger, and then a few hours later, I ordered a pizza. My plan is to lose this weight, but I'm not sure if it's going to be harder than I thought. I'm so used to coming home and eating all night., just about. Ugh. Would what I do be considered binging? It's worse, lately, because it's around my period. How do I stop? I'm starting to look a little chunky :/

I think you should look at why you are eating instead of what you are eating. Are you eating because you are sad about your relationship ending? Are you eating because you are lonely and eating makes you feel better? Are you eating because you are bored? Eating because you are bored is slighlty easier to address than emotional eating. If you feel that you are eating emotionally things like keeping healthy foods in the house and setting an eating cut off time at night will only take you so far. If you can perhaps, talk to someone or look into books regarding emotional eating. Good luck!

I consider binging anything over 1200 calories a day, or a day that is comprised mostly of sugar and/or fat. You need to buy healthy substitute food.. like veggies and dip instead of the chips. You also need to get active.

^^I don't think most people would call anything under 2000 calories a binge. The number most people would think of is probably considerably higher than this.

I feel binging is when you eat a lot and you get to that point where you are not even hungry anymore but you keep eating.

If you are binging every night maybe you could try and change up your routine a bit. Like instead of going home to eat, pack your gym bag and go to the gym on the way home instead. I always find exercise helps avoid me pigging out as well.
Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

    1200 calories?!?! O_o

I eat about 1800 a day but after working a lot I'll eat up to 6k calories one day a week. I think binging 2-4 times a month w cheat days is great for the metabolism and mind...keeps me on track the rest of the time.

I used to binge on bad stuff (gluten, dairy) but now I'll binge on healthy proteiny stuff. Lostmy taste for garbage...

Ya I would be severely underweight if I ate 1200 calories a day. The recommended daily intake for the average person is 2000. I consider binging to be eating until Im so full I can't eat another bite. Try an limit snack portions to the size of your palm if you must eat chips or something bad. I think if you make healthier choices you won't be as tempted to binge because you will be giving your body the fuel it needs. Try reading labels and writing down sugar and calorie content to stop yourself from over eating. For example I never eat anything that has over 6% sugar.

Binging = eating excessive amounts of calories that causes you to gain weight rapidly. This is completely different for each girl. Some girls strive for under 1200 calories, while other girls need a full 2000 because they work out often. Depends.

I would define binging as pointless eating.

Eat when you're hungry, don't if you're not. Everybody's different, and I've found there are days (usually depending on how hard i worked out or at what point in my cycle I'm at), where I'm almost constantly eating, and days where I don't hit 1000 calories. And don't eat crappy food. You're better off eating a higher calorie number of something nutritious than chips or something that has no real value.

I started binge eating like six weeks ago (as in larger food servings, junk food almost everyday instead of the usual twice a week, and substituting healthy food with its less nutritious "equivalents", like my usual lite cheese pizza for meat lovers), and I decided that TODAY was the day I will stop that behavior. I had gained about seven pounds already: bigger thighs and "double" boob for the most part. If I didn't gain more is mostly because I had kept myself active; I really ate like a pig. Why I did this? it's a long story.

So, I cooked some grilled pork (instead of a cheeseburger) and mashed potatoes with the crust (instead of french fries) seasoned with cayenne pepper (instead of salt). I felt soooooooooooooooooo much better after eating the healthier food.

    good for you sweetie
i dealt with anorexia and bulima in middle school. was good through highschool then about a year ago i gained about 15 lbs when i moved in with my bf and we stated eating out a lot. BUT i still fir into my size 5 jeans i bought 2 years ago. i know im beautiful and that i'm not fat and 12 lbs may make u feel insecure at first, but seriously, do you look any different or feel worse? shit if most of it was in your butt, say 8/12 of those pounds, then that's hot
if u do feel bad about yourself, just keep up the healthy cooking. eat slow and when you do eat junk REALLLY enjoy it. i love fries but more than once a week is way overkill personally and i literally couldnt stand them more than that. also check to see if you are lacking any minerals or nutrients, when i had surgery and lost a lot of blood i CRAVED everything with iorn and salt in it. like disgusting amounts. listen to your body, you may be missing something.
find out what makes you feel confident and sexy and fuck everything else

Emotions get the best of us..don't tie it to food because it leads to more depression..you are worth more.

A quote I found from a woman on another forum.. Not sure the exact wording.

"Being overweight and unhealthy is HARD.
Losing weight and getting healthy is HARD.
    Pick your HARD"

that being said, i consider binging (in my diet) a meal where I just don't give a fuck and go all out. I'll eat a burger or buffalo wings and follow it with dessert. I'm am a very healthy eater on a day to day basis and workout as well, so I feel I can afford a "binge meal" once a week/ every two weeks. I find it will happen anyway so I might as well expect it and accept it. I can't live off Greek yogurt and tilapia forever!! As other have mentioned it does actually keep. Me ON TRACK. for one I don't feel so deprive, and two I usually feel so guilty from it that I'm extra good all week!
