    Default Broke a rib poledancing...

So have been working on a few moves lately and thought I just had super sore chest muscles, but noticed it's kinda isolated in one spot. Touched it today, almost blacked out from pain, and realized I should probably get it looked at. It's hurt to breathe for almost a week now, and I sneezed the other day and thought I was gonna die.

Went to the doctor, and he's like "yup, you broke a rib." After listening to my breathing, he determined that I'm barely using my right lung. Which explained why I've been so facking tired lately- I'm not breathing.

As far as I can tell, I did it by messing up during a stage show and ramming my elbow into my chest.

So no pole work for at least two weeks- waiting on xray results to find out how bad it is and if I've damaged my lung at all.

Also prescribed codeine... woo. Funny though, I'm supposed to take 2 tablets twice a day, for 10 days. So 40 tablets. But they gave me 120. Do they want people to start abusing it?

Anybody done something similar? (broke a rib, not abused codeine)

A girl friend of mine out here did something very similar. You should realllllly baby it as much as you can.. she didn't have that luxury and ended up re-injuring it. It's almost 4 months later, and hers is only now starting to feel better.

Thanks mediocrity... definitely want this to heal as soon as possible and properly.

Yeah trying to be super careful. No stage for me for a few weeks, and I'm staying away from the gym, just going for long walks.

The drugs are doing wonders. The doctor said it's important to take them, less for the pain and more so I'm breathing correctly.

I did this when I first started dancing. Proper painful! And really annoying, because I was trying to lose weight for dancing and I couldn't do hardly ANY exercise!I had to stop, and I began exercising again too soon, and it went again
My advice, take it really really easy and it will heal, if you think it's just about ready to be 'used' again, wait longer!Let it heal properly before doing ANYTHING that may likely aggravate the area.

The only REALLY shitty thing about being a dancer is the fact that there is no health care insurance, no benefuts....ugh, and all the money we make for the club owners....

Sorry for bitching, hope you feel better soon!

Thankfully I'm Canadian, so getting it looked at + x-rayed is covered by the government.

Pills were $21.88, so I'm fortunately not out much.

yeah, when i was 18, that headstand move was really popular. i came crashing down onto my chest. the next day, woke up, felt like i had been stomped by a troupe of circus clowns.

now, i'm older and don't believe in stage work. all is well. take care of yourself and feel better. also, drink lots of water so the opiates don't fuck with your bladder.
