Anyone have this?
http://www.blackmagic-design.com/pro...ultrastudio3d/
Apparently it is double the speed of USB 3.0 and is able to convert analog signal (I would need something like this for my Sony EviD100). However it seems a bit on the pricey side....$1000!! And I can't seem to find any used on ebay
.
Its not something I could afford today (not even something I could afford to buy next month) even though I do have the money on me...I just think my $1000 could be better saved.
I invest a lot in my technology and this definitely seems like to would bring me a clearer and faster speed. I must say I am tempted to purchase one, but I just can't justify the cost right now.
Oh and I run both a mac and a PC with awesome specs. However I prefer to use my mac as the HD encoder on SM keeps crashing on my PC no matter what I do.

BlackMagic makes an array of 'very upscale' video capture / editing products using 'professional grade' SDI video technology. See
The UltraStudio model you linked is their 'flagship' ... which has 3D capability. Which stated another way means the ability to simultaneously capture and transmit TWO broadcast quality video streams ( from a 3D camera's twin lenses ) at the same time. Awesome, but nothing that any webcam host currently supports.
BlackMagic has a different model - the SDI - that uses the same technology, has almost the same performance, but captures and transmits a single broadcast quality video stream, for about $400
Also, to match up with the capabilities of the BlackMagic units, you're going to need a camera with an SDI-HD output. The Sony D100 camera is not compatible. If price is no object, you'll probably be looking for something like this instead ... ... which has a price tag in the $4,000 ballpark.
Of course there are some new cameras / camcorders out there with SDI-HD outputs that now sell for 1/10th of that amount.

Re: Anyone have this?
Honestly that seems way way overkill! I could be wrong, but I don't think on a computer monitor that extra quality is going to be noticed. Transmitting in HD on a good quality webcam is likely more than enough detail for guys to wank to and I'm afraid that anything more than that will be lost on them

Agree on overkill, I'm not even sure what that is, you're talking about, but I say this because *even* USB 3.0 is more hype than actual necessity (IMO)
When I bought my PC I specifically wanted USB 3.0 what turns out is that C910 doesn't even support USB 3.0
What makes it ironic is that my C910 plugged in a USB 2.0 port gives a crystal clear video with seamlessly high frame rate so that it's actually possible to make out every eyebrow hair (which is kinda scary)
The real problems start when you want that seamlessly clear video you see in the preview actually recorded on your HDD (thank god for Logitech's software because all the other software keeps crapping out on me) or when you want to broadcast that video down your internet cables in which case it will have to be compressed/degraded.
My point is that you can get a ridiculously hi-res video even with USB 2.0 the real bottlenecks are going to be a) your hard drive b) your connection.
(Personally what I've been thinking about is do guys even want to be able to see every eyebrow hair and every defect on my face? After all this is a fantasy and sometimes I'm thinking maybe the washed out old-school webcams that make your skin look silky smooth even when you have razor burn are actually better for delivering the fantasy?)
