some make a lot without even really being nude..
I'm ok with being nude and sexual on cam. Plus I can do this job from home, rather than going to photoshoots. This is a BIG perk for me.
i was a model in the alt genre. its more something you do as a hobby and becuase you love it, dont expect to make a living at it. theres always going to be a bunch of girls hotter then you no matter how hot you are.

I thought about it I even seeked it out there is a Ford agency in my city went there and they were like well I am too short and blah blah. and southern model was like my pics are nice but too bad they were for porn, regular model has too many damn expectations.

When I was a young teenager and through my early 20's I got approached alot about mainstream modelling. My mom was COMPLETELY against it and I didn't really have alot of interest in that kinda thang either- my interests lay totally elsewhere. Now, even if I wanted to (and I don't), I'm way too fucking old- mainstream models often top out at the age I am now (unless they've achieved household name status)
I gotta say, I honestly don't think there's alot of similarity between what we do and mainstream modelling...here we're responsible for our own careers, and we don't rely upon an outside entity to 'hire' us, assess us as a valuable asset, etc. Most importantly, we're not as constrained by normative standards of 'beauty' as the advertising industry defines them. Success in mainstream modelling has alot to do with how others appraise our talents/qualifications, whereas we decide how/when/what types of work we want to do. We have more responsibility for our own careers, in that most of us don't have agents, but we also have alot more freedom to define ourselves and the image that we present to the world. I like having that control
I'll also add that, beyond the lower income that goes along with most mainstream modelling (again, unless one is a 'stah') compared to adult work, mainstream modelling seems like it has a HUGE potential to be a total mind-fuck. You're compared against an impossible standard of beauty and I can see how easy it would be to end up with a really warped body image and sense of self. It's kinda ironic that in that sense, 'adult' work, with it's pro-secondary-sex-characteristics stance, is probably a much healthier choice than mainstream.

In general, you won't make any money from it. That's why I wouldn't do it. The only way you can make money from it is if you fuck your way to the top because there's so much competition (even Terry Richardson said this is true) or come from an extremely affluent background and network with your peers, who are the children of people in various entertainment fields. And even if you have those covered, you have to accepted by a top agency in LA or NY (London or Paris if you're in Europe) and then relocate there depending on your chosen field (LA for lingerie/print/beauty and NY for runway/advertising).
So I'd say not worth it IMO unless its the most important hobby/interest to you. I'd rather spend that same effort into my business. You can do it for the pretty pictures, but if you're going to do that, you might as well do a full on nude shoot and use it to promote your business.
And I love being nude. I wouldn't do this job if I didn't love being nude since that's the first requirement. Even if I had the option of being a mainstream model or a nude model for the same pay, I'd still choose nude model. I grew up loving Penthouse, Hustler, Cheri, all those magazines.

Yep, I was signed as a model as a child and still do shoots now just for fun. There really isn't any money in it. Like promotions and acting, the odd big money job comes along (and I mean BIG money!), but they are so few and far between as to not work out very much in the long run. It's perfectly possible to make it big in modelling without sleeping your way anywhere, but you must have the right look at the right time, and you must be seen by the right people. 99.9% of people just don't have what it takes to be a successful model even though everybody *thinks* they do, lol. I can highly recommend doing it just for fun though, especially to get some good TFP fetish, boudoir, or mild glamour shots to use for promo.
Yeah I never got into it, but was always told I could model growing up because of my height and because I am thin. My mom tried to get into modeling as well when she was younger. I did boudoir shots for fun, and paid for my own shoot. It was expensive, but I think I came out awesome in the pics. I think I am pretty, but I have a few cosmetic flaws in my opinion that have held me from going into it. Not to mention posing in all sorts of awkward positions all day long gets sorta tiring. If I could wish to be any model I would love to be a Victoria Secret model. But aint gonna happen. For now I will just admire from a far...lol![]()

I always wanted to, but now I would be considered a plus size model. I think the cut off is size 6 or 8 to be a regular model. Kinda nuts when you look at stats on the average sizes of most women. I kinda want to be a Victoria's Secret model...lol. I have the boobs for it. Anyway. I think waht I do now, webcam and Southern Charms suits me and what I want now.

Haha no. It's amazing what heavy makeup and camera angles will do. I don't look this good in real life.

I've been a nude/fetish/adult model for going on 7 years now. Before that I tried to be a fashion/commercial model. I got a book done and went around to agencies. I'm too short, too old and too fat.
A fashion model in the mainstream market must be under 18, over 5'9" and under 110 lbs. Yes, all those girls you see in Vogue are under 18. If they're 19 they're "old".
A commercial model, people who do stuff like Target and are characters in ads like doctors or moms or teachers, can be any age but is ideally under 25 and must be 5"7" or above. If you have a unique or interesting look you may find work as a character model, like a Santa Claus or whatever, but most of the work is for attractive people who look "real" and thin. At 125 lbs I was told I was too heavy, especially since I was "short", barely clocking in at 5'7". I was told to come back when I hit 25 or 30 and had a "young mom" look. I came back at 29 and was told that I was too old for young mom but too young for mom of school age kids. They suggested I get botox and a boob job "Or a really good bra" if I wanted to try for young mom again.
A plus size model must be a standard fashion model build. She must simply look like a fashion model has gotten filled out. East and West coasts have different standards, but it's curvy, flatish tummy, busty and tall with a beautiful face. East coast I believe is size 12-14 and west coast is 14-16, but I don't exactly remember.
A commercial model will rarely make enough to pay the bills. You make a lot when you work (I got a gig that flew me to Costa Rica and paid me 1K) but you won't work too often. A similar thing can be said of models in this industry. Unless you do LA-style porn you won't make a ton ton of money but you'll get something. You make a lot (not nearly as much as fashion models) but you don't work too often. Since there are only agents for porn porn, if you're trying to do just nudes and fetish you'll have to find your own work and that'll take up most of your time. Once you build a brand though, you can command more for your time (not MUCH more, but more) and you can start doing deals where you get more control over your content and make passive income. Doing any kind of modeling, "regular" or adult industry will require either living in a major city or traveling a fuck ton. I traveled nearly every day for 4 years before I burnt myself out.

Oh, and if you think cam guys are ruthless you haven't spoken to a fashion agency. I've had talent scouts laugh in my face before. Most often if there's more than one scout they'll talk about you like you're not there.
"Here's number 29. *name* What do we think?"
They glance you over indifferently
"Her skin is really bad"
"She's wholesome and I like her hair but she's just lacking that something."
"Brunettes were very last season."
"Oh yes, I agree about the skin...Smile sweetie? Yes and her teeth aren't good either."
"Well do you think if she lost some weight?"
"Maybe, but it would have to be about 30 lbs."
"No no, I think we're done here."
and they hand your portfolio back to you and the assistant motions you out the door.
No. I'm not interested in the competition, especially what for me would be such a...superficial pursuit. I think it's a legitimate career for others who enjoy it, but I could never interest myself into trying to fit into commercial standards of beauty (and even if I tried, I would fail, for a number of reasons, one being that I'm short). That's the beauty of camming or doing fetish videos, no matter what you look like you will be beautiful/sexy in *somebodies* eyes, you can do what feels sexy to you and chances are somebody else will like it too.
I'm considering doing nude/fetish modeling on the side. xP
I dont see myself ever getting into mainstream modeling;
Too much pressure to look a certain way, and i've already had my bout with eating disorders,
i'd prefer not to relapse,
and i'm only 5'5 so most modeling places wouldnt even consider me.

True for the most part. And even more true where nude modeling is concerned. The only way you can make money from it is if you fuck your way to the top because there's so much competition (even Terry Richardson said this is true) or come from an extremely affluent background and network with your peers
That's not to say that you can't still earn an occasional paycheck even if you refuse the 'invitations' of the editor. But in terms of money earned and career advancement, time spent 'just modeling' won't pay very well.

I'm too short and too chubby for mainstream modeling. I don't really want someone telling me I need to lose weight and stuff either. I'm happy at my size and don't need to fit the "mainstream modeling" criteria so much. And I'm too short and not big enough for plus size modeling soooo it doesn't really work out. In amateur porn and camming, I can just be me!

I was thinking about this the other day.. but if you`re doing TFP, can you sell those photos online?
A friend of mine does fashion shows and promo events and things like that.. but I would be afraid to use my real name and have some creeper connect me with my online stuff..

I do real modeling; I've done catalogs and things for companies like dillards, bridal shows, ring card girl events, etc. I do a lot of promotions also; I don't do as much now but I will once the Summer rolls around again.

I always laugh when people say "real" modeling. My husband is a photographer and he shoots nude/topless models and used to run one of the biggest solo model cash programs on the internet from 2004-2009.... and people always said that the girls were not "real models". Okay really? Well they make more than most "real models" out there! My modeling website alone made a take home cut of $2000/week on average but noooooo no matter what I was NOT a "real model". LMFAO.
I have a niece who wants to do "real modeling" as a career. She's super pretty, but she's 5'2" and naive 18 year old. There's no talking to her about the REAL WORLD of "real modeling" for average people.... average people being anyone not listed in GlamourRouge's post above! I suggested topless modeling to her (because I'm SUCH a good influence lol) and she insisted she wanted to be a "real model". SMH.
*Not directing this at you, Hilary, just ranting. I don't imagine you meant it like other people do when they say it!![]()

I've met a few models... going on dates with the men who decide whether or not they will get any jobs. They didn't look very happy.
Yes, I'm real.
My mother was a 'real' model here in the UK... now middle aged, with serious weight issues, self esteem issues and a husband (my father) who left for a younger model (quite literally). I don't know any ladies in the sex industry with such huge self esteem issues. I'm sure they exist.... But compared to my mum and her crazy friends my sex work friends have their heads screwed on right!

I'd rather be myself than some corporate industry subjective standard of beauty. I find the thought much more demeaning than sex work. A cashier is a slave to wal-mart, a model a slave to chanel. My beauty is very alternative and creepy! Yeah goth!

No thanks. I've had my fill of anorexia for one lifetime.
Besides, I like my boobs![]()
