Subscribing to this... I want it but everyone seems to either love ot or hate it. Some friends tell me about no periods, no weight gain, no mood swings - Contraceptive bliss!
The others tell me about non stop 3 month periods and headaches. Gah.
Can't wait to see some replies.

I'm waiting for replies too. I've been really interested in it. Also, has anyone gotten the implanon from Planned Parenthood? I told my mom I might, and she told me she doesn't think I should trust them.

I posted about it before. I have it. Overall I do recommend it. I'll add more in a bit.

I have not experienced weight gain, mood swings, etc. I still get bloated around my "period" and I have the parenthesis there because its so fucking random. Lately I haven't been working out regularly so I've been spotting for a couple days, several days apart. If you work out regularly however, it is not a problem and my periods were regular. When I was working out 5+ days a week (and that means running 2+miles a day and weights) I would not get a period at all, which I kinda don't mind.
It lasts three years. I've had it for almost 2. I had unprotected sex for the first 7 months I had it in and never got pregnant...
ANTIBIOTICS won't fuck with your BC.... Yeaaaah
When I had it put in I got a local anesthetic (shot) on my arm, once I was good and numb the doctor made a small incision and basically rammed the Implanon in there. If I did not have the shot it would have hurt terribly but I just felt the pressure. I was actually the first patient to get the Implanon in that town (small town in ND). So anyways it didn't hurt at all getting it put in, but the whole inside of my arm was totally black and blue for about 10 days afterward.
The incision has left a scar that is very tiny and only visible under good lighting and if you're looking for it.
I think this is great for a person who forgets to take a daily pill, or hates sticking your fingers in your vag to put stuff in/take stuff out, or if you're in a monogamous relationship and don't normally use condoms, or if you're a slut like me and use condoms but already have a kid and know there is no way in hell you can take any chances whatsoever to have another child for the next 10 years.
So to sum it all up its great, it'd be perfect if it didn't fuck with my period.
I forgot to add something. You cannot see the Implanon in there, but you can certainly feel it. I can even grab the edges and kinda bend it so it is very visible through the skin.

You may wanna consider long-term side effects. And the fact that Planned Parenthood's founder said her goal was to inhibit the fertility of the lower classes and the unfit. Those intentions may not make women's long-term health a priority. http://gerardnadal.com/2010/01/05/sa...lower-classes/

My friend and co-worker Kels got a blood clot in her eye and gave up on Implanon. She had it taken out. But she's in the minority of users who had a bad reaction.
Some of you gals are so funny. Information is information.

The company itself it's legit, but several of their workers aren't; they like to lie about what contraception do and doesn't, but again, that's not in all PP centers.
To the OP: Implanon is progesterone only, just like the shot, the mini pill and mirena. That's why is such a big hit or miss. How about the paragard. Is a non hormonal IUD. It last longer than the implanon and the mirena, but it can make your period heavier.

^So I guess the implanon or the mini pill are your best options!

I have had implanon for 2 years, so I have to get it replaced in less than a year now. Its good for 3 years.
Insertion was easy, they gave me a lidocaine shot in my OBGYN's office and then inserted it. The lidocaine burned but I didn't feel anything else after that. The area was tender for a couple days. It's on my inner left arm.
Ive taken lots of medications and tons of different antibiotics in the last 2 years and have had no pregnancies or anything.
I highly recommend it. I'm going to be getting pregnant next year, and since mine expires next year I don't think I'll have it replaced until after I have my second child.
If you are willing to do for one year what other's won't, you can spend a lifetime doing what other's cant.

I know I could have created a new thread for this, but I didn't really see a point. I saw some really good reviews for this fertility monitor. It's called Lady-Comp Fertility Monitor, and it has almost perfect reviews. I can't take birth control with hormones due to heredity reasons, and birth control with hormones aren't safe in the long run, anyway. I think this is a safer alternative, and as long as you use it right, it seems pretty accurate.

Bumping this thread, I got the Implanon inserted today. Didn't really hurt at all, pretty quick and got it at PP...kinda was weird to watch lol, but I couldn't look away....anyone else have any reviews? I'll see how it goes for a month or two and post again!

Thanks for the thread bump!
I am changing my BC. The mirena is messing up sex and makes me bleed and cramp lately. Doc suggested Implanon, since I am on long-term antibiotics.

Confuscius say: "Man who pull bra stap get bust in face"
I am on implanon and have had a period for 3 weeks straight, started out light and now its heavy >.<
I go to the doctor tomorrow, so they can prescribe something to stop my period...cause I literally can't take this bleeding everyday stuff. its making me sick, tired, dizzy...last month i didnt have a period at all this month im def. making up for it

I'm on it too, just stopped bleeding after 31/2 months.
I got implanon the beginning of march....and the first two weeks i started to spot...no big deal....right?
well the I became completely suicidal later that month, and I didnt know what to do.I think it was a mixture of having rhinoplasty...(loved my nose by the way...) just the fact that I could not worked...really started to freak me out and all my emotions were going batshit crazy.
April was better. I went back to work and was glad to make money again...this time no period..COOL! except i took like a million pregger tests to see what was up...
the beginning of may..I would say may 6th...or something I started my period from hell. 3 weeks long...miserable.. I have videos to make, i have to work...but everyday i kept bleeding more and more....so i just got naked on cam..and did oil shows...and hoola hooped...and hoping to god I didnt bleed down my leg
I finally said enough of it cause by week three i was losing so much blood, i should have probably died or something.
They did a pregger test, check my iron levels...i was sleeping 3 days straight cause i could not even function too much. just kinda laid around...
finally the doctor had to do an exam, and i was like oh yay.... she's going to see a murder scene down there. She said the blood was super bright red.
and I had a yeast infection from all the moisture down there. so she gave me a pill for it, and i was told to take some ibuprofen. I took 3 at each meal til i stopped bleeding
thankfully it only took a day for me to stop. So far im not bleeding but still kinda unsure if i am done bleeding.
The doctor said that since the implant in my arm is releasing hormones throughout my whole body and just not around my uterus, like and IUD or nuva ring.
I can't take the pill because im sensitive to estrogen (could cause me to stroke due to headaches and migraines) so the pill is out of the question and the mini pill... you have to be very diligent when taking it or your chance of being preggers is higher...and well i forget a lot, so again out of the question.
Plan B is mirena or the copper IUD.
I have honestly never felt so out of control with my body before. The emotional rollercoaster is driving me up a wall...im so snappy towards people... and i need to be careful what i say to people cause i dont want to be rude, because its not me....just lately i feel kinda psychotic
so i am probably getting it removed but i am hoping within time my body will get use to it.. maybe im wrong.

yeah, i cannot do birth control..the cramping, spotting, emotional rollercoasters, headaches, nausea..not worth it! i hate it. for some women im sure it works out, but not for this one. im making my boyfriend get the male birth control the minute it comes out haha. seriously though

Sorry you are going through all of this ginger![]()

I have the Mirena and I love it! The thing about most of these types of BC is that when you research online, people usually post if they either LOVED it and had zero side effects or HATED it and it was terrible. I had some side effects, so here is my experience with Mirena:
I decided to get it because I originally wanted the copper IUD since it has no hormones but then the doctor told me that I would get heavier periods, that this happens for nearly EVERYONE and I already had heavy periods (one of the reasons I take birth control - to reduce this) so I decided to go with Mirena. The dose of hormones in Mirena is so low you can actually breast feed while having it! Which put me at ease because I am trying to avoid hormones as much as I can.
Insertion: The insertion hurt a bit, like a menstrual cramp for a few seconds, not unbearable, but it was slightly painful. Afterwards I felt like I had cramps for a few days.
Once it was in, I got some spotting for maybe 2 weeks, this was very light. After that for the next few months I got spotting once per month for maybe 4-5 days, kind of like a regular period just super light. I still have this although it has been gradually reducing (I have had it for 1 year now). A lot of people their period just goes away completely but not for me yet.
I would say try it, you don't have much to lose and with all of these birth control options they all affect people in different ways, but I have overall had a good experience with Mirena and when it's time to take it out I will get another one inserted, probably until I'm in Menopause (I'm never having children).
Hope you feel better and that this info helps! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions![]()

Are these progesterone only methods better than the estrongen/progesterone blends. I have been on Apri which is a blend and I became extremely depressed and lost my sex drive.
I have also been on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo and that made me feel depressed and sometimes just out of it completly like I was losing my mind. When I'm not on the pill now I feel happy and normal.
What should I do now?
