I wrote this for my blog but thought I would share it here too.
I have been meaning to write a review of this facial treatments for the past week, Concha de Perlop I call it a diamond in the rough because of a combination of price, lack of advertising, and because it does exactly what it claims. In the beauty product industry, this is very rare. Advertising claims are unregulated so often times the products make lofty promises that they cannot live up to and consumers are often disappointed. Both products will be found in the Latin American section of beauty products in Target or Wal-Mart, or online at Amazon.com. This is sold as a bleaching cream and deep cleaner of pores. It caught my attention because there is no hydroquinone in it, the #1 active ingredient in most bleaching creams. Hydroquinone is very irritating to the skin, intolerable to some, and considered toxic by many naturalists. Concha Nacar de Perlop instead uses Mother of Pearl/Oyster Shell Powder to fade light scars left from blemishes and to give an overall more even tone.
It is applied to the face and has the consistency of a mask, with tiny beads of the oyster shell in it. It does not dry but stays in a paste like form, left on the skin for 30-60 minutes, then washed off afterwards with cold water. Immediately I could tell my pores were smaller and over all my skin looked tighter, the way it would after you wash off a mud mask. Within one week my blemish scars were fading (I have two I’m working on). This is incredible because in the past I’ve used Obagi Nu Derm’s Clear (4% hydroquinone, available only through a dermatologist) for months with no results. Now a $5 product from Wal-Mart is blasting Obagi’s $60 product out of the water.
I am so excited by this product and use it every day, followed by a toner of ½ water, ½ Apple Cidar Vinegar, and then Olay Regenerist Daily Regenerating Serum with UV protection. Every other night after I do my derma-rolling using a 1.0 mm dermaroller I also use retin-A.
