Question What is your job title/description?

    Hello, all

I will be checking out some apartments with my future cam/best friend, and I'm wondering what I'll be putting as my occupation. Have any of you had to apply for jobs or apartments or something and decided to be honest about your past or present position in the camming area?

I've seen some "web cam model", "model", "entertainer", etc. I'm really thinking about what I want to put.

There may be a thread on this... Sorry if there is - I'm still lost!

One of my cam friends just applied for an apartment this past week actually and was approved. She will be moving in on the 5th The application didn't actually ask what her specific occupation was, but it did ask for the name of the company. She answered truthfully with telling them Streamate. I doubt that they really care the occupation as long as you have the pay stubs to prove you have steady income. In her case the guy did ask her what she did for them and she answered. He actually thought that it was cool. Her and I really aren't much into hiding our occupations anyhow. I figure it will all come out eventually. This way if she gets a noise complaint at least they know why

I don't think I would normally have told anyone, not until I got good anyway. It was actually my friend of about 10 years who told me she was going to do it. Guess I lucked out with that, because it will be nice having someone to talk to. Then again, this forum has been AMAZING for information and also has great girls to talk to. If anyone needs a friend, I'll be starting camming soon and always love making new friends

Whatever it is on your taxes since you'll need to show your tax return for proof of income because you're self-employed.

I have Entertainer currently, but I wish I wouldn't have put that because it causes them to ask too many questions. From now on on my taxes I'm going to put Consultant because it sounds more professional & reliable, and I can manipulate it any way I'd like. Artist is also a good one, but as with entertainer, it doesn't sound that professional or as vague as I'd like. But if you've claimed all your income, are making a decent amount, and have all your check stubs or Payoneer statements to back it all up, you should have no problems with whatever you put. But make sure, again, it matches what you put on your tax forms.

I'm currently apartment-hunting, and what I put depends hugely on the vibe that I get from the landlord or property manager that shows me around. It also depends on what the application asks for!

Some places don't care, they just run a credit check and contact references (I love these people). If you say that you are self-employed and they start asking about tax returns, proof of income etc, then you would say whatever it says on your taxes. If I am chatting away with the person showing the place, and they seem relaxed, then I will tell them.

My written answer can be any of the following: "Webcam Model" "Online Modelling" "Online Sales" "Online Sales and Affiliate Marketing" "Online sales, live web chat and associated affiliate marketing" "Run an Online Business" "Self Employed" or any variation or combination of the above.
I take cash, debit or credit. I just don't take shit.

I wouldn't say self-employed. I'd tell a landlord independent contractor. As we aren't technically employed by anyone. I ran into a landlord while apartment-hunting who wanted to see my business license (!!) before anything else was done and that it was a requirement of the complex. I played an awkward twenty questions pulling a ton of answers out of my ass. UGH. Didn't foresee that.

And, about being honest about occupation. Telling someone you're in the adult industry can def. backfire - you could wind up with a gossipy landlord/management who spreads it around the complex, then you end up with weirdos, perverts and maybe even some peeping toms or god knows who-else.

Just because there is a possibility of getting out'ed in the future doesn't mean we should exactly flaunt it. But if you are aware of the possible risks of being open and honest about what you do then go for it. Just be safe.

Yeesh! That sucks - I have never run into that before, but I may well take your advice and start saying "contractor". I'm always honest about the job because I just don't believe in lying - but bear in mind (I should have written this in my last post) that you have to say something that is true. Even if it is a really fancy shmancy way of saying "I fuck myself online for money" (like live web chat and associated affiliate marketing) or a really evasive term (like independent contractor), it has to be accurate, just in case you run into legal issues with the landlords. If you have lied on your lease, it can invalidate that lease, and then you are left without a leg to stand on. So, tempting as it may be to make something else up entirely, its not worth it.

Also - and this is just my personal opinion - if a landlord seems really nosy, then I don't want to rent from them. I am so possesive of my privacy, and I want NO friendship or casual relationship with my landlords - professional only. If they start poking around in your business before you've even rented the place, just imagine what they will be like after!!! *shudder

"Self employed" or "Independent Contractor". I actually just moved into a new apartment, but this is not my first go at this, I have been camming for 4 years so I have done this before. They don't need specifics and if they ask I say I do "online customer service". All they care about is the money. They needed to see two recent pay stubs, or bank statements. Since I work for more than one site, I sent them bank statements. They just look at the deposits for the period.

I was approved based on my income. End of story. You don't need to tell people your personal business. A lot of people are independent contractors, so it's not like they are automatically going to think, "wow they must be doing some porn!"...you know?

All they care about is your rental history, that you have no prior evictions, and that your not a hardnened criminal/pedophile. If you know your good on that, then everything else should be fine.

    They just want you to:

I agree with Hayden. There is no reason to disclose that you are in the adult industry in a professional setting like this.

This industry is still very much taboo and disclosing our profession in this sort of context is a) unecessary and b) invites unfair criticism/creepers.

We can put consultants instead of independent artists/writers/performers? I haven't filed my taxes for 2011 just yet, and if so, that is SWEET.
